Without going into too much personal detail, I am so grateful to Shelley Buxton (Contact Centre Adviser of National Grid) for resolving an issue that I had. She went above and beyond of which I am most grateful. Thank You. She completely turned around a conversation that I'd had with a National Grid Colleague about the situation (prior to this all being resolved).
Making up internal outage times to circumvent automatic compensation
I and my neighbours were without power for over 12 hours whilst this company dug up my road to replace a cable. I was expecting automatic compensation as even the external call stated the outage was between 3:34am and 4:54pm. Now they are telling me that their internal report stated that I had restored power between 4:45am and 5:45am so the clock had reset and also that power was restored at 4:40pm. Even though I reported my power was not restored at 4:45am (which I reported at 5:23am) and my power was not restored until just before 5pm. I believe this Company is making up internal times to get out of automatic compensation. My complaint has so far been ignored also. You should honour the published times for outages and not basically make out your customers to be liars and then ghost them.

I went for interview to credit control, and 2 people interview me asking 3 questions, not even looking at me, making me feel very uncomfortable from the start,rushing at the end, all took 10 min, making me feel I wasted my time. Got absurd feedback, far from the truth. Unprofessional time wasters

High grid voltage
I called National Grid today around 3 PM because my EV charger was constantly tripping out due to high grid voltage. The lady I spoke to on the phone was extremely helpful, polite, and professional. She said she'd arrange for an engineer to come and take a look.
To my surprise and delight, an engineer arrived by around 4:30 PM! He measured the voltage, confirmed the issue, and said he’d investigate further and get back to me. True to his word, he called back around 7 PM to let me know he’d tapped down the local transformer, and the voltage had dropped to a better level. Since then, everything has been working perfectly.
Genuinely impressed by how fast, efficient, and courteous the whole experience was. Massive thanks to the team — this is service done right!

National Grid created a power outage…
National Grid created a power outage and as a consequence at about 4am my 93 year old Mother's plug in door bell failed when the power came back on and it gave off an alarming noise. The door bell had to be replaced at a cost of £25. I asked National Grid if they would kindly reimburse my Mother (receipt could be provided) as it was they who caused the malfunctioning. They denied it had anything to do with them. The evidence is irrefutable!! Furthermore, an Employee suggested my Mother claim on her Household Insurance. What a ridiculous suggestion - are they so unworldly that they do not know that the Excess on the Policy would be more than £25. Were they wanting to humiliate my Mother? Had she taken up their suggestion she would have been laughed at by the insurance company. My Complaint regarding this matter was ignored by National Grid! Says it all really.

2 power outages
Had two brief power outages, so called national grid. They couldn’t find any work in the area so sent an engineer out to my property in less than an hour. The engineer couldn’t find any faults, however, he called about ten minutes after leaving to inform me that they had received confirmation of work in the area that explains the loss of power. He explained that there was nothing wrong with my power but it may go out again due to the work in the area. Really fantastic follow up from him to keep me informed and to put my worry to rest.
Shout out to Karen in the call center for sorting this all out so fast and keeping me informed.

Illegally dishonoured a compensation cheque
Received a compensation cheque for storm outage. Depositied it, but National Grid had stopped the cheque.
This is an illegal practice. The legislation states that the only legal reason to stop a cheque is "fraud, duress, or force and fear, or illegality". None of these was the case.
I will take appropriate action...

Fantastic service from you lot DE215LF on 7/02/25! Power out Friday 10.30pm reported at 10.45pm, workers digging up road 1.45am & all night in rain/dark. Fixed by 11am on a Saturday, kept informed by workers of situation & then a follow up call to check all ok. Above & Beyond!

I was in my front garden and noticed my front hedge was all damaged, A closer look found that the stay cable from the pole was damaged and had been waving around in the storm, So i phoned and the phone was answered straigt away by a very pleasant lady from Cardiff, she took all details and job done,
Its so nice to phone a company and someone anwsers the phone instead of hanging on from ages listening to horrible lift music.

The unsung heroes
We lost power, I called the national grid on 150, they picked up straightaway and were friendly and helpful. An engineer was called out and turned up less than an hour later, fixing the problem in under 10 minutes. Absolute excellent service

We recently had the pleasure of working with National Grid to reconnect our electricity supply, which had been cut off by the police prior to our purchase of the property. Initially, the process seemed complicated and daunting, but from the moment we raised our first enquiry ticket, we were guided through every step with exceptional care and professionalism.
The team at National Grid went above and beyond to expedite our slot, reducing the anticipated 4-6 week wait to a much shorter timeframe. Their dedication and efficiency were truly remarkable.
On the day of the installation, the team demonstrated outstanding understanding and down-to-earth attitudes, making what could have been a stressful experience incredibly smooth and positive. We are especially grateful to John Anderson and the entire engineering team for their exceptional service. They made our dream of having electricity a reality, and for that, we are profoundly thankful and chuffed.

Excellent Service and Communication
Hiya Lads,
Just wanted to leave my feedback in regards to my experience with National Grid Peter I must say has been fantastic. Communication from start to finish the amount of calls I made to you then your so patient with explanations about the works we had to do and materials we had to purchase, nothing was too much trouble. The date for our new connection soon rolled around and everything went smoothly our side and the company side. Great service and will definitely recommend your services to others.

Worse company dug up my garden had to reset all my cameras kept ringing my bell all hours of the night destroy my garden still no compensation no sleep for 2 nights while they had generators on they have made me ill

Update: upped to three stars. Engineers here now I think your incident tracking just isn't very joined up.
This company has lied to me all day about restoring my power. I have livestock and need power for water and they just don't care. It's gone from first thing this morning to sometime in the morning to sometime before six to no eta at all. I don't believe they ever intended to send anyone today.

Poor service.
Appreciate there was a massive storm. But it was well forecast and well warned. 4 days without water as a result and a subsequent £744 water engineers bill to sort the issues caused by no power. Despite being on the water dependant on electricity register.
Incorrect information on timings for reconnection were 24 hrs incorrect.
National Grid National shambles
Sadly the only option. Shameful

Excellent customer service.
My parent's home has been without electricity for several days due to fallen trees after the recent storm. (Nov 2024)
The helpline was constantly engaged. So I emailed customer services who contacted my parents and helped them. Organising compensation for them.
They also gave them a contact number for the future as my parents vulnerable due to poor health.
Very happy. Reassuring they're being looked after as I live hundreds of miles away.

Over paid joke organisation
This as to be the worst organisation in the U.K. been without power now for 50 hours, we are supposed to be on priority list due to my mothers health being frail, No heating, no cooking, and now no water due to electricity being off in the area making it impossible for water pumps to work, been strung along by these clowns for over 2 days, yes the weather was bad but not since yesterday morning.
