Current customers, avoid at all costs!

Terrible experience from the start, we are currently Own Home Co customers and we should have seen the red flags from the beginning. We had 3 meetings to go over the same information with 3 different people. We were approved pretty much immediately and found a house very quickly, unfortunately due to the lack of professionalism from the Own Home Co team we missed out on the house we really wanted as they didn't do the building report inspection in time - even though they had over a weeks notice prior to auction. After I found the founders email on LinkedIn and reached out to him directly, this got the ball rolling, we were promised a phone call back (this never came) but we did get the (second) house we wanted, noting the buyers agent gave us terrible advice at the auction, luckily we had done our own research, didn't go in with an offer as high as he recommended and ended up paying under the FIRST offer he suggested. Again all of this should have been red flags, however we were desperate to get into our first home, had good credit and good earnings but this was our only option without the full deposit amount. Then the paper work errors began, every single piece of paper work we received had errors, from interest rates (would have cost us 100s of 1000s of dollars if we had not read this properly) to simple things like name spelling. When interest rates went down we were not given any sort of decrease, even though we are paying almost 9% interest, now with the increases these have been immediately passed on. Please please please avoid if you can at all costs!

Gavi and the entire home buying team were nothing short of phenomenal while we were searching for properties. On a Saturday night, after spending the entire day attending auctions for other clients, he managed to bring our negotiations home successfully. Working with the team to secure a loan provider and my first home was quite good overall.

Regular updates and follow ups. There were some miscommunications and assumptions that everyone has a math brain but we worked through it.

The experience as a Deposit Boost Loan customer is the complete opposite. I sent an email to Lending on 19 January requesting to change the repayment frequency and never got a response.

When they changed payment system providers I received multiple emails to update my details when I had done it.

They present as quite high tech, but I guess that was just an assumption.

There's no portal/visibility on the loan, which is also very different from the pre-approval and buying perspective. Again, this my assumption from their polished marketing and website.

Being neurodivergent having visibility/transparency over my debts helps with my anxiety and stress.

I'd like the flexibility to increase my repayments and make extra payments especially as the loan rate is high, but as I've signed a contract, I have to accept this is how it is. At least the interest rate dropped again today and they're passing it on.

It really feels like I've stepped back to the late 90s when the internet came to Australia. At least I'll receive my statement via email (unless I'm making another assumption).

OwnHome is such a revolutionary service for people like me to achieve their dream of owning a property. I’m hardworking and have a secure job that earns enough to afford the monthly mortgage. But being an immigrant, I have no family here to borrow money from and don’t have enough savings to reach that 20% deposit for standard home loans. Instead of significantly altering my lifestyle to save that 20%, not to mention the soaring prices in Sydney that feels like goalpost is always moving, OwnHome sped things up so i can get on the property ladder. The concept is fantastic and without them I would have never got on the property ladder when I did. The communication at the start of the process was fantastic however I found that when I was in the contracting process leading up to settlement the communication could have been better. However I raised concerns with Bridget and they were swiftly resolved. All in all a great experience, in the end I feel well looked after.

Working with OwnHome was truly a game-changer for my partner and I.
