I was recommended to see Dr Mo Akmal .
After years of back issues with chiropractors, Physio’s , acupuncture snd finally tens machine.
In the last six months the pain was excruciating every night and I couldn’t walk without limping !
I was recommended spinal lumbar fusion which was arranged within 3 weeks.
Immediately after surgery I felt better , no leg pain and my posture was amazingly upright , in fact within three hours from surgery I was eating a meal with my wife in the Marlybone fish restaurant , although I don’t recommend this !
On day one I went out for a mile walk with the dogs , by day 4 I’d walked 3 miles and on day 7 I was able to walk 8 miles , amazing .
I’m a keen cyclist and really wanted to get back to training , as of today 15 days after surgery I was able to train on Zwift ( a cycling ) without any adverse pain .

It took a lot for me to go ahead with the lumbar fusion but I can highly recommend Dr Mo , you can fully trust him and he’s got so much time to explain everything to you .

He’s the best spine surgeon you’ll get , don’t bother looking any further .

After suffering with back pain for most of my 20s, I am so happy I found Mr Mo Akmal. I had many years of misdiagnosis and never really felt my condition was understood. After my first consultation with Mr Akmal I felt like he understood me and I knew I was in safe hands. We went through all of my options and after a year of treatment, decided it was time for a L5/S1 Primary Posterior Lumbar Fusion with Instrumentation. The whole process was really easy and straightforward and I was able to leave the hospital the same day. The recovery period was tough at times, but I can honestly say so worth it. The difference it has made to my life is amazing. I am now 4 months post-op, I feel incredible and am back to normal daily life without back pain. After suffering for so long, I feel like a huge wait has been lifted and that is all thanks to Mr Akmal and his team. All of whom were incredibly professional and kind. I would like to give a special thanks to Mr Akmal and Dr Lok for the reassuring phone calls during my recovery period at home - I'm not sure if they realise just how reassuring they were. Having suffered moderate back pain for almost 2 years and severe pain for 3 months with many visits to chiropractors i discovered the London Spine Unit. At the consultation with Mr Akmal, he explained my mri scan, what was wrong with my back and what operation could be done. All as a day patient!!! On the day of my operation I struggled to walk from the nearby car park and yet just 7 hours later after a L4/L5 decompression/discectomy and dynamic stabilisation i walked out the door pain free. Quite amazing. That was 6 weeks ago and have been back at work for 3 weeks. I can not thank Mr Akmal and his team enough for giving me my life back. My only regret is that I didn't go and see Mr Akmal sooner. My whole experience with the London Spine Unit from start to finish has been fantastic. Thank you very much.

I have been a patient of Mr Akmal's at the London Spine Unit for four years now due to deterioration of disc and facet joints caused by congenital fusion of one side of L5/S1. The team have always given exemplary care and advice whilst we stepped through the conservative options (steroid injections, nerve radio frequency ablation). Due to further deterioration a Coflex device was fitted two months ago. I walked out of the day surgery and I am delighted with the results. The pain and stiffness has resolved. Dr Akhmal is by far the finest Dr i have ever met. I have suffered a horrific cervical spine injury due to a violent osteopathic correction that left me with
life changing neurological symptoms. Dr akhmal not only listened to my issues with great humility but also listened to my extensive research into the cause and correction of the injury. Dr Akhmal performed exacting prolotherapy treatments on me using dextrose and prp and my issues have drastically reduced allowing me to function again.I will be having more prolotherapy under
Dr akhmal to complete my return to full health.

I am thrilled with my L5/S1 discectomy operation that was performed by Mo Akmal and his team. Immediately after the operation I felt like a different person, no pain whatsoever on my back or right leg as if a mountain was shifted over from my back. To go home the same day and be able to sleep all night on my back without pain was almost a miracle to me after enduring more than two months of continues pain. I am writing this review 3 weeks after my operation and I feel great and I am actually going back to work next week.
I am very grateful to Dr Mo Akmal and his team. I absolutely recommend him to anyone with back problem. He preformed my surgery with just 1.5cm cut and he managed it without cutting any piece of bone on my back which means my bone structure stayed intact.
He also explained the surgery before the operation in a very clear and friendly way which helped me to understand it well and erased all my fears and concerns about deciding whether to do an operation or not.
I also want to commend his team including Dr Lok, Mr Kaleel Ahmad and all the nurses whom all were super friendly during my half day stay at Harley Street Hospital.

I was really please with the Mr Akmal and his team. They fully explained to me all of my possible options regarding my persistant disc pertrusion (18 months). I opted for a discectomy, which was successful and am currently pain free. On the day of my operation the whole team had an excellent bedside manner and I was made to feel very comfortable in the hospital.

Awesome service, very attentive, readily available and conveniently able to fit around personal commitments. Highly recommended for specialist spine care. Extremely clean and a very hygenic environment to be in. I've had two sets of spinal injections and a laser disc ablation. I have been under the care of Mo Akmal and he has been nothing short of amazing! Thank you for the amazing and friendly service.

Laser Cervical spine surgery
I received outstanding care from Mr Akmal and his team and would highly recommend them. After trying many non invasive treatments for relentless and debilitating neck and arm pain I was referred to The London Spine Unit. I received a swift diagnosis on my first visit of a C7 herniation and given a reassuring trajectory of possible procedures to relieve my symptoms. Since I had not responded to injections I opted for Laser Cervical Spine Surgery to remove the offending disc, which was performed as a day case. Following the procedure I walked out of the hospital with vastly improved symptoms, within a week I was pain free and 2 and a half months on I continue to feel great. I could not have been in more skilled hands, this is medicine at its best.

The London Spinal clinic was found on the net by my daughter in Australia who was not happy with the invasive surgery proposed by my local consultant. She wanted a state of the art treatment which was minimal invasive one day procedure. She found me Mr Mo Aktar, who was well recommended, charming and so helpful. He examined my MRI scan and proposed treatment. He explained that the procedure offered to me he would not recommend because it may weaken the vertebrae. He sent me a 32 page guide with detailed explanation of the recommended procedure which seemed to be cutting edge,
From my acceptance I was treated as someone very special with a quick date,
For the procedure with sedation local. I went home the same afternoon and was monitored with telephone calls from Dr Lon every day for 3 days, I had a review after 2 weeks and discharge after Six weeks. Following a nasty fall about eighteen months ago, I sustained the start of a very painful back, It started with pins and needles running up and down my right leg getting progressively worse. The pain became unbearable and after various visits to different professionals I decided to book a consultation with Mr Akmal after reading his testimonials which were all positive online. Mr Akmal was very helpful and put me at my ease immediately. I was very sceptical but felt very confident after talking to him for thirty or so minutes. He suggested three alternatives. Physiotherapy, steroid injections or surgery. Having been in severe pain for so long I decided to opt for surgery. I was admitted at 7.30am and discharged at 6.30pm the same day. I found the nursing staff very kind and professional and made me feel reassured because I was very apprehensive. I cannot fault my treatment. I am so pleased with my treatment there and I can say, without any hesitation that I am now out of pain. I would thoroughly recommend this hospital and also Mr M. Akmal.

I had a Balloon Kyphoplasty procedure carried out by By Dr M Akmal on the 14th June 2021. Dr Akmal was informative regarding the procedure, risks and everything involved. He is a diligent and caring surgeon. The recovery was quick and any after pain was managed by paracetamol and ibuprofen alone. All staff were professional, open and friendly. Sasha - Dr Akmal's secretary, was brilliant in assisting me prior to the procedure. Dr Yuin Lok assisted me post procedure with aftercare advice and follow up telephone consultations. The procedure was a success and overall I am delighted with the outcome and would recommend the London spine unit and all the staff involved in my procedure to anyone. I previously suffered with a dowager's hump (kyphosis) and have noticed a visible difference in my height and I appear to have regained 2 inch's in my height which has also helped with my breathing, digestion and posture.

After 4 years of pain and inability to walk far without sitting down to take pressure off my back and leg, Mr Mo Akmal carried out L4/5 decompression and dynamic stabilisation. The relief from the pain was immediate and I was able to walk up straight at last, pain free.
The whole process was really easy and straightforward and I was able to leave the hospital the same day. The difference it has made to my life is amazing.
Mr Akmal and his team were professional, friendly and kind at every stage. I have no hesitation in recommending their services.

I was suffering severe pain in my left leg; diagnosed by my GP as nerve related but no painkillers were having any real effect. Armed with an MRI, I saw Mr Akmal who said immediately that he knew what the problem was an recommended a surgical intervention as a guided cortisone injection would only provide temporary respite. The surgery recommended was the insertion of a small piece of titanium between the two vertebrae that were compressing the nerves going into my leg. I was advised that there were risks, although Mr Akmal's experience was that these risk were minimal. Surgery was arranged for the following week. I visited the hospital the day before the date arranged for surgery to have a number of pre-admission tests and all were fine. I came back the following day at 08:00 and was shown to a glass pod and changed for surgery. A local anaesthetic and sedation were administered and I was unaware of anything until I woke up shortly after the procedure. Within three hours of surgery I was walking, albeit somewhat gingerly and my wife collected me by car at 18:15 that evening to take me home. The nursing staff were very caring and helpful. I had clear instructions of what I needed to do in the two weeks after discharge and then saw Mr Akmal and his colleague 15 days later who inspected the wound from the surgery and said that they were satisfied with how I was healing. I would also mention that I had a phone call at from either Mr Akmal or a colleague to check on how I was doing and inviting me to call if if I was worried about anything every day apart from one for the six days after surgery. More importantly, the relief from the extreme pain was instantaneous. I am walking with a better posture and have had minimal soreness from the procedure. Overall, I would say that my experience was exceptional. I felt well looked after by a team expert in the issue and have immediate and a significant improvement in the quality of my life. There is, as I was told there would be, some residual discomfort from the nerve, which I am sure was in trauma and from the relevant muscles but this improves every day

I've just completed 3 months with Spine Central and set to continue. after using other Chiro's before I can't tell you how much of a level up this is. My overall health, posture and 'lack of back pain' have really opened me up to a better future. being a Dad of a young 3 year old, I can enjoy the time so much with my Boy. thank you Spine Central.

Mo Akmal & his team at The Spine unit were absolutely fantastic! My mother walked into the hospital in terrible pain & walked out a few hours later pain free ! She is 87 and now feels like 67 ! The attention she got was excellent I would highly recommend!

I have known Dr Akmal and his team for the past 8 years, I have seen him and his team ON and OFF for issues regarding my neck, C4/5, C5/6 , C6/7. I first had 3 lots of injections into this area back at the start of things. This helped me for 3 years. Dr Akmal did not want to operate at the time due to my age still been under 40 then. After 3 years I had to see Dr Akmal and his team again. We tried the injection route again but after a few attempts we then had to make the call to cut. I had C5/6 and C6/7 +/- C4/5 anterior cervical decompression and fusion / disc replacement carried out. This was a success and I was out of the hospital within 3 days and recovery took place for the next few months.

This year I was operated on the back of my neck for a posterior cervical foraminotomy on the left side at the C5/6 and C6/7 levels. We tried the injections last year but this did not help. Due to Covid to this should have been carried out last year. Dr Akmal explained the risks include nerve injury, dural tear and pain post-operatively but the procedure is fairly routine and the risks are relatively low.

Surgery has now taken place back in February. I was released the same day later that evening and been back for my check ups and things are looking up. I am currently training for a half triathlon that I will take part in second week of July. I am doing anything from 120 km to 170 km a week on the bike and running now upto 10 km a day on my running days. I have not been able to swim yet due to pools been closed but I have no issues with movement in me neck.

I am very happy I chose Dr Akmal from the start. I did seen two others before him, they were happy to just cut and not look at what was best for me. I also strongly believe the newer technology Dr Akmal uses has really helped me any my life style I lead with sports. I know I would not have had the same results if I did not take the route with Dr Akmal. It was a fantastic experience for my mother in law right from the beginning when she had her first appt with Mr Akmal and was recommended to have a spinal surgery. He has been fantastic, extremely helpful and professional in helping her understand her own condition and pros and cons of the surgery and support her through out the whole process.
