Significant Time, Significant Cost, No Successful Launch
My experience with Nium was disappointing and ultimately very costly.
My company spent more than a year integrating with Nium's platform. During that time, we encountered repeated onboarding delays, technical issues, inconsistencies between testing and production environments, documentation challenges, and extended response times. Despite continued engagement with Nium's technical and management teams, we continued development in reliance on the relationship and invested significant time and money into the integration.
In October 2025, Nium suspended and then terminated our access to its platform.
We subsequently filed an arbitration claim seeking recovery of approximately $70,000 in documented development and integration costs. After a lengthy arbitration process, the arbitrator ruled in Nium's favor on the contract claims, and I respect the outcome even though I disagree with it.
However, there are a few facts that prospective customers should know:
• Nium sought approximately $40,000 in attorney's fees from us during the arbitration.
• The arbitrator denied Nium's request for attorney's fees in its entirety.
• The arbitrator specifically found that we did not act in bad faith in bringing the case.
My takeaway is that prospective customers should carefully evaluate Nium's technical readiness, onboarding process, responsiveness, documentation quality, and long-term commitment to the relationship before investing significant development resources. Based on my experience, substantial time, effort, and expense can be incurred before a platform is fully operational, and businesses should ensure they are comfortable with that risk before proceeding.
This was my experience. Others may have different experiences.
