My name is Joey. I was a resident at TomCats for about 2.5 yrs. I’ve been drinking and drugging for almost 20 yrs.
I’ve been in multiple treatments centers trying to get help with my addiction and mental health. Sometimes I was 100% in and sometimes I wasn’t, I would do it for other reasons. But my time at TomCats I was 100% invested in sobriety and myself. I was there for me and only me. I wanted to get my life back on track. I was open to any and all advice that was giving to me by the staff. The day I moved I met tom and Cat. My first impression of them was that they are the most caring people Ive ever met. Tom and Cat would stop by the house all the time to see how everyone was doing. They would take the time to speak to everyone. Other places the owners would only come by when rent was do. Tom and Cat are seriously invested in each and everyone that is a client in there houses. I know I would t be where I’m at in life if it wasn’t for them. Tom and Cat are the real hero’s of this world. They have dedicated there life’s to helping others get there life’s back on track.
If you’re serious about getting sober and having a life you can be proud of this would be a good place to start. I went from being homeless and heavily dependent on drugs and alcohol. Now I have my kids back in my life a great job, but more important my sobriety.

TomCats will forever have place in my heart

Just want to put it out there that TomCats Place II is a great place to be, they’re here to help us. Not like some of the phony people out there. Ever since I’ve been here I’ve been staying on the right track and doing the right things I thank God for Tom and Cats Place II.

After struggling with being bipolar and homeless, leading to jail, I ended up in Waterbury Hospital. Miraculously I stabilized on meds and called TomCats and they not only accepted me they picked me up when I was out of the way! Had no transportation. Great people! Kind.

The founders of this program have the biggest hearts! They lead with compassion and care for each and every individual they serve! The program is structured and built with the client in mind- what does each person need as an individual- and they help get the need met- in any area!

It is a cozy living space where the people are kind and extremely focused on recovery with the lead of Tom and Cat

I was fresh out of incarceration, without a place to go. While a Sober House leaves a lot to be questioned in one's mind, I was welcomed here by Tom and Cat at the TomCats House on Ridge Road in Manchester.This acclimation back into society allowed me to secure a job, secure a credit card with my job, and now I have four of them, purchase a car, get off State Aid which was EBT and also Husky Insurance. I now pay for my own insurance , both auto and health and have responsibilities like a normal citizen. While I hope to save funds for a place of mine in the future, I am happy with a safe room, one I keep clean and tidy, have good people I share my unit with and we all take part in making it clean and sanitary. I am thankful for what I have, even though it is a little, it is still a lot compared to where I was a year ago....having absolutely nothing. Life is what you make of it. Nothing comes to you, you have to go get what you want. It also has many obstacles and at times, is not easy, but what does not break you, only makes you stronger. Complaining, as many do, gets you nowhere, it only shows your weak side. Sometimes, one needs to look in the mirror and ask..."are you happy with what you see?' If so, then don't complain, if not...change it, as only you can do that. Think positive and positive things will happen, think negative and treat others with out dignity...well, see where that leads. The things that make us happy, are literally all around us. Just open your eyes and enjoy a nice walk, a conversation with a stranger, a spring rain or a warm breeze, and of course...sobriety, in which a clear mind brings positive thoughts without compromise. Thank you Tom and Cat for helping me feel human. Thank you for those in my house who get up every day and give it their best...for you keep me motivated.

Safe, affordable housing for those in recovery

I want to take a moment to publicly recognize Tom and Catherine Cabán-Cardona of TomCat’s Place II for the important work they are doing in the recovery housing community.

Tom and Catherine are not just operating a house — they are using their own lived experience, faith, compassion, and years of recovery to help create a safe and structured environment for people who are trying to rebuild their lives. Anyone who understands sober living knows that this work is not easy. It takes patience, accountability, boundaries, love, and the courage to help people even when the road gets difficult.

What I respect about TomCat’s Place II is that they are clear about structure, responsibility, and community. Recovery housing is not just about giving someone a bed; it is about helping people develop routines, stay connected, become accountable, work toward independence, and learn how to live sober one day at a time.

Tom and Catherine have opened their doors to many people who needed support, stability, and a second chance. Their hearts for recovery and service are evident, and their commitment to helping others deserves to be honored.

No program is perfect because recovery work involves real people facing real challenges. But I believe Tom and Catherine are sincere, committed, and deeply invested in helping individuals move forward with dignity, purpose, and hope.

Tom and Cat are a loving husband and wife team who are providing a safe and secure residence for those of us who need a safe place to begin our lives anew. That they prioritize safety and security should be acknowledged and applauded, which I do. I have been a resident at TomCats Place II long enough to see many disgruntled people arrive there with many grievances. Considering that our lives there are quite normal, safe, secure and meaningful it should be no surprise to anyone that there are many persons who are struggling to have Peace and Serenity in their lives. The peace and serenity and love and caring I've experienced at TomCats Place II is something I thank God for everyday. I pray for this same experience for all who are ready to allow Peace and Serenity to guide their lives in freedom from whatever may bring struggles into their lives. As individuals we each are entitled to individual thoughts and opinions. I pray my thoughts and my sharing my experience are not offensive to anyone. TomCats Place II is a great refuge where I've found Safety, Security, Peace and Serenity.

Hello tomcat House 2 on ridge Street and locust Street in Manchester Connecticut are run by two people that come off as being compassionate caring but in reality it's all about the money it's just it's a business they don't really give a crap about you I lived at tomcat's house from December of 2025 until June 3rd of 2026 I've had stuff I've had food stolen from me and was reported to two different house managers nothing was done about it in fact the thief still lives there I've had a room in the front of the house on the second floor over overlooking the porch in the front of the house where all the other residents would gather to smoke cigarettes regardless of whether or not it's affecting your asthma or not or your health it's coming into you know through the window if you have an air conditioner they all they also charge you additional on top of the $900 a month for the for the rent for a bed they charge you an additional $10 or $20 a month to have an air conditioner in their house I was asked to leave because they have a person there who is transforming from a male to a female she's the house snitch and the pet at the house who was disrespecting me at a group meeting and not caring about you know keeping her nose out of stuff that when I told this individual to turn around shut up and eat her Pizza that they bribe you with at the relapse prevention meetings held off site but a woman named Mimi I was asked to leave because I offended her by telling her to shut up and that didn't want to listen to how tax dollars are paying for this person's transformation from man to woman she's a transvestite living in an all male sober House anybody see anything wrong with that but the owners they don't give you warning they don't say you violated anything they don't even give me a copy of their lease no matter how many times you ask for it they just kick you out all and the biggest con job is the fact that they call themselves a sober house there anything but a silver house not one person in that place including the owners I believe don't even know what the definition of sober means because if you smoke pot you're good they don't say nothing and they do do urine tests but the urine tests are done by the house manager who is a former drug addict himself so I guess they don't verify it the owners they take the word of the house manager who lets his friends slide on positives it's not a good place it's not a good place to stay sober it's not an inspirational place they don't try to help you you know with the recovery and you know getting out on your own they're just worried about the almighty dollar I would look elsewhere and I'm speaking solely as a person who was kicked out on the street and left homeless because I didn't want to listen to the transvestites repeated talks about how bandages have come off and that the Connecticut taxpayers are paying for her transformation cuz she's not happy with her body boohoo 🤔

I want to say how grateful and thankful I am of Tom and Cat. They are wonderful people that have helped me through my life of hard times and can’t Forget about Rex ball Buster, but very useful and smart I couldn’t be where I am right now without the three of them and I thank them so much
