The whole concept of business is, you pay for a product or service, and then you get said product or service in return. Not with Runway.ai. I bought the subscription because I needed one video for my website, just one. Spoiler alert - it wasn't able to produce even one video, which is the whole concept of the site. I type in the prompt, it spends about a minute buffering and then "Task submission failed: You do not have enough credits to run this task." that is literally copied and pasted. Not enough credits, despite not having received anything? So they don't give you enough money to do a single task? How is that allowed? So that means that I have spent my money, for nothing. So, naturally I try and contact customer service and it's just a bot, which is ok, ai is powerful now, except they are clearly using a very cheap 2010 bot that just goes round in circles and it literally just kept asking me the same question over and over again and then contradicting itself. So, I go searching for customer service all over the page and the only thing I can find everywhere is prompts and buttons to "upgrade my plan" or "buy more credits". Either very poorly designed UI or just a scam where from the beginning they reel you in with the cheapest tier and then force you on more expensive tiers or to buy credits, if you actually want to use the service.

Editing does nothing. Told it to add a lapel mic, it gave me a headset an a lapel mic. Told it to remove the headset twice, did nothing. Horrible. Can't get my credits back if the video/image is unusable.

Worst experience ever... I tried to create a test video, the results were awful. Although I had given very detailed instructions and uploaded my own photos the outcome was unusable. All credits have been used with this horrible, fake, video. Then you have to pay all over again!! Unbelievable! If you try to talk to an agent you keep getting replies from a bot. And when you finally get to talk to a customer representative you wish you kept talking to the bot...

I did research on the web that recommended Runway AI, but this obviously was paid for despite it not mentioning it. I did the free trial and was happy with the results, but the minute I signed up for the Pro version of Runway AI it stopped working. I couldn't even type in a command. I would type and it would only show about one new letter every 5 to 10 seconds. So, I was typing blind. This is an impossible way to work. I figured it was just the time of day. After trying various different times over various days and the same thing happening, I reached out to tech support. They claimed the didn't understand what I was talking about. So, I sent them a video showing it happening. They did not respond to that. I finally decided to give one last chance before contesting the bill with my credit card and I was finally able to type in a command. The video created sucked, but at least it was a start. But, I was unable to download it. I think quite frankly that this is fraud by Runway AI. They have promised a service that they cannot deliver.

Very poor platform. Very expensive as it is credit hungry. Makes many errors in image generation, charges credits to amend the issues and then the errors remain. Very restrictive guidelines make content creation scope extremely limited. A rip off! Not recommended.

Runway AI has been a complete waste of money, time, and patience.

I purchased a paid subscription through Google Play that included monthly credits. On paper, it sounded useful. In reality, the app repeatedly burned through credits while failing to actually produce the videos I paid to create.

The process is extremely misleading. It will generate the initial concept or preview and use credits for that step. Then, when you try to accept and actually create the final video, it either says more credits are needed despite credits being available on the account, or it simply errors out. When it errors, the prior work disappears, but the credits are still gone. So you end up paying for credits, spending credits, and receiving no completed video.

This happened immediately on day one. I realized within about an hour that the service was not usable for what it claimed to provide, canceled the subscription, and requested a refund. That is where the experience got even worse.

Runway repeatedly pushed me back to Google Play for the refund. Google Play declined the refund and directed me back to the app/provider. When I contacted Runway again, I kept getting the same circular chatbot responses telling me to go back through Google Play. Eventually, I reached what appeared to be a real person who asked me to attach my Google Play receipt so they could process the refund. I did exactly that, along with the supporting information. Then nothing happened. A few days later, the same automated chatbot loop started again as if none of the prior conversation had happened.

To make matters worse, the chatbot also claimed I did not have an active subscription, so they could not help me. Of course I did not have an active subscription anymore. I canceled it almost immediately because the app was not working and I did not want to continue paying for something unusable. That does not erase the fact that I paid, had credits, attempted to use the product, and did not receive what was promised.

From my experience, Runway AI is unreliable, misleading, and nearly impossible to get support from when something goes wrong. The credit system feels designed to burn through paid credits without actually delivering usable results, and the refund process sends customers in circles between Google Play, chatbot emails, and non-responses.

I would strongly recommend avoiding this app unless you are comfortable paying for credits, losing them to failed generations, receiving no completed product, and then being trapped in a support loop when you ask for a refund.

This was one of the most frustrating subscription experiences I have had with any app.

In short: images (they do a good job; although we've found other programs that do a better job in their FREE version); videos (look for another .ai program; the quality is average and it consumes all your credits for practically any edits you might need, and the final result is still error-prone and/or questionable). We do not recommend it.

It started out so promising!! Made a beautiful 15 second video. But as I tried to refine the video, it took my credits, but gave me a lesser quality product each time; never achieving my ultimate goal - which wasn't terribly complicated, so it left me quite frustrated. Burned through all my credits, only to have a video get worse and worse. Ridiculous. Try anything else.

I purchased a month of service for $37.94 to try it out. I requested 5 enhanced images based on an image I uploaded to them. This resulted in very poor quality images that looked amateurish, poorly rendered, and were of zero value. A few days later I took another stab at it and I was informed that my credits were depleted, and they needed more money before I could generate a short video. Sheesh Runway, what a shoddy way to do business.

This experience was a total waste of my time. This site as I see it is a total scam cashing in on people new to AI. I deleted my account and I will not waste my time trying to wrestle my $38 back from this useless company. I will check my credit card to ensure that they have not tried to bill me for another month. They should show more self respect in this competitive field.

The problem is that even when you are still learning how to use the service, you lose limited credits for results that are not usable if the prompt is not correct.

This means you can spend your credits very quickly before you even understand how the tool works properly.

Then, when you ask for a refund, you are told that you used the service, even though in reality you were only trying to learn it and did not receive real value for the money.

This feels unfair and very disappointing.

During the free trial I was very impressed with the app and it did exactly what I needed. Then after purchasing the ai stopped being able to follow simple promos like ‘landscape’ or ‘portrait’, if I imported a portrait it would turn it into landscape and vice versa. It appeared to stop following my prompts when I purchased the plan, but this could be coincidental.

I messaged to ask to have £10 - £25 credits reimburse to my Runway account. I’d wasted far more than this on the app not following simple prompts, so in my opinion, this was a fair ask. They havent got back to me so I imagine my request has been ignored.

I subscribed to Runway expecting high-quality generative video results based on their marketing materials. The promotional content strongly suggests that cinematic-quality videos can be created from well-structured prompts.

However, in practice, I was unable to generate even a simple 3D turntable animation of a clean geometric logo that matched the provided reference images. Despite carefully refining prompts, simplifying instructions, and even using AI assistance to optimize prompt structure, the outputs consistently failed to match the requested design or maintain visual consistency.

The system frequently:

Altered the original design by adding unwanted elements

Flattened 3D depth despite explicit volumetric instructions

Failed to maintain structural integrity during rotation

Produced results inconsistent with the given references

This required repeated attempts, consuming credits without achieving the expected outcome.

The gap between marketing expectations and real-world performance is significant. If professional-grade cinematic results are advertised, users should be able to achieve high-quality short animations with reasonable control and reliability.

At this stage, I do not feel the product meets the level of precision or consistency suggested by its promotional materials.

Scam company.
Bought some credits, it would not do what I asked, kept doing wildly out of line things. When I asked for a refund they said they read my prompts and could see why I was frustrated but don't refund used credits. It literally was doing NOTHING near what I asked it. This company should not be allowed to be in business.

I barely started generating a single video before my paid credits were immediately exhausted. I couldn't even get one valid, complete output; the system demanded I purchase more credits almost instantly. It completely negates the purpose of paying for a monthly subscription when the actual cost is tied to a rapidly depleting pay-per-use credit system.

I contacted customer service for an explanation and requested either a refund or a credit refill, but they flatly refused both options.

It is truly lamentable and incredibly frustrating to pay a recurring subscription fee only to be credit-gated and left unable to generate even a basic finished product. This setup is misleading. I deeply regret not having looked for reviews beforehand, as it seems many other users have fallen into the exact same trap.

Avoid the subscription unless you are prepared for immediate, hidden costs.

I am extremely disappointed with Runway. I purchased the Standard Plan and used it for a single prompt, which immediately consumed 320 of my 625 credits. After that, I wasn’t able to generate any more videos.

Runway’s website feels unclear and deceptive in how it presents its plans and credit usage. It was also very difficult to find a way to contact the company.

The only positive part of my experience was that Runway processed my refund quickly.
