I celebrated my 30th birthday at The Big Cat Sanctuary and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From start to finish everything felt so special, personal, and magical.
We were welcomed with afternoon tea on arrival, looking straight out onto the lions — and had our own private table reserved for the entire stay. The food was absolutely delicious. When we were shown to our tiger lodge, I was blown away by how beautiful it was — they’d even put up a Christmas tree since we visited in December, which made it feel even more magical. As I was pregnant, all my drinks were thoughtfully tailored to be non-alcoholic, which I really appreciated.
The first half of our tour that evening was incredible. I got the chance to tong-feed the black leopards (an experience I’ll never forget!), and we were welcomed back afterwards with hot chocolate before a dinner that was simply to die for. Breakfast the next morning was just as amazing. Falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of lions roaring through the night was surreal and something I’ll always treasure.
On the second day, I hand-fed the white tiger and my husband hand-fed a lion — both absolute bucket-list moments. We were also lucky enough to see the family of snow leopards before the cubs went off to their new homes.
Rikki and his team of trainees were fantastic — so knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate. You can feel how much they care about the animals, and they make the whole experience so personal and immersive.
There were only us and one other guest staying the same time, which made it feel even more intimate and special. Honestly, I can’t recommend The Big Cat Sanctuary enough. If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, this is it.

We visited big cat sanctuary this week as part of my son's 18th birthday celebrations and there are not enough positive words to sum up his experience and mine.

From my first interaction with the lovely lady who met us in the car park got a settled and handled all the paperwork for us to start starting the day there isn't a single part of the experience that we could fault.

We were both Rangers for half a day and spent the morning with the incredibly knowledgeable and engaging Nathan where we helped with the feeding and care of both their tiger and two of their Lions we were given a tour of the new education facility and of their brand new meat and food preparation area and as my son has studied animal care he found it absolutely engaging and insightful to be behind the scenes we chose in Richmond activities were taught how the animals were fed and how the amounts were decided upon before going out to take part in that ourselves after what can only be described as the most generous and delicious lunch with ever experienced on one of these things we were then met by Mikey who gave us a private guided tour of all of the cats in the sanctuary he's knowledge and passion was incredible and he gave my son all the time in the world to both ask questions take things in and to share the information that he knew that Mikey didn't.
My son and I both have autism and ADHD and when we arrived I explained how that might present with my certain what is background with animal care and his interest in it was and not a single member of staff treated him anything other than with the utmost respect care and helpfulness to the degree that he's come home with a reignited passion for animal conservation and care something that's entirely down to the incredibly high standard of this experience.

What a disappointment from 5 years ago.
In 2018 it was magical and atmospheric to see the
big cats.
This time it was totally commercialised with loud music coming through speakers everywhere for most of the 3 hours we were there.
Cats were pacing and seemed agitated.
Other people felt the same, particularly those who had been before.
