Meijer, a massive grocery chain, made a disgraceful choice: they had a 16-year-old boy arrested for eating what was reportedly a throw-away fruit cup. Think about that for a moment. Not a robbery, not violence just a hungry teenager eating food the store had already decided to toss.

Every day, grocery stores discard mountains of unsold food. Employees see the waste while barely making enough to buy lunch. Instead of addressing this reality with compassion, Meijer turned to handcuffs. They treated a minor like a criminal for a plastic cup of fruit. That’s not policy it’s punishment without perspective.

Yes, rules matter. But leadership is about proportion. A manager could have warned him, written him up, or even fired him if it continued. That would have been a fair response. Instead, they chose the nuclear option: call the police. At sixteen, that boy now carries an arrest record over something as trivial as discarded produce. That is not accountability; it is cruelty.

The irony is unbearable: Meijer would rather throw food into the dumpster than let a hungry kid eat it. By criminalizing a harmless mistake, they’ve shown what they truly value: not community, not compassion, but rigid enforcement and corporate pride.

This wasn’t about protecting profits. It wasn’t about preventing loss. It was about making an example of a teenager who posed no threat. And in doing so, Meijer revealed just how cold and thoughtless its leadership really is.

Over a fruit cup, a billion-dollar company chose humiliation, punishment, and police involvement. That says everything about Meijer’s priorities and none of it is good.

Manager assaults staff, Had a poor staff member arrested over food that is almost expired being taken to eat, don't even want their own people fed. What a crap world we live in. Don't trust these old farts. Find a new supermarket... Even better learn to share and grow your own.

Despicable company. Shopping there should be a crime, not sending a disabled employee eating trash food you were throwing out because he’s starving on low wages to prison. Awful! Shame! How do ANY of you sleep at night?!?!? I received no incentive to write this.

Over Chicken and Fruit cups they were going to throw away at the end of shift anyways they arrested a sweet hard working man that they underpay for eating such waste. MEJIER is an absolute joke. Does not support that avg hard working everyday worker like myself who gets underpaid by a greedy establishment.

You had a disabled young man arrested for eating a little more than $100 in food over a period of time to allow him to rack up charges. How immoral of you. You lost more in the long run. And no one agrees with your policies.

If the actual stores itself weren’t bad enough, the company really showed how trash it was when they arrested the poor employee. It brings me so much joy to see the pos company get what it deserves.

Meier App is terrible. Just signed up. To get perks it won't let me sign in . Tried sending verification e mail 6 times that was never recieved. Their chat with us isn't a real chat. Called customer service. No help. I even tried on web site , nothing. Just terrible.

A teenager was caught stealing $110 worth of stuff from Meijer, and now he’s facing way bigger consequences than he probably ever imagined. It’s honestly crazy that he got arrested over something like stealing lunches—Meijer could’ve just fired him, but now he’s got a criminal record. That’s going to stick with him for a long time and make life a lot harder. It’s really tough to see someone so young go through something like this, especially over a mistake that could’ve been handled differently. I really feel for him; it’s a harsh lesson to learn the hard way.

There is no sign on the bottle return stating that the bottle slips will expire after 90 days. The app needs a lot of improvement. The pharmacy staff are consistently rude and uneducated.

Miejer redone the driveway leading to the Phamacy pickup window meijer 251 stevensville. the manader bob Tharpe and Calib of risk management should be fired . they turned a simple driveway to the window into a obstcle course with 180 degree turn insuficient turning radius and concrete post. they cost me $1000 in bumber damage and they dont care, i was taking pictures when one of the Rockford construction employes Jason said this is stupid. In the last 2 hours over 24 vevhicles had issues turning around 180 degrees

This site needs to be totally overhauled by someone who knows how to design an actual working website. You can allow for down time to service the website, but the constant problems with this site makes it hard to want to continue shopping here. We all know Mr. Meijer has the funds to do this. Make this store like it was in the past, a fun place to shop. Thankyou!

As a senior citizen, I cannot afford their prices any longer. Remodeling looks nice, but prices went up. I do not need to buy 5 items as I live alone, to save.

The Meijer on 96th street has by far the worst deli in the history of grocery stores. The girl working acknowledged me asked what I wanted then hid for 15 minutes. Another employee came and asked me what I wanted then yelled hey Stepahnie you have a customer that wants a pound of ham. 3 or 4 minutes later she came and asked
Me what I wanted again. It was like she thought if she wasn’t in sight I would just leave. I’m sorry that I asked you to do your job . If it’s that inconvenient maybe you should find something that suits you better!!!

Meijer gave me a steroid with a strong fragrance in it. You can see the fragrance listed in the ingredients. I have an autoimmune disorder and open lesions on my skin. They provided no solution when I told the pharmacy this.

My son and I went to the store in Ontario, Ohio. The store is huge and has so many things to choose from and the prices are reasonable.

I was looking for a Quiche in the deli dept. and a young man name Adam helped me and said they were sold out. He then proceeded to check the back knowing that they sell out really fast. He came out with a box of them and made my day. Meijer you have a great employee! Thank you Adam
