Would never recommend
We had a very disappointing experience with Ownit Conveyancing following the settlement of our property purchase.
Our matter settled successfully in July 2024, and we received written confirmation from the firm that their work was complete and the file had been closed. All settlement funds were transferred as requested and the transaction was finalised through PEXA.
However, shortly after settlement we were contacted about a water bill that related entirely to the seller’s pre-settlement period. After extensive correspondence and escalation over many emails, the issue was eventually reviewed at a senior level within the company and we were issued a refund in October 2024 after the firm acknowledged that the matter had not been identified during settlement.
Despite the issue being resolved and refunded, we have since received ongoing payment demands and threats of debt recovery for various alleged fees, with no supporting documentation or explanation of how these charges were calculated or why they were not addressed at settlement.
We have repeatedly asked for evidence, including PEXA records or reconciliation of settlement funds, but none has been provided. Communication has been inconsistent, and statements made verbally have contradicted the firm’s own written correspondence.
What should have been a straightforward property transaction has instead turned into a prolonged and frustrating experience involving repeated attempts to collect money we do not believe is owed, long after the matter was confirmed as closed.
Based on our experience, we would strongly encourage anyone to reconsider using this firm.
Do not use
As a buyer this was the sellers solicitor, we terminated the contract a week ago and are still waiting for them to refund our deposit.
Above and beyond my expectations
Above and beyond my expectations - trustworthy, transparent, competent, prompt and clear communication, and great value. Overall, their expertise and pleasant interactions reduced my stress.
Poor service and communication
My experience with Ownit was terrible, especially as a first-time buyer. After signing the contract to purchase the property, we sent it to Teagan for review. At that stage, we were not asked to provide identification documents, nor were we advised to ensure that my signature and name matched my legal name.
Later, our lender required documents with a signature that exactly matched my legal name. When we raised this issue with Teagan, the follow-up process was extremely slow. It took more than a week to resolve, and during that time there was little to no communication from Ownit. This caused us significant stress, as we were worried we would not secure the loan and could potentially lose our deposit, which we could not afford.
We had to continuously chase updates for over a week and even involved our broker and property agent to try to accelerate the process. I believe it was an oversight on Ownit’s part not to confirm or advise on necessary amendments to my legal details during the contract review stage.
As a result, we were required to pay an additional $550 to Ownit and $660 to another party to amend the contract—costs that could have been avoided. We were extremely displeased and disappointed with the service, as well as the unnecessary stress and financial burden we were put under.
If nothing goes wrong, Ownit may be a budget option for buying or selling property. However, if any issues arise, they do not appear to review matters thoroughly or provide prompt and appropriate advice. I would not recommend their service.
We had to contact the Legal Services…
We had to contact the Legal Services Commission and report them. The LSC advised us to speak with the Principal Solicitor, Ben Schneider as Ownit conveyancing had made an error-Schneider claimed it was just a typo, however LSC have asked me to lodge a written complaint against the Principal Solcitor, Ben Schneider, at which we now have. They also recommened making a complaint against Ownit with other government agencies. Schneider instructed me to refrain from lodging a complaint against him.
Buyer beware!!!!
Buyer beware!!!!! I should have researched more closely at reviews but they seemed good value and having settled other properties in the past, other solicitors made it look easy. Ownit were awful and I regret the day I decided to use them. Communication was terrible. When i say terrible I mean atrocious. I haven’t been able to speak with my solicitor even after leaving messages. They make commitments they don’t keep. Left everything to the last minute, leaving me no time to properly review and transfer funds etc. despite me chasing them again and again telling them how important it was to have this managed in advance due to my commitments. They miscalculated my settlement figures and asked for more money twice within 48 hours-of settlement. They “lost” the cheque (over 40k) for outstanding body corporate fees of the previous owner resulting in strata appointing legal counsel to chase me for money. As I tried to chase them for this, they initially denied any issue and said it was paid. Whilst (after much difficulty) they finally “found” the cheque and paid it, we are now in dispute over the oncharged legal fees. Good luck contacting them as once they have your number they avoid answering your calls or returning your messages. If they do respond, it’s via email providing wishy washy assurances or commitments that they don’t keep. I can’t believe they are allowed to operate and I will be making further complaints through regulatory bodies to try and prevent this from happening to others.
Do yourself a favour and pay the extra $500 to go with a different firm. I wish I did.

I could never recommend Ownit Conveyancing. The whole experience felt like I was being churned through a sweatshop. No personal service, no legal advice and poor communication throughout. We constantly had to chase updates, reports, and documents, right up to settlement.
Their “free contract review” missed key details (like the postcode!), forcing us to re-sign the contract and delaying settlement. Most emails were templated and irrelevant, and our main contact, Madison Brown, is a paralegal — not a solicitor?? “Chelsea Fowler,” who occasionally emailed us on behalf of Madison, doesn’t appear to exist locally, which makes me think much of their admin/ pretend "legal" work is offshored.
They also only discovered over $12k in unpaid body corporate levies the night before settlement.. a huge oversight that could have delayed settlement.
Disappointing from start to finish. Do not waste your time, money, or energy with OwnIt Conveyancing.
happy with cost but lack of communication is a concern
You get what you pay for, low cost but also very difficult to speak to someone. Emails arrive right on 5pm so you have to wait until the next day to communicate with someone. At 5pm on the Friday BEFORE a Monday settlement, an email arrived stating that the buyers solicitor was requesting a form and Ownit asked (in the email) what we advised them to do. The form had been sent to Ownit at least a month prior to settlement date. I had no sleep that night, thinking settlement would be delayed. I found my emails that clearly showed we had supplied the correct form at the beginning of the contract. I also had an email from Ownit confirming they had received all documentation. I forwarded these emails to Ownit as well as the buyer solicitor with all the necessary forms attached to the email. These forms should have been sent to the buyers solicitors weeks prior to the settlement date. I finally got to speak to Ownit just hours prior to the settlement time and was advised that the buyers solicitor must have misplaced the documents and they agreed that yes we had sent the correct forms. No apology for sending us the Friday PM email that caused so much concern. While we are happy with the cost and happy that settlement did happen on time. We were very frustrated with the lack of communication and the emails that should have been dealt with at their end prior to forwarding onto us. If they hadve checked their own records they would have realised that we had already supplied the form they were asking for. No apology for their error. We are thankful that the settlement did go through and also thankful for the confirmation phone call to inform us when it was all finalised.

Well I had a quote given to me and when I got the final bill it was way over the quoted price 🙃
They have refused to refund me extra fees
They have refused to refund me fees that I should not have had to pay. They are a very dis-jointed team of monkeys who do not communicate with each other. Very frustrating.
Customer service above and beyond!
I had the best experience with OWNit Conveyancing from the very first phone call. Nida was extremely helpful when it came to guiding me through the entire process, happily and thoroughly answering all my (sometimes stupid!) questions. I highly recommend OWNit for their prices but mostly because of Nida’s excellent customer service and amazing attitude!!
Requested a quote from their website
Requested a quote from their website, and now I’m getting spammed daily by them with no unsubscribe option and no response when I reply for it to stop.
Would not trust a legal business that does not understand their own legal requirements for spam.
Terrible service
Avoid this service. You must double check all the calculations done by them otherwise you may be ripped off.
Smooth Process and Transaction
Thank you for the wonderful service! My wife and I moved in without any problem.
Entirely Unprofessional
I got an online quote for conveyancing which was fine. Then came the spam. Phone call, texts, emails without an 'unsubscribe' button. More like a boiler room operation than a professional company.

This company has young girls who exhibit poor communication, inflated quotes and lack of follow-up.
Very unprofessional to deal with
We used Ownit to purchase a property and all I can say is save yourself a whole lot of angst and use a different business to do your conveyancing matters.
Totally frustrating experienceTotally…
Totally frustrating experience. Settlement was on the 13th of December. Our over payment of over $28K took over a month to be paid back. Numerous calls made with little action made. Still to this day we have not received a final statement of accounts after asking more than 10 times. Loads of excuses made and blaming other conveyancing companies for their lack of follow up. Find another service provider that is customer focused.
Avoid at all costs!!!!
Avoid at all costs!!!!! Totally useless bunch of amateurs. Every piece of communication is automated and they don’t even bother to personalise the emails with your name or information. Felt like I was acting on my own behalf the entire time. Complete waste of money. Never again.
Ownit Conservancy is equal to nightmare,....
To say the least they are nightmare to deal with, they call themselves professional which I don't think they know the meaning of it, they call themselves exceptional customer service which they have proven over and over they are otherwise.
They settled our to buy property without our knowledge and to make the matter worse ignored the very important contract's special condition so burdened us with potentially a faulty property.
No communication and no one own to the blunder they made, we are still to receive settlement documents after a week. Absolutely stay away from this firm at any cost as they aren't what they claiming to be, not at all.
