Starting Moms Meals

I started Moms Meals due to some health issues and having difficulty making my own homecooked meals. I was a bit unsure how well these meals would help me but I must say, it has helped me so much. I have lost weight, my sugar is under control, and the meals are so easy to cook. Just pop them in the microwave and done. I have had one or two issues with ordering with the meals, but as soon as I have called they have corrected the order and sent me a new order instantly. I highly recommend moms meals!

I get the heart healthy menu

I get the heart healthy menu, unfortunately, because it is not a large number of choices and very low quality food. Such as, the Beef Taco with veggies menu, has maximum corn in it, which as you might know the outer layer of corn, a human cannot digest. So, it offers no nutritional benefit. Also, they only give you 2 small corn tortillas, so that the filler (filled with mostly corn kernels) goes too far for the small number of tortillas. The food choices are smaller portions of protein rich foods, so they don't sustain you till the next meal. If they offered snacks in-between, it would make it better. Also, you cannot get drinks, (juices), with each meal. Overall, the food choices for health issues are skimpy, tasteless, and poor-quality foods. And the on-phone agents don't seem to care.

I just started using them via my…

I just started using them via my insurance. There was a HUGE back and forth from my doctor and my endo and them. I was told to expect a call, they never did. So I called and asked what was going on.

The lady said that they didn't get any information, so I called my doctor's office and let them know. A week or two goes by, until tonight when my husband came home from work saying that there was a box out there with my name on it. which is weird because I wasn't expecting anything.

So, they just packed up a bunch of stuff and shipped it. No call, nothing. I wasn't aware that they sent you a bunch on random meals for the first order....Which, cool but I have sensory issues and allergies. Most of the shipment was unusable. Hoping my husband and our niece can use it because that is waste. The info packet says that you can tailor your own meals after, which in theory is nice but in practice isn't.

So, reading on further you have to sign up for their site, no big deal but when entering my email? Can't type in the field. I'll need to call them tomorrow and let them know. If there is any another issue I'll make another review but so far, day one not impressed.

Overall a good experience

Firstly, I have read many of the reviews, and I was surprised to see that customers have been disappointed overall, and generally have experienced negative service related issues. I am fortunate because as a member of United Healthcare, my mom receives a nice perk. Post discharge from an inpatient hospitalization or inpatient skilled nursing rehabilitation center, she receives free meals consisting of two deliveries of fourteen meals, for two weeks, for a total of 28 meals delivered directly to the house. That perk is a major convenience and very helpful.

It is interesting how we all have different experiences. Overall, I have been happy with the quality of Mom's Meals. I have also been happy with customer service. Any ripples that occurred regarding meal delivery were on the United Healthcare side. Mom's Meals needs an authorization from UHC to start the meal delivery process. That process was delayed because I was getting a runaround from UHC. The situation has been remedied.

As mentioned, my overall experience with Mom's Meals has been positive. Unlike Factor75, Mom's provides great variety. After a five year hiatus, I decided to give Factor75 another chance...and last chance. On my only recent delivery with Factor, out of twelve meals, nine were chicken. I had requested beef, fish, pork, and chicken. I did not receive any fish or pork. I have no food allergies, so there was no excuse not to ship these meals. In addition, unlike Factor75, Mom's Meals were packed securely and with plenty of ice. Factor75's delivery arrived barely even cool. I seriously considered chucking all the of meals. Factor75 did not offer an appropriate resolution. They ship chicken meals because they are inexpensive and saves them money. And their food is horrendous. Meals-on-Wheels is much better than Factor75.

My assessment of Mom's Meals:

PROS:
*Tasty meals
*Nice, thoughtful varieties of protein.
*Meals are aesthetically pleasing
*Convenient
*Good customer service
*Excellent food safety. The meals arrived cold.

CONS:
*The logistics regarding deliveries could be improved.
*The portions can be a little small.
*Not the "cleanest" ingredients. The meals need to have reasonable perishable dates, so meals are prepared with some preservatives.

Overall, I like Mom's Meals.

It was a Burden!

My husband was recently in the hospital unexpectedly for four days. The majority of the time is was cognitively impaired.
You called him while he was in the hospital. I wasn't there at the time, (his wife and healthcare power of attorney). He told me later that someone had called and said that he qualified for some free food when he got home. He said yes, not really knowing what he was agreeing to.
He went home 3/9/26 and on 3/17/26 a mysterious, big, heavy, box arrived. I'm disabled and he wasn't strong, so it was difficult to get the heavy box into the house.

The food didn't look very appetizing but he did try it for dinner that night. He thought it tasted very bad, but forced himself to eat about 1/3 of the meal. Other meals were no better and the majority were not used. We thought of donating the meals to a local food pantry but given the quality it didn't seem respectful.
To get rid of the box with the very heavy ice that doesn't melt, my husband nearly fainted while taking it to the dumpster!
It seems like you are taking advantage of the insurance companies pay for this service. You shouldn't be calling a patient while they are still sick in the hospital and not thinking straight.
The box is too big and way too heavy for seniors and recovering people to deal with! Wouldn't dry ice be of lighter weight? And more than one smaller box would be better for most people to carry.
The taste and appearance, (the food looks grey) is depressing.
Your marketing makes it seem like a convenient and helpful gift from the insurance company, but it's not. Kindness and respect are expressed when you put yourself in the other person's place. Please think of how you would feel to have this come to your house, especially when you're in a weakened condition.
Now, when we thought that would be all, another big box arrived!

Avoid this company they don't care…

Avoid this company they don't care about the patients.
Had a stroke and insurance called offering the service. A diabetic diet was ordered but they sent me a diabetic unfriendly meals full of carbs and sugar. Their response was to have me give it away. No concern about why the service was contracted for. What about my meals? Called to have it corrected, and they promised to get it right. No replacement offered. The second delivery was a disappointment also— they sent the same meals. I called a second time to get the meal plan. Although they said they would change after I called I’m not getting my hopes up.
Again no concern about what i was going to eat nor a replacement was offered. Had to throw some of the meals away and give away the rest. Could only take advantage of a quarter of the meals. Still dont know what to do with all the sugary juices cookies and fruit cups. I hate to waist food.
Highly disappointing! Please use a different company!!

MM's is not ready for prime-time

MM's is not ready for prime-time; they are implementing a new system, with horrible customer service, and very low quality "foods" (if you can call them that, because they are ALL ULTRA-PROCESSED!) - Beyond the multiple delivery issues, delaying my first box by 1 week, being on Medicaid/Medi-Cal, I was grateful that I'd be getting (what I thought would be) "healthy/medically-tailored-meals" BUT NOT SO! What I got was SICK!! - After eating 3.5 meals over the last 3 days, the one that had me question & look at the INGREDIENTS (not just the nutrition label) was the 1/2 breakfast skillet I ate this morning from the low-sodium menu box. After 3 hours, I bloated to look like I was 9mos pregnant, with nausea & diarrhea! When I researched the ingredients and saw a MASSIVE use of "Maltodextrin," I looked it up to see how it can effect us, and sure enough, this being used in 4 different ways in one meal (of which I only ate 1/2 of) was the culprit. I began drinking lots of water to flush it out of my system, but my main concern is that this additive has a "higher glycemic index" THAN TABLE SUGAR...yet is also included in MM'S "Diabetic Menu Box!" - I have written to the company, filed a grievance with my insurance paying for me to get HEALTHY meals, but want to warn others to please check with your doctors about the ingredients (especially if you're diabetic or have any GI issues)! DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR....do your research...& stay healthy!

The truth about my experience with Mom's meals

In addition to the food, which has changed for the worse, I’ve been asking since January for my delivery day to be changed from Thursday to Wednesday. Simple, right? Not by a long shot. I’ve repeatedly talked to reps and supervisors, and all I get are lies and more lies.
Now that we're in March, even though they keep insisting that my delivery will be on Wednesday, it still comes on Thursdays. I chatted online hoping to get some clarity, but when I asked a very simple question, not only could the representative not answer it, but he also decided to end the chat right in the middle of our conversation. These are the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with, and I will not be dealing with them for much longer. I’ve decided to end my association with Mom’s Meals. It’s too bad because they started out with good food and good service; all that's gone now.

Mom's Meals a Great Disappointment

Mom's Meals was disappointing, and the only positive of the experience was that insurance provided it as a benefit for my mother after being discharged from the hospital. If I had paid my hard earned money for it I would have been furious. Whoever packed the first week's shipment did not even follow the packing list and sent six of the same item which was korean meatballs. When I calledcustomer service, I was told there was nothing they could do about it. I tried to be optimistic that the second week's shipment would be different. But it also had six of the same item, but this time, it was a breakfast meal. The food quality and portions were poor, as well as the fact the majority of the food was bioengineered...yuck! Not recommended!

Busted meal trays and they will not…

Busted meal trays and they will not replace. First shipment after hospital stay had 2 broken trays. Called promptly and was told my second shipment is being processed and no way to add 2 more trays. That shipment doesn't go out for another 6 days so how can that be?? Asked for a separate shipment to replace damaged goods and they said they don't do that. WHAT kind of business practice is that??? Paid for items that were received useable??????!!!!

Zero stars!!

Zero stars!!! My health insurance company ordered this for me. I have gastroparesis and celiac. I need low-fat low fiber gluten-free food. They sent gluten meals, Salisbury steak ham things covered in gravy and risotto. Nothing was gluten-free. Everything was 25% fat content 50% sodium. It was disgusting now I'm waiting five weeks later for my produce box. That's what I was supposed to get in the first place. They can't get anything right at mom's meals, she called and said yesterday was supposed to be coming. It would come by Fedex wait till 930 at night so I did nothing came. They don't have a tracking number nothing I wonder if this is just a scam like all those Minnesota childcare services they're getting the money from my health insurance, but I'm not getting any food.

Awful

These meals are terrible. Even for free after a hospital stay, I would never waste my time getting these again. So far I have tried 11 of the 14 sent. 99% went into the garbage disposal. Way too much added sugar, fatty sausage, dried pancake, soupy oatmeal and on and on.

Terrible Service

I receive 20 meals every 2 weeks. Last 3 deliveries have been awful. 1st time ordered 5 different meals, got all 20 meals as Cheese Ravioli.2nd time ordered a variety and got half my order as Macaroni and Cheese, 3rd time variety again and got 18 Chicken Chile and 2 Macaroni and Cheese. Their food is not very good to begin with and I certainly don't want to live on Chicken Chile for 2 weeks.

Weird policies, organizational chaos, vague customer service meh

My shipping label but someone else's orders inside. Same meal for all 6 breakfasts bc customer service states 'They will replace any missing meals with the same exact meal as is policy' making breakfast monotonous hell. You cannot possibly only have one breakfast meal in stock this week, that would be extreme underplanning for a set menu. Website down for maintenance without notice, customer services states 'could be back within a week or so', so next week may be random selection. No place to select meals you do NOT want in your orders ever, nor an option to opt out of the massive amount of powdered milk that's comes each week. The meals are most definitely processed, your basic TV dinners. Portion sizes are ify depending on the meal selected, with some being ridiculously small like the 2 french toast sticks and no sides (with the WORST tasting dipping sauce), or the 3 lil smokies in a spoonful of beans. They also include a LOT of apple crisp/fried apples, which I get is easy to make in bulk, but it seems like it's too much, too sweet, too often.

Ultraprocessed TV Dinners

These are pretty standard, ultraprocessed TV dinners. The meat patties, meatballs, and chicken are typically ultraprocessed, sponge textured, chunks of chewy nastiness. The meals are filled with emulsifiers, fillers, preservatives, a ton of added sugar, and hydrogenated fats. They claim in their "Food as Medicine" website section that ultraprocessed, high sugar foods with weird ingredients and hydrogenated fats are unhealthy but that's exactly what they are. In addition, most of the vegetables are undercooked and difficult to eat. Ever try to eat a half raw potato? It's unfortunate that as a disabled person, this is what my insurance gives me and I have no choice.

I've never eaten more oatmeal in my life. Most meals have a "crisp" with them which is basically just oatmeal with some fruit slop in it. The other option is usually what's just hot sloppy jam which is very runny, sugary, and has very little actual fruit in it. It's runnier than baby food. The amount of oatmeal I'm eating now has my stomach continually in knots. Even the "granola" they send you is literally nothing but dry oats coated in sugar. That's not granola. Granola is a mixture of grains, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit.

I'd also like to ask, how many rock hard cookies, stale individually wrapped pieces of bread and buns, and packets of hydrogenated peanut butter we're expected to eat since they send a ton. And who eats a meatball sub on a hot dog bun or Salisbury steak on rice? Also, why are the peas always sandy and gritty? This is obviously the lowest quality food they can get away with so they can make a ton of taxpayer money. At $7-9 per tiny meal which probably cost them a dollar at max, they're raking it in.

You're also supposed to be able to change the order from the online menu on their website. The website hasn't worked in weeks and the only answer you get is that they know it's broken.

Finally, they're ridiculously hard to open. I always end up covered in hot food trying to take the plastic off. It's a burn hazard and if you opt for a knife to open it, a cut hazard. Not great for the elderly and disabled with weak hands.
