Dolly was my Chat Tech today

Dolly was my Chat Tech today. I'll tell you she was a great help today in resolving my issues logging in and recovering my files. She was very patient with me, and I appreciate her and her knowledge. The was very helpful in all aspects of knowledge in ALL areas of the Neat website!
She is an ASSET to the company and should get a raise!!!

Liza got right to the issues and after…

Liza got right to the issues and after a hickup, she found that I didn't tell her the correct version. She was able to put in windows 10 instead of what I told her (windows 7). When this was corrected, she was able to install my drivers, which were erased after update, quickly. She was kind and thorough. Thank you Liza

Neat isn’t so Neat…

Neat has some good capabilities, but also has problems (like its GUI). I’ve been using Neat for many years for home bill management, but I haven’t been using it well, so I’ve thought of downloading my data, closing my account and doing something else with the data rather than keep paying Neat when I’m not using it. Lo and behold, I find that I can’t (at least not easily)! Their current software only allows you to download 1 item at a time. With 2K+ items in the NeatCloud and difficulty typing, I’m looking at several weeks of trying to download the data. Their legacy software used to have an “export all” capability, but it stopped working when I moved to NeatCloud (no sync). So, I’ve been locked into either biting the bullet on downloading 1 item at a time or sacrificing all my data!

On other issues, their documentation on what products they have (and have had), what the products do (for non-businessmen) and their limitations could be improved. One area that bites me is how large of a display do I need to get everything to fit well (so my old eyes can read it)?!? The GUI could be much improved.

Ultimately, I think Neat is trying to lock people into its tool rather than provide open interfaces which might allow them to focus on cloud storage and let new tools be developed in the field.

UPDATE (02/21/23):

After reading Neat’s reply to my review, I want to apologize and will raise the rating to 5 stars. A few years ago, in talking with Neat, I was informed that the Legacy system had “export all”, but not the Smart Organization system (I think I’ve still got the email somewhere). Apparently, that is no longer true, but I let that color my thinking when I misread Neat’s recent email which explained how the updated software now has the capability. I now see that it is working and I am much happier about staying with Neat knowing I have a backup if Neat should ever falter. Thank you for the reply!

to display 100 items and not the 10 or 25 that you may currently have as a default.

Had it with Neat.com

I purchased a scanner and program about 8 years ago. Loved it. Easy to use software, very consumer friendly. I had a small business and it worked very well for me. And then...they made changes in their software and everything is cloud based. Awful. Have spent hours with their "experts" only to have them ultimately agree that the software is lacking. Have set phone appointments and never got calls. Chat never open. The rates doubled but the product diminished. I literally threw hard earned money out the window. A few customer service agents have been nice to deal with but have no power to improve the software. Lots of excuses...meanwhile they collected $264. Ultimately I was told the only way to get the expense report (simple request!) is to pull it together manually. Really. How inefficient. And what did I pay for then? If I cancel I lose access to all my past years data. Cannot export it...really crummy. I tried the last 2 years to be "useful" and "helpful." Now I am just mad.

We recognize that you are a fan of our legacy Neat software and hardware products. There was no requirement to discontinue using our legacy Neat software and scanners. Some customers still use those retired Neat products with the understanding that the products are out of warranty and have received no updates.

The main benefit of Neat Cloud is that it allows customers to access Neat from multiple computers or mobile devices, from any location, and not merely be confined to just one computer.

We are sorry if you had difficulty connecting with us. Our chat is available 24/7, and our chat and phone live agents are available Mon-Friday 9 am-8 pm EST.

We believe Neat is fairly and competitively priced. You have been able to remain on one of our low-cost monthly plans. We stopped offering monthly plans back in 2022.
Looks like you were scheduled for phone appointments on February 14 and February 15. Our agents reached out to you multiple times by phone only to reach your voicemail. We also immediately followed up by email to make you aware of our phone attempts and to have you reschedule.

It does appear that our Neat Expert worked with you remotely to assist with reports. We are sorry that our expense reports don't meet your exact needs as they only include receipt item types, but we can add a suggestion to expand the criteria to our ideas portal as a feature request.

There is very little manual work required once items are stored in NeatFiles except creating and naming folders or re-categorizing your items as needed.
