I’d give Rent a Wreck a zero stars if I could. They quoted me $127 for one week, booked through Expedia. Got to the airport and had to wait half an hour for the shuttle to take me to their “desk”. There, I had to do everything through a monitor/remote video. Prior to my trip, I had paid $100, and received an email saying I’d have to pay the remaining $27 at pick up time. Got there and after all the paperwork, they told me I’d have to pay $254 (instead of $27) for “rental car insurance”. This, despite the fact that my credit card company already has a policy to insure my car rental, which I told them repeatedly. The “customer service” guy was giving me every excuse possible to make me pay the $254. If I had paid, the rental price would have ended up being triple of what was originally quoted. Classic bait and switch because they mentioned nothing like this in the email they had sent me. It was always “$27 remaining, and you’re good to go.” I hope they go out of business soon. Unethical robberies!
They charge you extra after you return the car
The car was in good condition. That was the only good thing about this experience.
1. I found they had the lowest cost on Expedia so I booked it.
2. In addition to the payment on Expedia, when I came to pick up the car, they told me about other charges that they will put on my credit card: E pass activation card, and I had to buy their Damage and Collision insurance. They do not accept any other, even if you have the highest type of credit card with insurance when you rent a car. But this isn't the main issue.
3. After I returned the car(in clean condition because we rarely used it other than going out for dinner in the evenings) and three weeks later, they charged my credit card for another $271. I asked them why, and they charged me $60 for cleaning and $150 for a scratch. When I had returned the car, I told the counter person that we should check the car to which she replied, 'oh don't worry about it, we took the car to the back already and everything is fine.' Looking at some of the reviews, it seems like this is a regular practice for them.
DO NOT HIRE FROM THESE PEOPLE !!
DO NOT HIRE FROM THESE PEOPLE !!
The whole thing is a scam, once we arrived to pick up our car they told us that we had to pay minimum $920 for Insurance otherwise we could not collect the car. I argued that we had already paid the hire fee quoted but the rude manager was adamant that when you pay online it is only 3rd party insurance and you need full cover insurance. I feel like a fool for trusting APM car Rental (Rent a wreck), I should have know that a company with that name is not serious. Anyway don't be fooled by these horrible people ... YOU WILL REGRET IT !!

i can see now why they have terrible reviews, i booked 3 cars through them, flew from NJ to Orlando go to pick up rental and there's MANDATORY extra $600 charges, mandatory insurance $70 per day, mandatory toll pass $13 per day,
my booking was $400 and they want to add $581 to my elderly parents after they get off the plane. no good no good, i'm liberal, but these are the immigrants that come to our country and justify ripping us off. RUN AWAY
They blind-sided me
I was like these other reviews, I was dawn in by the $80 rental for 4 days. That $80 turned into:
Tolls for 4x Days @ $6.20 $24.80
EPass Activation (Per day) $149.95
Energy Recovery Fee $4.00
Vehicle License Fee $4.00
Waste Tire/Battery Fee $2,50
Airport Recovery Fee $58.27
Minor Damage Waiver $287.99
Car Rental Fee $99.95
Surcharge $10.00
Sales Tax (6,5%) $32.73
Security Deposit: $500,00
For a total of $1,156.18. $500 security deposit has yet to be returned even though it's been 4 week since the rental.
It's not a cheaper option, it's a scam.
Rented a car from this company in Costa…
Rented a car from this company in Costa Rica. They charged me additional $980 for 10 days of "insurance" coverage at pick-up after I already paid the rent. They won't take my AAA or Progressive insurance that covers all rentals, and the attitude I got... It's the mothership of all "karens" in the Solar System. So, it's scam - stay away.
Avoid this company at all costs
My experience with this company and its ownership was absolutely terrible. I strongly recommend that others think twice before doing business here.
I rented a vehicle and drove it only about 10 miles before returning it in the same condition I received it, with a full tank of gas. The employee who checked the car back in confirmed verbally that the vehicle was returned in good condition. I even have recordings of the conversation and footage of the vehicle at the time of return.
However, five days after the vehicle was returned, I was suddenly charged for a broken window that did not exist when I returned the car. I was also told that the owners deleted the original return photos and replaced them with photos showing broken glass taken days later.
This situation is extremely troubling. Based on my experience, the handling of this matter feels completely unfair and raises serious concerns about how customers are treated.
Because of this, I am now:
• Filing a small claims court case
• Reporting the matter to the Better Business Bureau (BBB)
• Filing complaints with consumer protection agencies
I hope other customers do not have to go through what I experienced. Based on what happened to me, I strongly advise people to stay away from this company and consider renting elsewhere.
If I could give 0 stars I would
Booked a rental car through Expedia for a really great deal (or so it seemed). Later found out it was through another rental company. Don't trust a company name called "rent a wreck". You will get a vehicle that is extremely dented and a complete piece of work. They said I will get money back that they don't use for toll fees, so far I have received nothing ! Weird place and just an f.y.i they don't even rent to Florida residents or people who have a DL from Florida, talk about sketchy.
Edit: Today I got charged MORE MONEY!!
SCAM
SCAM. CRIMINAL AND SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. They ruined a great vacation by not returning our deposit and then charging us for a dent and a scratch on the rental that was already there. We also found a dirty plate under their seat and fork yet the charged us a 80 dollar cleaning fee. They also wont accept any insurance so make you pay for theirs.
Lots of hidden fees too. They also make you do your own inspection report so they are basically preying on family's that miss little things then because they have your credit card they charge whatever they want.
We are out $2500 Canadian and it feels like we were just ripped off and stolen from.
Police should charge them with theft.
They also never disclosed a broken tail light and when I called them on it the morning after picking it up they said oh dont worry we know of it. Guess what all the damage they said we caused is all around that tailight.
Im disputing all of the charges as we took a video and can clearly see they are lieing.
In my 52 years on this earth I have never experienced such a dishonest and deceiving company. They are ALL CROOKS AND SHOULD GO TO JAIL.
Very bad experience
Very bad experience. They enforce unwanted fees and charges. Customer service was super bad. Please stay away from these guys
Extortion
This was plainly a straight up scam in Cancun.
The location for pickup was different than ALL the other pickup services at the airport. We unfortunately forgot this after traveling
(which I think is understandable). We texted and called them several times at 2 or 3 diff. numbers but there was no response. The only message we got was to say that our car would be ready in TWO HOURS and we received that AFTER we left the place for another agency.
When we finally figured out their address (which was wrong) and got a taxi there (and got ripped off on that ride!) they made us wait and wait and wait for no apparent reason only to tell us that the insurance would be an extra 1200USD!!!!!! I selected the insurance when I made the reservation and showed them that PLUS my personal insurance but nope! THANKFULLY there was a guy from another independent Mexican agency (Esteban at ETC Car rental- USE HIM- great guy!) who helped us out and gave us a great deal! And then I rerented a car from
him because I elected to stay longer. So, your little scamming girl running that agency COST YOU TWO RENTALS TOTALING OVER 1800USD.... Needless to say, that WAS NOT the way to welcome one to Mexico and I was UTTERLY LIVID!
TAKE YOUR NAME OFF OF THEIR AGENCY as I am about to TEAR THEM UP ON EVERY SINGLE RATING MECHANISM I CAN FIND.
Horrible
Horrible. Thought Id give it a try. They wanted inflated prices for the toll option, then after showing them my full coverage insurance they looked at it, which was Progressive, and they said insurance not accepted. We never did get a car and was left there trying to figure out what to do. Stay away from this company.

I was very unhappy with my experience with Rent-a-Wreck.
First off, I saw nothing in the information that it was located off-site from the airport. So we had to wait almost 1 1/2 hours for someone to come get us.
When we get to the “office” which is just a kiosk where the person who picked us up brought us to. They had so many fees that the total price more than doubled! One of the fees they added was because I had my own insurance! So I offered to use theirs instead and they told me that would be even more expensive! Completely unacceptable as the total price on Expedia said it included all mandatory fees.
***DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YPU WANT TO PAY MUCH MORE THAN YOU ARE EXPECTING***
DONT EVEN BOTHER - Read the Reviews
I don't write reviews, but listen when I tell you, read what everyone else has said, and RUN. The initial "deal" found on Expedia is nothing but a click-and-switch scam. Every single part of this experience had red flags, from the "shuttle" to an office next to a logging company that screams predatory, to the ominous room where you're held as the employee adds charge after charge to your once-small bill. The ridiculous hidden fees for having your own insurance, the SunPass, daily cleaning, security deposit hold, even the drop-off in the parking garage was sketchy! I was texted to leave doors unlocked and keys in the glove box just begging for someone to steal so they could charge my card. The worst car rental experience I have ever had.
Scam at its best
Scam at its best. Hidden fees and Worst customer service .
Should be shut down
I prepaid Expedia $325.34 for a rental car that was supposed to be $455.36. When I went to pick up the car they did not have it for our agreed upon price. First they said I had to pay $49.99 per day for their toll pass or a $3,000 deposit if I didn't take it; even though I wasn't using toll roads. We were then told they need a copy of our insurance AND declaration page. Luckily I had the app on my phone to even access that. After that we were told our full coverage insurance wasn't good enough (it's good enough for my car loan though???)! We have GREAT insurance through State Farm. So they said we had to purchase their $200/day insurance. They handed us a bill for $2,400 at this point for all these extra "fees." I told them where to stick that bill and they said good luck. All while the girl was behind the counter singing and dancing in her chair with a smile while she is giving us all of this bad news. They told me the price was $2,400. I walked outside and another lady was poaching customers that were leaving. She tried to rent us a car "off the books" and showing me the price on her phone calculator. Like what?! It was the craziest experience I have ever had! I have tried reaching out to Expedia several times and getting slow responses saying that they're looking into it. The agreement was I pay $325.34 ahead and the remaining $95.36 when I pick up the car. The rental company lady said I can cancel with no fees but Expedia has still not returned the funds. They said they cannot reach the car company (shocker). This was a scary experience because I was sitting outside this scam rental company with my husband and 2 kids with some lady trying to poach us in a sketchy part of town, and could not find a car to rent anywhere. We only rented here because it was a last minute trip and it was the only place that had cars. Everyone was booked. There is a different company right next door. We found out they were not affiliated and they had a car someone didn't pick up so we got super lucky and got a rental (after spending 2 hours trying to figure something out)! This place should be shut down. I will be reporting to BBB and anywhere I can so that no one else has to experience this. I am also disappointed in Expedia that it's been almost a month and no resolution. What a story though!
Do NOT rent here or any similar NPR Auto Group Franchise
Do NOT rent here. They use bait and switch tactics and attempt to purchase unneeded extra insurance or they will not rent you a car. My auto insurance coverage exceeded their requirements but they refused to rent me a car unless I purchased expensive extra insurance. They claimed it was required by Florida law which was a lie.
IA preditory business!! I decided to try Rentawreck on a recent…
I decided to try Rentawreck on a recent trip to Orlando it seemed a bit sketchy as I approached the location. Luckily I had made sure that I had contacted customer service to make sure I had all the necessary documents to avoid their insurance games. Upon checking out the car they had me fill out a vehicle inspection for the current scratches or dents. I did this which is typical when renting a car. Upon returning the car I made two requests for them to do a walk around to confirm that I not created any new damage to the cars (which is typical with reputable rental customers) my request was twice denied which concerned me given that I dont live in the area, and traveling back three thousand miles would put me at a disadvantage if a dispute occurred. Upon my return to home I called after a period had past and my deposit had yet been returned. I got an email back saying they were keeping my deposit claiming that I had scratched their bumper. And left their car dirty (both untrue). I now understand why this franchisee does not rent their vehicles to locals. If i or most the people that have been wronged, they would be in small claims court all the time. What these predators rely on is that the cost to travel back and fight them is not cost effective for their victims. I tried to talk and take my concerns to the regional manager of Rentawreck but he was unwilling to take my call requests. He just parrots and referred to the original response. I can't encourage you strongly enough to NOT do business with this company. The defrauding of customers is the main strategy of their business plan.
Avoid this company at all costs.
Avoid this company at all costs.
I booked and paid through Expedia, but at pickup I was hit with hidden fees and outrageously overpriced insurance. The staff then demanded even more money beyond what I had already paid. It felt deceptive and shady.
I refused to take the car. There was also no shuttle/van available as advertised — just more wasted time and frustration. This place is a complete hustle.
What made it worse: Expedia offered no real support at all as a customer when this happened. You’re basically on your own. Be very careful booking through them.
Do yourself a favor and do not rent from this company and think twice before booking through Expedia
Almost got taken by a great rate found…
Almost got taken by a great rate found online. Looking at the fine print if I use my own insurance it would cost me an extra 200.00 for no other reason that they didn’t get to sell me their insurance. Run from this company.
