A year ago, I purchased a service to obtain a Portuguese tax number. The stated cost was €74.90.

After completing the registration, the company refused to provide access to my Portuguese taxpayer personal account.

I thought this was the only issue I had to deal with.

However, a year later, I unexpectedly began receiving daily demands from the company to pay an additional €99.90 for “representation” services. At no point prior to this was I informed about such a service. I never gave any consent to it. It is also impossible to cancel this “service” without access to the personal account, which the company continues to withhold.

In other words, the company’s actions appear to be structured not in the client’s interest, but in a way that creates grounds for additional charges.

I consider this to be a deliberate act of misleading the consumer, unfair business conduct, and fraudulent behavior.

I strongly do not recommend dealing with this organization.

Scam, it just saves you time when you only have to visit an office called Finanças. Then they register themselves as your fiscal address. Today I need to change it and Financas sends a password to their address and they’re asking me for 99€ to renew another year of services to send me the password. You can do it yourself. It’s an absolute scam.

I had a good experience with NIFonline when seeking to official tax representation while seeking a Visa in Portugal in 2023 (I am a US citizen). Furthermore, when I needed help removing NIFonline as my tax representative online with the tax authorities in Portugal (because I was no longer residing there and/or seeking a Visa), their customer service team helped me complete all of the steps to accomplish that promptly just the annual renewal charge was coming due. Thank you, NIFonline!

I cant believe this people are still in business, they literally lied to me number of times and wasted a tonne of time to deal with these crooks. They are insisting until now that I need their representation as mandatory, when the new law from 2022 says if you are from non eu/eeu you dont need that, but they keep sending me invoice every year! Ridiculus

We use this company 2-3 years ago to obtain NIF's for myself and my son. The process to obtain these was simple. We left Portugal not too long afterwards and do not have any tax affairs in Portugal. Recently, we have received emails from this company saying that they will charge us a renewal fee for fiscal representation, strangely only for my son and not for me. We do not require fiscal representation and have not done so since we obtained the NIF's, although I understand it might be a legal necessity to obtain the actual NIF. The company has sent us rather threatening emails saying that it is our responsibility to withdraw them as fiscal representatives. We are no longer in Portugal, and cannot do this online because we would not know how to access our online account with the Portuguese Tax Office. Therefore we have a rather Kafkaesque situation. The company are not being transparent, they say that they have charged us a renewal fee by Paypal but I cannot find any record of payment. In summary, do not use this company - they may be effective at obtaining a Portuguese NIF for you, but you will pay for it dearly down the line ....

Edit: the company are now trying to get me to pay them a further fee in order to remove them as fiscal representatives. No less than blackmail.

Read the reviews from customers posting in Facebook Portugal groups-they are horrible! They promise to deliver the number in a timely fashion and you wait over a month when they make every excuse that they will get it to you in a few weeks time. I they take forever and their customer service is horrible. So many people I know have had a bad experience.

Sadly, I have to leave a review that reflect my negative experience with this company.

Essentially I paid, had to correct some mistakes they made on forms, then waited over a month to be told they hadn't received my form and nothing was being done. (They had received it, I even had an email from them acknowledging receipt).

I think everyone looking to obtain a NIF will appreciate how much of a problem it is to expect something official like this to be available at a certain date. And for it to fail after approx 40 days of waiting when the actual application process takes minutes... it's a laughable.

The only reason they are getting two stars instead of one is they refunded me quickly.

Personally, I could never recommend a company who are so careless.

fast , accurate and honest with reasonable charges , since my first non resident contact until all was resolved to have my own fiscal residence I found this company very good

Terrible communication on so many levels.

In hindsight there were many red flags but I was in a rush.

I explained that I’d be arriving in a couple of weeks. They sent a manual payment request because the login form wasn’t working for me (red flag).

I sent payment immediately along with all the requested paperwork. They replied quickly with one sentence (red flag) to say they were already starting.

A week later I get an email saying my money has finally come through and they would now be starting and it would be 2 weeks to get my NIF.

When I pointed out that it was pointless now because I’d be in Portugal in a week they refused to refund 100% of my money, insisting that answering a few emails, always slowly, was somehow worth 40% of the fee.

For the same price you can get an actual lawyer that is prompt, professional, and communicates clearly.
