Personable, professional & life-changing results
I had my ICL surgery at OCL Vision and I’m really happy with both the experience and the early results. From my first consultation, I felt completely at ease. The entire team, from the optometrists and nurses to the technicians and Emile the surgeon, were genuinely warm, personable and easy to connect with. That positive energy is what made me choose OCL in the first place.
They explained everything clearly at each step, and on the day of surgery, Emile talked me through the entire procedure as requested. It made such a difference to feel informed and reassured throughout.

My experience with Rayner's Galaxy Lens
I have waited almost 8 months since undergoing Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) at OCL Vision - London in January 2025 before writing this review. What follows is my honest and unbiased account of my experience with Rayner’s Galaxy lenses. While I could write an essay, I will keep it as concise and informative as possible.
The First 8 Months – Struggling in the Dark
Following the surgery, I experienced intense visual disturbances: glare, halos, ghosting of images, and significantly reduced contrast in low light vision at all distances. I couldn’t read my phone or a book, apply makeup, could not see my food clearly in front of me, or function my other day to day tasks normally. I replaced every light bulb in my home with the brightest LED lights I could find, yet my vision remained dim and unclear. Everything took twice as long to do. Worst of all NO GLASSES COULD CORRECT MY VISION. I was in despair.
The Diagnosis – Dry Eyes or Something More?
My symptoms were repeatedly blamed to my pre-existing dry eye condition (meibomian gland dysfunction), which was diagnosed by the same surgeon prior to the operation. I was explicitly told by the surgeon that I wasn’t suitable for traditional multifocal lenses because of this. However, I was reassured that the Galaxy lens was a good option for me.
Only after months of post-op research, I discovered that the Galaxy lens IS in fact a type of multifocal lens, only with a different optical design. Many ophthalmologists have described it as such in online videos and websites. This left me with a painful question: If I wasn’t a candidate for multifocal lenses, why was I given these in the first place?
The Turning Point
After months of suffering, I eventually underwent IOL exchange surgery to replace the Galaxy lenses with mono-focal lenses. I now have monovision—one eye set for near, one for distance, the improvement in visual clarity and the absence of dysphotopsia have been life-changing.
My second surgery was performed by Dr. Steven Safran in New Jersey, USA—a surgeon who specializes in complex lens exchange cases and many other severe eye issues. He receives referrals from ophthalmologists across the country and has a YouTube channel focused on teaching other surgeons. If you're interested, search YouTube for:

You'll find my case video there. I Strongly Recommend reading the comments—many of which provide technical insights into the Galaxy lens, including its material (hydrophilic acrylic), haptic design, and long-term performance concerns.
The Discovery – Lens Calcification
Both of my Galaxy lenses had already started to calcify just months after implantation. The haze on the lens was clearly visible on the video. According to Dr. Safran’s experience, lenses made from hydrophilic acrylics may calcify over time—typically after 10+ years—but in my case (and in another patient he documented with Rayner’s EMV lens), calcification occurred within a year. These lenses are meant to last a lifetime without issues, I was told once...
Final Thoughts and Personal Advice
• Always consider doing one eye first, and wait 4–6 weeks before proceeding with the second, regardless of how confident your surgeon sounds.
• “Glasses-free” sounds appealing, but multifocal lenses come with significant risk of dissatisfaction. There’s even a term for it in ophthalmology—"Multifocal Misery."
• You can often achieve functional glasses independence with monovision, using mono-focal lenses. Be sure to ask your surgeon to do a proper test for you on Mono-Vision.
• Most importantly, it’s not about ditching your glasses—it’s about seeing clearly, without this you lose your quality of life, trust me.
• The IOL exchange surgery is very different from the routine cataract surgery, it's complex, it's challenging, requires different set of skills, and experienced surgeon.
I’ve also heard of others who have had good results with the Galaxy lens. This review reflects only my personal journey, shared in the hope it helps others make informed decisions.
Dr. Safran doesn’t need any more patients, publicity, or praise—he has a months-long waiting list and works purely out of dedication. I mention him only because he was the one who helped restore my vision, and in doing so, brought closure to my story.

Brilliant care and experienced staff
I had actually been shopping around for LASIK. The other places I had consultations at had told me that they could do it. So when I got here and they said that I wasn't suitable for LASIK - I was pretty confused. Dr Wilkins took the time to explain to me why I wasn't actually suitable. I ended up getting the ICL procedure that was explained and recommended to me instead.
Leading up to the procedure, all of the staff that I had been in contact with had been incredibly friendly, informative and very responsive to my questions. On the day of the procedure, the level of care before, during and after was brilliant. I actually had high pressure in my eyes after the procedure so they kept me a little longer afterwards, checking my eyes until it stabilized. Overall, a 10/10 level of care and experience.
