⚠️ CONSUMER ALERT
⚠️ CONSUMER ALERT – Mystery Packages / “Amazon Lost Packages”: misleading and harmful commercial practice (Package-Version Update)
This alert is directed at all consumers considering the purchase of so-called “mystery packages”, “lost packages”, or “secret parcels” sold by online shops and vending machines. After repeated purchases and detailed inspection, it is clear that this business model constitutes a misleading commercial practice, prohibited under consumer protection legislation (e.g., DL 57/2008).
Unlike the versions sold by weight, these companies sell “package bundles” — for example:
5 secret packages – €54.99
10 secret packages – €89.99
20 secret packages – €159.99
“XXL fun packages” – €54.99
Advent calendars with 24 mystery packages – €179
The presentation is highly attractive: piles of sealed parcels with shipping labels, courier bags, cardboard boxes, and envelopes. This creates the illusion that each package contains something valuable, new, or at least functional. But the reality is vastly different.
✔️ What I found inside these packages:
Returned items
Used items
Incomplete products
Broken electronics
Clothing of extremely poor quality
Defective accessories
Items with missing parts or no original packaging
Zero documentation, zero instructions, zero warranty
✔️ The deception technique used:
The companies deliberately use sealed courier-style packages (DHL bags, generic Amazon-look envelopes, cardboard boxes) to:
Prevent any inspection — you cannot see, touch, or evaluate the product before buying.
Create a false sense of authenticity — parcel labels and courier bags are used to mimic real deliveries.
Simulate value through quantity — many packages stacked together look like a bargain, even when 90% contain products worth less than €2.
Exploit the “surprise effect” — a psychological tactic where the consumer hopes for something good while the seller knows the true content is low-value or defective.
✔️ Key finding: over 90% of the items are worthless
Across multiple purchases, more than 90% of items were:
broken,
used,
incomplete,
outdated,
or simply trash that no legitimate retailer would sell individually.
A “secret package” costing €5–€8 per unit (based on bundle price) often contains items worth less than €1 — sometimes literally useless leftovers such as broken umbrellas, damaged electronics, cables, empty pouches, or unbranded accessories.
✔️ No guarantee, no refund, no transparency
Some of these companies even advertise:
“100% Fun – 0% Guarantee”
“You never know what you will get — but there is always something inside”
This is an explicit admission that they refuse responsibility for product quality, which contradicts consumer protection rules.
A seller cannot legally exclude responsibility for defective or non-conforming goods.
✔️ Legal perspective
The following conduct matches the definition of misleading commercial practice and misleading omission, because:
the true condition of the goods is intentionally hidden,
packaging is used to create a false impression of authenticity and value,
the seller fails to provide mandatory information,
the consumer cannot make an informed decision.
Furthermore, the absence of guarantee or inspection violates the principles of good faith, transparency, and consumer rights regarding non-conforming goods.
✔️ Why this is harmful
Consumers pay €54–€159 for bundles of items that collectively are not worth even a fraction of the price.
The business model depends on reboxing returns and defective items and selling them as “mystery packages”.
This is not entertainment.
This is repackaged waste sold at premium prices.
📌 Conclusion
This critique is not directed at individuals, but at a business model that misleads consumers and results in significant financial loss.
I strongly advise everyone to avoid purchasing these “secret packages”, regardless of whether they are sold by weight or by bundle.
The probability of receiving defective, used, or worthless items exceeds 90%, while the advertised excitement and “fun” are used as a cover for selling low-value returns at inflated prices.
Consumers deserve transparency, honesty, and respect — not reboxed garbage sold as mystery.
