It was absolutely appalling. We expected to see animals but managed to see a few. Not what I remembered from years ago. No gorilla, no show. Most of the animals which isn't their fault were hiding... Mehr ansehen

Totally agree with previous review
Totally agree with previous review. Expensive...no animals to speak of....run down and closed buildings....they say you can visit free for 12 months....why would you want to....
We visited Twycross zoo today and found…
We visited Twycross zoo today and found it to be a bit of an eye opener. Alot of the enclosures and exhibits were either empty or closed and some blocked off with no animals in them. We found that some animals looked forgotten about a Lizard in particular needed fresh food and water. The gruffalo area has pretty much taken up some of the zoo and taken over alot of the land where past enclosures and exhibits were and it was quite disappointing as its taken the zoo out of the zoo! Leopards and tigers were pacing up and down in their enclosures as they were stressed and you could see that they had worn paths where they constantly paced and had no engagement and enrichment provided, same with the monkeys, birds and apes. What happened to the rest of the monkeys, seals and other animals? We're sure there was more back when I last visited! The Ferno coffee kiosk was expensive and the staff were rude and didn't want to even be there. The other cafes were expensive and crowded. What broke my heart was knowing that most of what made Twycross zoo was pretty much lost. I remember it being an wonderful zoo with so much more !
Went today with 3 grandkids
Went today with 3 grandkids, saw a few miserable monkeys, couldn’t see the tiger, couldn’t get anywhere near the giraffes unless you pay extra to feed it a few branches. Very disappointed kids. Enclosures were a disgrace, dirty. Small. Overgrown. Play area £7.50 for 1 hour play. Total rip. Best part was when the tiger mascot came out at the end. Wouldn’t recommend this zoo & wont be going again. Awful experience. Not good value for money. Wish we’d gone elsewhere :(
Lovely place to visit with the kids
Lovely place to visit with the kids. Nice and clean with lots of areas for them to run around. The play park and splash pad are a bonus too.
What a disappointment. Nearly all monkeys. One very sad looking orangutan. Saw one rhino, 2 giraffes, 1 tiger and a few other animals . The penguins looked tatty and dirty. £25!!!!!
What a disappointment.

What a sad and depressing zoo
What a sad and depressing zoo, little to no animals. Most cages appeared to be empty, the entire place was extremely run down and shabby, I think they must have also sacked the gardener as there were tall weeds everywhere, it was a very very expensive day which was definitely not worth the money, all of the animals should be removed and relocated to better environments, I would not recommend this Zoo to anyone!
Twycross zoo, not the best
The zoo was if anything really busy, having to queue into the car park. I understand this is probably because of the buy one ticket go for the rest of the year deal, when going to look at the animals it was extremely crowded especially the chimpanzees and giraffes.
Because of the insane amount of people there was little to no parking available ultimately leading to people blocking others cars in, and people parking on the grass verges.
Twycross seems to have an awful amount of monkeys and seemed to “care” more for them, giving their monkeys elaborate cages; I saw this especially with the chimpanzee and orangutan’s. Compared to the other animals such as the lamas, who in which cages where much less “fancy” they had little to no logs or drift wood to fill their cages, paint on the walls was falling off and it overall looked quite empty.
The ratio of monkeys to other animals was very uneven, as it seemed nearly 90% of the animals were monkeys.as I went round I only saw 2 giraffes 1 rhino 1 snow Lepord 1 tiger ( I understand some could have been inside too).
Finally the prices, the soft play was £7.50 for an HOUR! In a tiny soft play filled with kids.
The gift shop was absolutely filled to the brim, I barely managed to stay with my children.
The prices where quite high, but yes I know it’s a zoo: 6 pound for a tiny teddy, £34 for a 20 cm grufflo, and £16 for a soft plushy snake.
We did find some enjoyment in the many different monkeys and other animals, the gruffalo trail was OK I suppose, zoos good for kids but quite poor.
False advertisement!
Bought last year a day pass that allowed my family to go anytime in the year (as advertised when I booked the pass), when I go to book any day or time that the website offers you as free to go, each transaction no matter the day or the time throws an error 401 and doesn't book anything.
I am pretty sure that if you pay for the ticket the transaction will be successful.
False advertisement to get you to buy tickets.
Very very poor
Very, very poor and expensive. Next to no animals to see. just lots of empty cages. Totally underwhelming, not going back until vast improvements take place and price falls dramatically. One star is an over rating.
Put some animals in for people to see
Put some animals in for people to see. I paid a lot of money for nothing and will never go again. Shameful when they take your money and give you nothing back, waste of a day.
DONT GO.
I'm totally devastated with Twycross..
I'm totally devastated with Twycross... this was the zoo of my childhood. I took my grandaughter on sat 11th may 2024 for her third birthday. I think she got to see a handful of animals, nothing in enclosures as all were having work done. It's dirty and the animals look extremely unhappy! card payments only...no cash..so she was unable to spend her own pennies which of course caused a meltdown in the middle of the shop!! £27 a ticket £7.50 for soft play...DONT GO!!!!
Just got back today from the zoo
Just got back today from the zoo. Got to say how amazing this place is and the staff and attractions are an easy 10 out of 10 ! Big thank you to Fin who should have his own YouTube Chanel keeping us all engaged into learning about these amazing animals. The most passionate zoo keeper I have ever met. I’m not sure why the reviews are so poor. Totally disagree, we saw
a lot of amazing animals and the food was nice. Not cheap but no more than I would expect. Windows where being cleaned as they prepared the food for the animals. Gruffalo trail was closed as we know it would be as we checked the website. This is a zoo not a safari park, hence the number of animals per enclosures. My dad need an electric scooter and we needed a stroller for our 3 year old. The staff providing these where great and very approachable
wants a good clean
Looked forward to going so i could test a new camera.
1 tiger 1 rhino 1 goriila a few meercat 2 giraffe 3 giant tortoise and an assortment of apes. The first area you come to was shut but no mention of this on their web site. Considering how big the grounds are i expected to have seen more. The glass panels on all the viewing areas looked like they had not been cleaned for years. Had 2 tickets .... how can they justify the entry fee.
Update ... made my thread before reading what orhers said , after reading what others have said i think this place should be shut down
Keeper for the day experience…
Had a great day at Twycross with a 'Keeper For The Day' experience . Saw 'behind the scenes' with the Rhinos ,Zebra, Giraffes , Great Apes and others. All the Keepers were very welcoming and knowledgeable and seemed happy to share their experiences. Well worth it !
Not the best right now
Second visit to twycross, this time the weather was kinder unfortunately it was the only good thing. So many no shows on the animal front, the interactive gruffalo trail was mainly not working, only to be topped by the inedible food at the coffee shop. My recommendation take a picnic! Could be a great day out with a little tlc
Still underwhelming
Last visited two years ago and overall impression then was underwhelming. Even moreso this time. A lot of humans but not many animals! One tiger but no bears, elephants or lions. I realise a balance has to be struck between keeping animals in captivity, conservation and 'entertainment' but this zoo no longer delivers on any level. Can't understand why it still seems so popular. Won't be going again.
Disappointed
Disappointed , main reason for the visit was the Gruffalo trail, unfortunately most of the interactive stations were broken and not recently most had the buttons removed and some the stations were actually loose and dangerous.
Come on Twycross you are actively pushing this experience on your web page and the radio its simply not good enough. I had a very disappointed 3 year old and was not the only disgruntled parent that day.
I have tried reaching Twycross by e-mail and calls to date no contact.
The general state of the park is not great and the amount of empty animal cages is concerning.
This is not a cheap day out and I feel that I have definitely overpaid for the experience.
Holiday trip to zoo
Visited the zoo with my 3 granddaughters very disappointed. The Gruffalo trail started well but most of the buttons that activate the story telling were broken very disappointing. There were very few animals to view quite a lot of cages empty and hardly any outside. Where are all the monkeys it was famous for?. I remember this zoo from when my children were little and it was a great day out well worth the money. I was sad to see it today empty dull and missing the vital ingredients the animals.
