Requested a quote, rushed and patronised. Asked health questions, when asked if I had ever had cancer I said I had nearly 9 years ago but was removed successfully and no treatment was needed. I was shut down and told to call back when I was cancer free for more than 10 years. This made me feel discriminated against for being ill.
I saw an advertisement for life insurance & give my number to them & was contacted by Richard Harrington who went though the policy with me & with hind sight should have just accepted the quote & thought about it but unfortunately agreed to the policy & paid the first payment of £43 which I now regret & have cancelled due to the negative reviews that have worried me about the company putting premiums & my financial situation. I'm 63 working part time & have rent & bills to pay don't want the worry of paying insurance every month it is a lot of money to pay as I get older. I phoned to cancel & have to wait 10 days to get my money back & have to wait 5 days for a letter of cancellation no email to confirm cancellation

I took out a policy when 55 in 2022 at £43 a month, i asked if the premiums would increase and was told no, only if I had the policy where the payout premiums increased would my monthly payments go up, I did not receive the yearly smart family life insurance policy anniversary letters so was shocked today when I received one stating my monthly payments were increasing to £51:80! I called Smart insurance to try to understand and was told it was because my policy is “age based”? This certainly wasn’t explained while they were eager to enroll me, so I asked the question “what will my monthly payments be in 13 years when I’m 70?” And was told it would be £135 A MONTH!!!!, as a pensioner £135!! I have requested that they look into the original call I made as the clueless young man on the other end of the phone was adamant it was explained to me categorically that there would be a yearly increase as it is an age based policy, I understand that I’m not a 30 year old none smoker explaining to the young lady on the phone “wow, £16:50 a month for £250,000 of cover! That’ll pay off the mortgage and have enough left over for the wife, kids and her new fella to have a holiday!”utterly bemused! £135 a month in 13 years time?!?! They are looking into the original call and will notify me of their findings in 3 working days………
Quick update!.. smart insurance called me Back today and explained that a manager had listened to my original call and that everything was explained and nothing was misleading….so I asked again for a summary of how much my monthly payment forecast would be if I lived to be my fathers age ( who is a fit and healthy 82 year old) and was told….wait for it….£397:88 a month! Wish I had given them 1 star now….i have asked for an escalation with “the manager” who it seems is incapable of speaking with their customers…1star now!
My experience with Smart Insurance has been extremely disappointing. They seem to refuse claims with questionable justifications, leaving customers frustrated and without resolutions.
Adding to the concerns, I noticed this statement on their website:
"All SMART Insurance business has now been transferred to AutoProtect (MBI) Ltd following an acquisition in 2018."
This type of disclaimer raises red flags, as such practices are often associated with companies that prioritize avoiding accountability rather than providing quality service.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Smart Insurance. If you're considering their services, I highly recommend reading the reviews on this page first, and then choosing a different company.
They refuse the most obvious claims.
I've recently had a claim for scratches on my car. One scratch had a 29cm-length, which was completely obvious in the photo attached to the claim with a metre clearly readable in the photo. They refused it because the light reflection of the asphalt/road on the car in the photo, to their eyes (!) looked scratches and hence more than the 30-cm limit; whereas just a little careful notice would've made it obvious where scratches ended and what the light reflections were.
I am totally disappointed with their service, and almost certainly won't be taking insurance with them in the future.
Guy was really nice and very positive with me but when it came to cost of life insurance approx £60 a month for £100.000, I realised I could not afford it. His tone changed completely from Friendly to quite direct and said well it only comes down to do you love your family, made me feel awful but I think that was the intention. Unfortunately I cannot progress due to the cost.. tv add made it look adorable
Claim clauses are not clear and they interpret it as a gain for their side. I'm sure I'll pay less if I get the car done in a private garage.
Terrible. Adds everywhere, spam emails, all over YouTube, it's like slowly being brainwashed. Then, when your daft enough to call its ALL hype!!!! A scam, but legal. I fear that older, vulnerable people and parents will be be afraid by these tactics, and talked into it. Shocking guilt tripping and emotional blackmail. 😢
I decided not to pursue a quote with this company, however, even after me requesting no more contact they continue with phone calls daily, which I ignore but has become very irritating and harassing. LEAVE ME ALONE.!!!
Raised a claim via the app, no response, sent messages through the app, emailed, phoned and was told someone would get in touch. No response to claim. Really bad. Paid 300 quid when I purchased my car for bodywork cover. As far as I can tell this is a scam.
A Crooked Liar Devious Firm. They Ask No Medical Questions, Bit My Nephew Died From SUDDEN Asthma Attack 4 Months After Policy Taken Out. They Refused To Pay Out. The Financial Ombudsman Did Not Want To Know. ONLY IN THE UK SUCH CRIMINALS EXIST.

Horrendous experience miss sold policies pre warned
Horrendous experience. Completely miss sold. Took out policy to cover car chips, scuffs. But when we went to claim they wouldn’t process it because they said their supplier “shine” don’t / can’t do chips! These are the tiniest stone chips on the vehicle that you always get and that’s why we took the protective out when we purchased the vehicle at Peugeot.
Completely miss sold a policy and I recommend you avoid at all costs. Taken 5 weeks and still nowhere further forward. Stuck between shine and smart, no one would take responsibility. And everytime got promised a call back never got one (4 times). Horrendous experience.
How can a supplier and insurance company sell a policy to cover chip repairs and then not actually cover you.
If anyone would like to see the photos of the chips (less than 3mm) and only 3 on a Bonnet. So you can see for yourselves just the smallest type of chips they won’t cover, so you can decide yourself. They stone chips all have to be within 30cm radius. So the small print basically prohibits you from have a bonnet covered. Please make sure you check the policy before paying. This wasn’t in the policy content when we registered for it.
Currently awaiting a response from the ceo to understand how they can miss sell and have written to the ombudsman to highlight.

Took out life insurance through this company was promised it Amazon gift card on the last payment £ 100 pounds but up to I have not heard anything I think this is just a gimmick to make you take out their insurance very disappointed misleading I will be cancelling my insurance policy
