"Megan’s" is one of my favourite but

"Megan’s" is one of my favorite restaurants, known for its delicious dishes and generally good service. However, my recent experience had a negative impact due to poor handling, which affected my overall impression.

I visited the restaurant in the morning for breakfast and coffee, and after paying the bill, the waitress handed me a card offering a free drink for my next visit, which I appreciated. However, when I returned a few days later to redeem the offer, the waitress informed me that the card was only valid for an alcoholic drink, not coffee. This surprised me, especially as I am a Muslim and wear the hijab, and I do not consume alcohol for religious reasons, which made me feel insulted. I asked her to apply the card for coffee instead of alcohol, but to no avail; she ignored my request and did not offer any apology or suitable alternative.

When I inquired again, another waitress came with a bill and a free coffee card, she informed me that I could use this card for a free coffee on my next visit. She insisted that I have to pay for my coffee this time, even when I had a card that allows me to receive a free drink. I felt very disappointed and offended because I was not treated with the hospitality I had come to expect from this restaurant. The staff member who issued the card could have handled the situation with more respect and professionalism.

Although I love this restaurant and appreciate its food and quality, the poor treatment during this visit left me feeling uncomfortable and upset, which affected my experience at a place I once considered one of my favorites.

Review of Megan’s in Clapham Old Town

Review of Megan’s in Clapham Old Town - disappointing! We were a group of 7 friends so a bit of an awkward number but we were first offered a 6 persons table with a chair on the end but with a vertical bar so the chair or knee couldn’t fit under at all. They didn’t spot at all and we had to ask to be moved. Our food came out luke warm and the attentiveness dwindled as the evening went on. We weren’t asked if we wanted any more drinks after the first and they made no effort to clear the table. We would have stayed for another drink but decided to move on. A real shame - something not working well there at all. We are at next door no 32 the night before, so much better, and Dishoom - their service was excellent. Would not recommend.

My first visit

Nice interior but my first time visit was upsetting and disappointing .
We went there for a brunch and although it was 10:45am the service was slow or perhaps our table was a bit at the side and we felt ignored most of the time.

Eventually the food was served. Nobody checked if everything was ok , so I had to ask the waitress to come as my food was awful. The Greek sausage wasn’t cooked properly , it tasted like cardboard. The scrambled eggs - a“yellow-blob-of-something”, were tasteless and unappealing.
I asked the sausage to be removed and replaced with haloummi.
I found out later that not only I’ve been charged the full price of £13.90 but I’ve been charged an additional £3.90 for the haloummi brought to replaced the cardboard sausage. The tap water was charged £1.50 ! The service charge was £9.03…

Upsetting and disappointing !

My daughter said that her vegan brunch was ok except the tomatoes and humus.

The shot of espresso was a nice and we were offered a cake on the house , which came with a little candle for my daughter’s birthday.Thank you, it was appreciated.

This was my first and it will be perhaps my last visit at Meagan’s where I paid £81 for the mix experience, the mixture of bad and good… or perhaps I should’ve come at lunch or dinner time … or perhaps I should’ve not ordered a brunch option ?

I don’t know…

It is difficult to recommend this place where some food is nice but some other food is awful and tasteless, where you will be overcharged , almost ignored and at the end rush to leave.

The waitress Vaidehi did NOT even give me the receipt after I paid, saying that the card-payment machine has run out of paper !

UPDATE: A few days later the manager Rafael ( apology if the spelling is Raphael) has refunded the overcharged amount and apologised. Thank you.

A+ ambience but incredibly slow service

Waiter accidentally spilt milk all over…

Waiter accidentally spilt milk all over my daughter and her iPhone. Gave her 50% off whole bill that was nice, however, I emailed them, so the waiter to take full responsibilty, they would only say the event occurred, and would not commit to accepting full responsibility.

All I'm looking for is a no nonsence admission of liability in case the iPhone develops a fault as a direct consequence of the accident.

Alas, they have gone all quiet. Maybe this review will nudge them to act responsible and own up to being accountable for the accident.

Over priced, spicy food / limited options

This restaurant is very pretty to look at, with lots of lights. However, after entering and being seated found the table to be very wobbly and I asked to be moved.

After being asked about allergies, I disclosed my nut allergy and had a manager of the team come over. After an informative conversation about the food I disclosed my lack of tolerance for spicy food also and he recommended some dishes! After picking the open chicken option he asked is I wanted fries and hummus to which I said no and he even explained it would be more to have this added!

Once my food arrived (which was quite quick) I found there was hummus spread all over the pitter bread and under the chicken, while I don’t like hummus anyway I found this brand to be very spicy and was unable to eat the meal!

Thankfully my partner saved some rice from his dish but was overall a terrible meal (because I was obviously still hungry) at the end of the this experience there is a service charge which came to over £8 !!!!!! Due to my server not listening to me stating no to a certain ingredient especially one that meant i could not eat the food this only annoyed me further!

Upon closer inspection of the menu, I believe this is a very limited option for Greek food and even more so for those who do not like spice! There are many wonderful dishes in Greece that could be made that are not spicy and would cater to a wider audience!

Service charge should be an option! As the service I received meant I was unable to eat the food I was charged for!
On a previous visit to this branch of Megan’s restaurant I waited 15 minutes for my Coca Cola drink and even then, I had to go fetch it my self from the bar (they did apologise but still there was a service charge)

Megan’s in Guildford

I had a catch up with a friend and had booked a table on a Thursday at 5.30pm for dinner in Guildord Castle Megans.
I am gluten free and I was shown a QR code on the back of the menu. Once scanned it brought up one option of The Buddha Bowl - which was not on the updated menu. I flagged this and the girl serving was helpful.
But then half an hour passed and nobody came to take our order. After having to alert another girl serving at the table next to us (whose occupants had come in 15 minutes later and already had their drinks) we ordered and I was told that croutons could be removed from any salad. I chose an avocado and chicken salad. It was not very nice and not worth the bill. There were only 3 tiny slithers of avocado too much chewy chicken, which looked very unappetising, and most of the dish was made up with salad leaves. The meal was the same price as the normal dish with croutons but was really lacking.
I am gluten-free as a necessity not for a fad diet and find there are virtually no meals on the new menu for allergies.
The last impression was a girl bringing us the bill looking pretty grumpy and we hadn't requested it yet. It felt like we were being rushed out. I didn't make a fuss as the main issue was the meal which isn't the fault of the girls serving.
I have been to this branch a few times and it is usually good. All in all not a good experience.

Very nice location in Battersea Park…

Very nice location in Battersea Park Power Station, along the river. The service was great and good very delicious! I do recommend this place. We came for breakfast but I m sure brunch lunch and dinner will be good too.

Long story short

Long story short - I was served pork and was told it’s vegetarian, specifically asked the staff member if what I was ordering is safe for halal diet and asked what n’duja was and she said it’s a spicy sauce.

On 9th March 2024 I visited the restaurant and told the waitress that we can only eat halal food and cannot have pork. One of the things we ordered was loaded fries (with fondue and n’duja) we asked what n’duja was and we were told it’s a “spicy sauce” and we were reassured that it is vegetarian (it is actually a spreadable pork paste), we double checked with the waitress twice.

Around the same time I suffered an allergic reaction on my skin, which resulted in blisters. This was an allergic reaction but at the time I could not figure out what it was in relation to, as to my knowledge, I didn’t eat anything that I hadn’t before. It now makes sense that it was a result of the pork.

Recently I visited the restaurant again (28th April) and ordered Turkish eggs, the waitress told me that this dish wasn’t suitable for halal/vegetarian diet as it contained n’duja which is pork. This made me realise that during my last visit i was negligently given false information and fed pork! I queried this with a waiter when I paid the bill and again, he told me that the loaded fries did not contain pork and it was suitable for vegetarians (clearly more than one staff members are not trained well and this is not common knowledge about what their items contain - very unsafe!). I pushed back and asked if he can double check with the chef/manager because I have been told that n’duja is pork so I need reassurance.

The manager came to my table quite a while later - not sure how long it was but I had to flag up to the waiter 3 times that I am still waiting. When the manager arrived he informed me that it was unfortunately pork in that dish, he did not apologize once, just said he will train staff for the future, but there was no apology or sign of remorse. He also tried to say that it is common knowledge that n’duja is pork - clearly it isn’t if 2 of your WHITE staff members didn’t know this then how can you expect a Muslim to know!! If I was vegan or possibly another religion, maybe he would have been more apologetic but as a paying customer, everyone should be treated the same. The LEAST he could have done was refund the service charge we paid as clearly their service is horrendous considering the fact that our dietary restrictions were compromised.

I just don’t understand how you can advertise yourself as serving halal meat therefore allowing Muslim customers to feel welcome, and then not take due care and attention in differentiating between halal and non-halal food. It is also quite deceptive to have pork in a dish named “Turkish eggs” - Turkey being a Muslim country. It feels as if they are intentionally deceiving Muslims, by gaining Muslim clientele whilst not taking proper care.

I have been feeling extremely distressed and having difficulty sleeping with the thought that I have compromised my religious beliefs.

Went for £5 cocktails. Ordered 5 between 5-7 only to be faced with a £70 bill!!! Apparently the actual cocktails weren’t included in the offer. Just wine and beer and a froze róse!!

Richmond

Richmond - We waiedt for ages from getting our drinks to be asked what food we wanted. Order was taken by asking us if we were happy with the fries or would like tabbouleh or something else instead. One of was happy with the fries and the other said tabbouleh instead of fries. When the food arrived, the fries were on the wrong plate and in their place was a pile of sweet potato fries. The waiter said he had tried to get us an offer but hadn't asked us about it all. Wasted food. The tabbouleh was found to be swimming in some sort of juice, that smelt like dish water. When the bill came it was put on the table and we were immediately asked if we were splitting it, no chance to look at it, but luckily we did, we had been over charged. When asked to change the bill to what we had ordered the waiter became loud and we felt rude. When still the wrong bill arrived at our table, we asked for the service charge to be removed as actually the service and food had not been up to standard. Finally got the correct bill on the 4th go. Will definitely not be back after this! This was a second chance for Megan's - not just the Richmond branch. The last time, a number of years ago, we were at a different Megan's and the food was awful.

Utter disappointment, don't fall for the fancy meal descriptions

Ordered a "posh" lamb kebab expecting generous chunks of "overnight braised lamb shoulder" meat but was instead greeted with a ridiculously small amount of thin shredded lamb meat. Same with barely any feta and a small splash of harissa hummus squeezed over the top. There was nothing posh about this dish, it should be renamed "stingy" lamb kebab scam. Not worth the money at all, avoid. £20 for a wet piece of bread with barely anything on it. Never again.

Bad service from the Restuarant manager

This was my second time I went to Megan's in Dulwich in lordship lane. I turned up on Sunday 17 march at 12.30noon. The Restuarant manager on duty she was blonde wearing blue jeans and a blue and white shirt. She approached me before I can even open my mouth she said there are having a backlog of orders in the kitchen. The wait is 30min to 45min I said to her no problem. She said she will deal with me. She went to talk to The next customer who was behind me who had no reservation. That customer was white she immediately took the customer to sit down at a table. I was very upset and I walk out of the restaurant. I felt discriminated against. The last time I went there was male manager at the time he was very friendly polite. That was why I had visit there on sunday. The experience in received on Sunday 17 March 2025 was disgusting, that female manager was extremely rude to her team which i had briefly whiteness. She is unqualified, unprofessional, no customer service experience in managing any Restuarant. For the waybon how I was treated I won't be going back unless there is a new manager.

Dinner for six in Kingston branch

Dinner for six in Kingston branch. Lovely ambience and lovely service. However, I bit down into lamb kebab (overnight cooked special), to be greeted with a stone shaped piece of bone. Chipped molar / crown. This doesn't appear to be an isolated incident based on other reviews on this forum (see Belinda Tweg below 27th January). Offered my own food (not the table) and drinks for free from a very apologetic waitress / duty manager. Have since complained by phone next morning, and the matter is being investigated by an independent auditor. Head office will also be in touch. Certainly the chain seems to be doing what it can to investigate. So we will see. Looks like I will be spending a good amount of time with dentists this weekend.

Awful customer service

I know they don't take bookings on Sundays usually, so I emailed them to ask if this also applied for Mother's Day. I received and email back from the sales manager, Sophie to say they were walk in only until 3pm. So we went there this morning at 09:15 to try get a table, only to be told that they were fully booked... Extremely poor customer service.

What a shame!

What a shame!!
The food was awesome and the waiters lovely and attentive! HOWEVER…to be told we needed to move on having waited 45mins for our first course and spent over £140 for 2 adults and 3 children really put a dampener on it!
We sat at 11:30 order drinks which came and then ordered food. We waited over half an hour. The food arrived at 12:15! We were conscious of time because we had an 18month old who needed to be home to nap. We ordered ice cream for the children. WHILST I WAS STILL EATING
MY MAIN! We asked for the bill with drinks still to finish and paid. Nothing was said to us by the waiter who took our money. The manager approached and said they needed our table.
Totally spoilt the experience! If you’re not allowing enough time for 2 adults and 3 children to eat 2 courses (and only the children had ice cream) then I suggest
You need to rethink your timings! Or get the food out quicker!! Such a shame. Won’t be in a hurry to return. Seems your prioritising profit over customer

Manager at Battersea is RACIST. > Google reviews

Dear Megan’s Battersea Power Station Management,

I am writing to express my disappointment with the service provided by one of your managers during my recent visit to your establishment.

Upon arriving at Megan’s Battersea Power Station for the first time on 15/02/2024 approximately 19:10, my partner and I requested to move to a vacant booth after receiving confirmation from a staff member. However, within minutes, we were approached by the manager, whom I can describe as a Caucasian male, approximately 6ft tall with a beard, in a manner that was both passive-aggressive and belittling.

Despite our polite inquiry, the manager exhibited an unprofessional demeanor and proceeded to address us in a dismissive tone. His remarks, including "You guys can’t just move like that" and "he’s a runner," were not only unwarranted but also lacked any form of apology or explanation.

When I attempted to address the situation by expressing my concerns, the manager's response was confrontational and unapologetic. Instead of attempting to rectify the issue, he abruptly collected our menus and walked away, leaving us feeling unwelcome and disheartened.

As a frequent patron of various dining establishments, I have never encountered such blatant disregard for customer service and professionalism. The manager's behavior not only marred what could have been an enjoyable dining experience but also reflects poorly on the reputation of Megan’s Battersea Power Station.

It is my hope that this feedback will prompt a review of your managerial staff's conduct and lead to improvements in customer service standards. As a valued customer, I believe that every guest deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of the circumstances.

Thank you for considering my feedback. I trust that appropriate measures will be taken to address this matter and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Update: after reviewing a couple reviews on Google. I’ve come to the conclusion that the manager is probably RACIST!

There was a stone in my food

There was a stone in my food. The staff said it was ok as it was just a piece of bone. They offered no apologies or compensation. Don’t go there if you don’t want to break a tooth.

Above average food with mediocre service

21/01/2024: The first time we went to Megan’s @ TSO four months ago was an okay-ish experience. The food was above average, and the service could have been better although it was still acceptable. Our second visit today will surely be the last one. We were a table of five and throughout the meal, the quality of service was frustrating. Serving coffee without sugar, toast without butter, and missing out on ordered items were part of the overall Megan’s experience. All of this when the restaurant wasn’t crowded.

The staff were very trendy and chill. In fact, they were so cool that it was impossible to get their attention at all, as all of them just hung out near the central station and kept chatting amongst themselves. They were attentive to newcomers who had to be sat, and who’s order had to be taken or maybe, we were just not cool enough to deserve attention. We had to go ourselves to the central station thrice to get the missing items in our order.

Megan’s @ TSO isn’t a happy brunch place for us.

Went to Megan's in Wimbledon Village…

Went to Megan's in Wimbledon Village first time for breakfast and was very disappointed. Lovely looking restaurant but service was not up to that standard. Orders were delivered to wrong tables and our food arrived cold. Also, it is not a good value for the money at all. Megan's breakfast has 2 eggs, 1 sausage and 2 very thin/small dry bacon with some mushrooms cost £13. It comes with a sourdough bread not even a whole slice. I wouldn't go Megan's places ever again!
