House of Dun
Me and my friend went to visit House of Dun in the end of January. We had such a nice welcome from the lady in the shop and we enjoyed our guided tour through the house. Our tour guide was Colin. Thanks to them we had a really enjoyable visit, he is very knowledgeable and answered all questions as well. We visited the garden where we found such a lovely fairy area, so good place to visit with kids.
Dunn House
On holiday, visited Dunn House on 01/03/24 what a wonderful day out
The staff and guide could not have been more helpful
Than you all so much
Internal server error
Have been having loads of emails asking me to resubscribe to their emails, (which I already have done). When I log into my account I go to "my profile" and click on the "subscribe to emails" button and select "save". Then all I get is the spinning chaser (ex egg timer) symbol. When I exit and log back in I still don't appear to be subscribed to emails. Eventually I get the dreaded "internal server error".
Also I tried to make a complaint on line but with the same result as above.
It is pointless sending reminders if their servers are not capable of updating user profiles.
Robert Burns heritage centre and cafe…
Robert Burns heritage centre and cafe in Alloway is unfortunately spoiled by very poor service in the cafe.
Poorly trained staff, big queues ,disorganised , not knowing where to queue and closing early for food because too busy I was told. After waiting for 10 min I had to call someone to ask about the service only to be told food provision closed early.
It needs a manager to organise the whole cafe service and to train the staff properly.
A very good visit.
We visited the new centre and gorge and we think it is a must see on a Scottish trip. The visit was made better by the lovely staff in the shop and the font of knowledge who we met named Tommy. Thank you for making a short stop even better. Ian,Christina and Karen.
Great customer service very helpful…
Great customer service very helpful kept me in the loop and delivered on time. Lovely pocket map and Scottish dictionary too for stocking fillers. Very happy with my purchase.
they have beautiful locations
they have beautiful locations, lovely staff in most of the places
no interest in their membership
Called to change my membership and was on hold for 45 mins listening to how important my call was to them, clearly not at all. Used online to complain several weeks ago still no response, clearly customer care is not even on their priority list
Preston Mill. Thank you Alastair Munro
Amazing, huge thank you to our guide Alastair Munro.
Informative, interesting and very welcoming. A gem. Amazing place.
Rip off
Heard an advert on the radio for NTS. Went to visit Culzean castle at the weekend. Presented my student card and was asked to pay the student rate but later found I had been charged the full rate.
Went to the restaurant and had a smoked cheese and ham sandwich and chips for £8. Turned out to be a child’s size potion sandwich with stale/hard bread, cheap tasteless cheese and tasteless wafer thin cheap ham. Also if you buy chips with the sandwich they only give you a half portion.
Emailed a complaint to NTS and they didn’t even bother to reply.
Would have been better to get a supermarket meal deal and go to a free country park and save myself £40.
Extraordinary
What a marvelous and extensive collection of historic and important properties! We could only visit a few on a short trip to Scotland, but each one exceeded expectations.
my husband and I got married at Fyvie…
my husband and I got married at Fyvie Castle on 22.2.22. it was the most magical experience. we loved meeting Rhona and she was so extremely helpful when planning our wedding. she certainly helped to make the experience as stress free as possible and we were able to relax on our wedding day knowing everything was in hand.
all of our guests remarked on how beautiful the castle is and a number have said they will be going back for the tour.
I would highly suggest Fyvie Castle as a wedding venue and you will be in safe hands with Rhona!
Not worth the money even in the sales
I recently purchased a grey leather crossover ladies handbag from National Trust Scotland. I was particularly taken by the colourful contrast between the grey of the bag and the rich tan colour of the strap. Well, the bag arrived today, all crumpled in a thin cardboard envelope. I know it is a leather bag but it stinks unpleasantly of leather to the highest heaven. I might as well have a cow walking by my side! The colours are nowhere near as vivid as on the photograph and the striking tan strap is an uninteresting light brown. The adjustable part of the strap is permanently curled through poor packaging. There is not a single pocket in the bag in which to put keys or smaller items, so I guess you just have to drop everything in the bag willy-nilly. There is a front pocket but as it is secured by a single stud, I would not trust car keys etc in there. I have only two consolations: 1) I did not pay the full £65 for this sad, thin little bag that dangles on me mid-thigh even on shortest setting ( I am 5ft 4). Even at nearly half price, it feels like a rip-off. 2) As unlikely as I am to ever use this bag, I should be able to locate it by smell alone if I ever lose it. May I suggest that NT Scotland launch a companion fragrance for this bag. Just call it ' Eau de Vache'. So glad I didn't buy this as a present for someone.

Well Done ! I feel compelled to write a positive…
I feel compelled to write a positive review of The National trust for Scotland Hats off to them for keeping most sites open for our pleasure during the pandemic what a pleasure it was to find all these beautiful castle sites open for our use while the trust gained nothing financially. I was also pleased to see that the vast majority of visitors were respecting the sites and keeping these sites as immaculate as the find them Well Done. National trust Scotland.
Always a great day out!
We've been to a number of locations across the country now and can confirm it's worth every penny. The homes and gardens are always interesting places to explore, customer service is great and it's an excellent day out for children. You can download the app and tick off the places you've been whilst planning your next trip. Highly Recommended!
Went to Castle Fraser on the 23…
Went to Castle Fraser on the 23 February. We have been there twice before so kind of knew what to expect. But as we always say there is always something you have missed like in movies.
The guide was very informative but the group was 12. He told us about the history of the castle which was good (but I could have got it out of a book). However, he rushed us through every room which was not right. Even though we have been a member of the NT for a couple of years and enjoyed our membership, we think it is wrong RUSHING US THROUGH IT ALL THE WAY HE DID. Many people wanted to look around the rooms but the guide didnt seem to think that it was important for people. My husband and I like to read some of the descriptions ourselves. Then he rushed us up three flights of spiral staircase visitors following. When I reached the top I felt I was on a roundabout. Feeling really sick and dizzy. He should have stopped in the rooms up the stairs not rushed us all up. One hour is not long enough to see everything you want to see and read about the family and the objects on show.
When we went to Haddo House we had a 2 hour time. The guide was fantastic leaving nothing out and we still had time to look around ourselves too.
This is the worse visit to Castle Fraser we have had since joining the NT.
Took my money but no membership card
After 3 months of waiting, my temporary membership card will expire in 4 days and I have not received permanent card. I have sent 3 emails to NTS with no reply. Don't even have a membership number. Customer service seems to be non existent. Will not be renewing.
Excellent service
Excellent service, lovely people and great sites. The cottage ratings could probably use the full range of scoresa but more would be my only concern. Perhaps sometimes I find that whilst their 5 star really is 5 star, their 4 star could may be be a 2. Even though that is fine because it is a wonderful location and a very reasonable place?
Still waiting for membership cards and…
Still waiting for membership cards and no reply to email asking what has happened. Customer service nil. Such a pity, great idea but run by incompetents, will not rejoin next year.
