I was a Member for several years before…

I was a Member for several years before becoming an employee. As an employee I dealt with a number of major issues and concerns, including but not limited to the following (all with evidence that will be made public in due time):

Bullying
Harassment
Unfair workload
Sexual harassment

Inappropriate touch by the District Vice President in a room full of peers, direct supervisor and the CEO Jay-Ann Gilfoy who had been sharing an anecdote about dogs when the incident happened Dec 7th 2022.

Reported bullying internally for several months before hitting my breaking point in December 17th 2022 and taking what I thought would be a few weeks off to heal and resolve my issues with HR.

In an un-recorded moment at the beginning of our call, the first HR person said, “did I consider Nigel’s cultural background or intentions when he touched me?” And it just got worse from there.

The second HR person expressed her fears of sharing the transcripts of our phone calls with me because her and her colleagues were “afraid of this going viral”.

So instead, they violated my human rights, refused reasonable accommodation request from myself and doctors. Bullied me in a recorded phone call with the Chief Ethics Officer, Kevin and subsequent interactions.

Was told after they worked to discourage me from pursuing a formal investigation that they conceded to hire a neutral third party to do the work. I asked for escalation as I was confronted with inconsistencies and misinformation to Patty Johns and was declined.

Then I sent a final email (as per instructions on the internet) and included Jay-Ann Gilfoy pleading for help. She removed herself from the email and has been working against me to retaliate and financially abuse me.

I am over $50,000 in debt again after getting myself back on my feet after having my daughter in 2019 and living beyond my means because I am only receiving 70% of my pay.

They said, “they had my back” and they did not tell me this was only a marketing technique and myself and my colleagues were disposable and easily replaceable.

Both the Website and appointment…

Both the Website and appointment setting on it are just shit..
The website was obviously designed to be viewed, and tabs chosen, for a "Smartphone" and not a Desktop Computer..
Further, in-branch consultations/meetings are frought with deceptive practices, and product offers that are not "clearly" explained to new customers..

meridian credit union is absolutely…

meridian credit union is absolutely fabulous. Meridian visa is the most dysfunctional unprofessional business i have ever dealt with! there was fraud on our card in august, we have spent hours on the phone with these jokers, have made police reports, have done everything we are supposed to do. they returned the money, then waited until we werent paying attention and recharged the credits without our permissions!! I called to complain, the moron on the phone hung up on me after talking over me trying to explain multiple times, totally not getting it! I am cutting up my meridian card and never, ever getting one again. what a bunch of idiots.
please do know my bank at meridian is awesome, if only their counterparts had even a tenth of their training.

Bank card wasn’t working

My bank card was working perfectly fine. Then I tried paying for gas, and the tap and putting it in the machine both declined even though I had sufficient funds in both my chequing and savings account. I went to two other gas stations and the same thing happened. Then the next day I went into meridian credit union, they told me my bank card is fine and I could use it. Tried again and it declined. So I went to another meridian credit union, asked for a new card and they said it should work, and guess what it declined again. I am leaving this company because this isn’t the first time something has went wrong!!!!!

MOVING FUNDS WITH A TFSA

AT THE BEGINNING OF JAN I DEPOSITED FUNDS TO AN ADVANTAGE ACCOUNT AND ARRANGED TO HAVE IT AND ANOTHER ADVANTAGE ACCOUNT AND A TERM ACCOUNT PUT INTO A 2 YR GIC ON JAN20. I HAVE CONTACTED THEM EVERYDAY FOR THE LAST 4 DAYS AND STILL NOT DONE . NO EXPLANATION OR APPLOGY

The Worst Bank Ever!

This is the worst bank I have ever dealt with. They never return phone calls and their policies are so outdated that you can't get anything done without weeks of delays! Financial representative claims that everything takes time but I brought paperwork to him in November 2024, went to see him in early January 2025 and he still had the paperwork on his desk! He hadn't even started looking at it! Now, a week later, I have phoned four times to ask if this matter has been dealt with yet, only to NOT receive any return call to date! Absolutely would never bank here! If it wasn't for my Mother having an account here, I would go elsewhere!

If I could give them 0 stars I would- Have been trying since Nov 24 to open a joint account when they had the 5%+ interest rate on the Advantage saving. I opened mine and then they sent a link to my husband that never worked- have been on the phone for hours trying to get it sorted out and never did. Today I got my first statement in the mail and thought I would try again, this time they said we could not add him to my account as was opened during the promotion! That he would have to be power of attorney - or he could open his own account and get 1.5%. Ridiculous waste of time!

Froze my account for no reason Meridian

Froze my account for no reason. $25000 in my account. I have no access to my account. They tell me that my account is under review and a manager will call within 5 business days. Total b.s. and never had that happen until I opened a meridian account. They also dropped my interest the very next day after I opened it! Do not bank with these con artists.!

If there's a zero rating this bank is a minus. I opened an account with this bank in Oct. 2024 on the day I opened the account, I was told the ATM was out of order, for that reason, my debit card can't be activated. Today, I went to the bank to activate my debit card, only to be told that my account has been closed. Ms. manager, 'why is my account closed?' 'Sorry, I don't know'. She only took my debit card from me and shield it. How abt the $5 I paid as member? No comment! After I left the bank, I called the customers' services, only to be told the same thing 'I don't know' 'nothing is written on the file'. Interesting eh! In 2024, we still have financial institutions that select who can & cannot use their banking service.

Staff are friendly but the company is…

Staff are friendly but the company is an absolute waste of time. Been there for 13 years at least. Have mortgage and loc as well as resps with them. Went to do an resp withdrawal (non educational purposes, stumbled upon a tough time). Did it a week in advance of when I’d need it. My partner banks with Scotia and has had to withdraw from resp before for the same reason and it took 24hrs. I waited 3 days and the transaction is still not completed. Called their contact centre and was told it takes time. What does it takes time mean. One month, one week, a year? I decided to go into the bank and got the same reply. Asked if they can make a call to give me a timeline. They were helpful and courteous. Long story short they’re not in control of my investment with them. Another financial institution is. Concentra. I was told it could take up to 10 business days. Over the holiday season. So there’s a few days there that won’t count as business days. This could take close to 3 weeks baring any other issues. I’ll be switching everything back to a big bank. Wont move the mortgage till it’s up but everything else I’ll have done within the next 10 business days

Credit Card Application Confusion

Applied for a VISA Card on October 25, 2024. Filled in all the required info and signed a document online. Saw that my Equifax had a Meridian inquiry that same day. Application has sat in a pending status ever since and 3 phone calls later I finally am told I need a Photo ID on file supplied at a branch to complete the application. Ridiculous Customer Service!

They can be very friendly and I do like…

They can be very friendly and I do like going into a branch where I'm recognized but I have had nothing but headache with them. I have my retirement investments with them, multiple accounts, credit card etc. and there is ALWAYS a problem with something. I just stand there and insist that they can do what they are telling me they can't do and eventually they do it. I kind of want to move everything to another bank but it's such a hassle. I'm getting close though!

Don’t use meridian bank

I went with Meridian bank for my small business, because we were told that they worked with small businesses better than some of the other main stream banks. I have never had worst service in my life. Our bank manager refuse to call us to resolve a problem and to switch bank locations needed the approval of that same bank manager, so I never could swap my home bank. They closed my account without my permission and had no solutions to many of my banking problems would never bank with them again, and it would still be too soon.

Awful Customer Service. High interet rates on mortgages…

Merdian charges interest rates on mortgages that are higher than the major banks. As bad as the customer service is at the major banks, Meridian is worse. Unlike banks, they do not provide annul statements for tax purposes. I recently asked a senior account manager what the current rates are for renewals and have not received a reply despite three emails.

Customers BEWARE

This company claims to be looking for the best interests of their members. I have dealt with 4 mortgagors in the past; even when my credit rating did not have a long history, I never got asked so much from any of them. My broker decided to deal with Meridian for my new mortgage application and it has been a nightmare dealing with them. With 9 business days left for mortgage closing they will not process a reduction on the principal being borrowed even though all documentation is in order. My broker swears it is not worth all the trouble in dealing with them. Meridian is certainly not acting in the best interest of their members. I want to reduce the borrowing amount by only 50,000. This will reduce my monthly payments so if they are really looking for the well being of their members I would expect nine business days to be enough to change the one number. Nobody wants to listen. We have been dealing with this company for 3 weeks! They know more about me than myself with all the documents I had to gather for them. My credit rating is excellent. Meridian won’t flex. I am not looking forward to being stuck with them but time is so tight. Buyers beware!

Stay clear... I was interrogated today when wanting to open an account.

I went into a Meridian branch today with the idea of opening an account. Everything was going well until I mentioned that I was planning to transfer $3-400,000 to Mexico in a few years to buy a house there and retire. This is when things changed, and from all being pleasant, I was submitted to an interrogation. Why do you want to retire in Mexico? Where in Mexico? It is not safe there, and you should retire in Canada instead. I was flabbergasted!!! It was really none of her business. Unfortunately, she had already taken a copy of my SIN and driver's license, and after leaving the office to talk to her manager to discuss my, supposedly, very suspicious activity in the future, she came back to inform me that for the time being I cannot have an account opened until further review. Having said that, I am grateful for how things panned out; God forbid, I would have actually been able to open an account with them today and entrusted them with my savings. I wouldn't now put one lousy dollar in their establishment!

Stay away from Meridian credit union

Went in today with only one customer myself and found the teller Tin M. so slow and spoke to me like police interrogations.  It took many days to unlock my accounts and an e-interac (to Mother), and 3 months to unlock my visa card (after buying a $6 ticket) with no explanation but excuses. The representative Sinthuuja K. is also very rude and unprofessional provides no help but nasty comments.  Be careful that employees at Meridian CU will lock your accounts and funds so long as they wish for their convenience not caring their members.

Excellent customer service! Highly recommend this Credit Union.

We are fairly new customers at the Simcoe/Wellington branch in Toronto and so far we have never had a problem. Our representative is helpful, knowledgeable and always gets back to me whenever I have a question. Going into the branch is always a pleasure as the staff are more than helpful and willing to go the "extra mile" to accommodate us. I have read many bad reviews, but quite honestly, we have never had a bad experience, so I am happy we made the switch to this Credit Union!

Unprofessional staff - Meridian Credit Union Brampton branch

Meridian Credit Union Brampton branch staff is totally unprofessional. For Joint account, they will make the account disappear from your online banking, if a person in Joint account dies (without telling survivor in the joint account). They will freeze funds. BE VERY CAREFUL when you open account with Meridian.

when I found out that my joint account disappeared I contacted Dusk Drive branch is Brampton. I was not given even monthly statement by branch staff (Shimyanka Bryan and Parvez Mehta). I got monthly statement from St. Catherin's staff, which are more professional.

When I raised this to Khurram Shahzad regarding this he said it is Meridian policy. No help from his side.

Be very careful with your money. They will steal your money without telling you.
