Fraudulent Business - Beware!
I am warning everyone about Urban Book Publishers (now rebranded as New York Publication), who have defrauded me out of $3,100. Last year, I signed a contract trusting they would publish and market my book. After several months of delays and countless false promises, nothing was delivered.

I took the matter to small claims court in New York, which issued a summons. However, their listed address was incorrect, and further investigation revealed that they have changed their website name. Their new site masks their fraudulent activities under a different name.

The company's contact numbers are disconnected, and attempts to reach them have been futile. Additionally, their BBB rating reveals their unethical practices and numerous fraud allegations.

Please stay away from Urban Book Publishers/New York Publication. They are scammers who will manipulate you to steal your money.

It's a scam. Please do not send them any money!

Well...I got the run around a lot. When they call you they have a recording playing like they are in an office with a LOT of stuff going on. They return for your edit the wrong older edits. Their people pester you about a package deal. They give you a fake letter from Barnes and Noble saying they want copies of your book. They try to pressure you! They say for X amount of dollars we can PROMISE sales of that certain amount of books! I didn't fall for that! I have two books with them I paid $3oo for each. They made nice looking covers. Edits were fine. Took a long time. Here is the issue! One of my books came out last October. They did Amazon only! The contract was for other places as well! When ever I mention those other places they say they will look into it! They never do! This October will be a year and that contract is not completed! I HAD THEM DO A SECOND BOOK AND I AM GETTING THE RUN AROUND FOR A SECOND TIME! The second is in Kindle and NOT the soft and hard! I GUESS I will have to do the rest myself! Better think twice!

Please do not give them any $$. We paid for the book to be published and so far nothing. They did some editing but it was bad and the authors have to do most work themselves. Communication is poor and we are waiting weeks for a response from Malcolm who scheduled appointments with us and failed to connect with us. Don't pay anything until you see some results.

Urban Book Publishers promises to format books for on-demand printing (paperback) and e-books. I had to guide them through the process of formatting a print version of the book. No one on the staff knew that books have headers and page numbers, that chapters don't begin in the middle of the previous chapter, that the text needs to line up on facing pages. Regarding e-books, no one on the staff knew how to format an e-book. The person in charge of my book project said UBP "doesn't proofread or review their work before sending it out." Apparently, they rely on the client to tell them what's wrong with the formatting. If the client doesn't know, then the final product UBP produces will be below market standards. Save yourself money and frustration. Find a different publisher. I've filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

Urban Book Publishers were patient with me, as I'm new to the children's book world. I'll definitely work with them again because they made everything easy to understand for me. It was a fun learning experience.

They work with India People and you have to be careful. They made a deal with a company in the UK, and never allowed me to meet the UK Team called Waterstones. They told me that I had to pay shipping and printing before the contract was complete. If they had money and they were doing this contract, they should have paid it upfront. They wanted me to pay for everything and told me that I would get compensated in 60 days. The whole situation was sketchy, so please do not give them money until they do their job.
