Continuous Card Declines

I have been a member of lighthouse credit union for many years. The branch staff are very friendly and very helpful. But when it comes to the after hours automated system, it is absolutely terrible.

I buy products online with my debit card, numerous times throughout the week.
My card is constantly declined on some websites and apps. I have plenty of money in my account to cover these transactions.
I then receive text messages from the bank asking me is this me and I reply YES!
Everything is fine for a bit and then my card continues to get declined, when you call the after hours automated banking tele system, it gives you zero option to talk to a real person, let alone figure out why your card is continuously being declined on a regular basis. It is beyond frustrating. I understand they are trying to protect their banking customers from fraud, but this happens to me every single week.

The Internet says this is the best bank in New Hampshire. I highly disagree.

I am beyond sick of this experience over and over. I honestly don’t care for a response by the bank either, telling me sorry for this experience, yada yada. Fix the problem.
It has been a problem for quite some time and multiple customers have complained about the same issues to no avail.

No longer a good credit union

As a member for the past 60 years, I can say that this was the best banking option in the area for many, many years. And then it changed when Chris Parker came in as CEO. All of a sudden members became a secondary concern while community involvement and publicity became paramount. The name change from Northeast to Lighthouse was done with no member involvement. Meetings requiring member input are held weekday afternoons when most members are at work. Loan rates, which were once better than any surrounding banking institutions, are now higher than most other banks.

I would not recommend this financial…

I would not recommend this financial institution. They were never great as Northeast to begin with. I banked with these fraudulent crooks for nearly a decade. Fees are not disclosed, they refuse to print your statement, they try to confiscate your passport card, my IRS refund disappeared into thin air. No explanation. Never have I been treated in such a disrespectful manner. I closed my account and after finding an institution I can trust I felt compelled to warn the community to avoid this Credit Union as if it were the source of the bubonic plague.

Go see Kelley Davis in Sanford, ME

If it wasn't for the branch manager, Kelley Davis, in Sanford, ME, I would have taken my business account elsewhere. My card was compromised, and when I was called about the fraud, only 1/3 charges was removed. I followed up with 2 more phone calls to Lighthouse, and the charges still were not removed. It wasn't until my husband went in person to see Kelley, that she had all the charges and fees removed immediately. She is worth her weight in gold! :)

LightHouse has very poor management..

LightHouse has very poor management... Additionally their financials are in extremely poor shape, which means your money is at risk.

Generally poor customer service

Generally poor customer service, any communication over the phone was really difficult. Lots of dropped balls...trying to figure out why my wife could no longer pay the auto loan bill electronically as she had been for years, hours of being on hold, transferred and talking to multiple people just to try and get paper statements, which never came to fruition even though I sent extra money to facilitate this. Missing payments because as it turns out they were sending notices to a electric account I'd never even opened, still unclear how that ever came to happen. Last but not least, they lose my title apparently because I never received it, they said they mailed it...and I'm told I'll need to go to the state and get a new title. Based on my experience choose a different credit union, can't see how this one will stay in business

Lighthouse dropped the ball.

Before changing to Lighthouse credit union I was a member for more then 20 years. They changed hands never notifies me or sent out new cards. Then wanted me to pay for the new card to be sent. Once I got my card I thought it was set up said everything was all set and card was activated. I attempt to use my card at the ATM only to have to call multiple times to have my pin reset and again nothing. I attempted in November to close my account and they failed to do so. In January I received notice I was overdrawn. I again called to confirm the account was closed in November. I’m December they allowed a withdrawal on a closed account and charge me. Now they say O have to chase down the funds for their incompetence. It’s been a nightmare to do business since Lighthouse took over. Such a shame because NECU and all the employees in Berlin are amazing local people who pride themselves on professionalism and integrity too bad the professional conduct of call center staff and follow through is horrible. Good luck to all the costumers who have accounts with them.

We communicated these changes through multiple emails and mail, marketing collateral and signage in our branches. We also sent new cards with instructions on how to activate, but it sounds like yours didn’t arrive—our apologies for the inconvenience with activation and account closure. Feeling Ignored

I made numerous communication attempts with Lighthouse including phone messages and emails. The employee who originated my account never returned my messages. After about 6 weeks, I finally connected with a wonderful employee who helped resolve the issue I was having in setting up my account.

Not Good

Joined my boyfriends accounts about a year ago and has not been a pleasant experience since. First, the lady at the counter had no idea how to simply add someone to an existing account and issue a debit card. In doing so, she disabled the existing joint owners card by accident so had to issue him a new one. Neither one worked and required several return visits. Next issue is the overdraft fees being charged on pending items that drop off, but the fee does not. My statements show numerous fees with a positive balance after the fee is taken so how can a overdraft fee be charge when the account is actually in the positive? Seems illegal to me but they continue the practice. Latest issue, mobile deposits and their junky mobile app. The app kept saying it wouldn't accept the mobile deposit because it didn't say "Mobile Deposit" which it clearly did, but I assume it just wasn't picking it up. Wrote out a whole new check and did it over only to keep saying it wasn't endorsed correctly when it clearly was. Checked my account balance this morning and now I have two deposits! I have no idea if one check went in twice or if it took both deposits, but either way the app repeatedly said it wouldn't accept the deposit. These were rather large deposits also. If I can convince my partner to move, I'm pulling out and going somewhere else.

Flagging a fraudulent charge and shutting my card off, gives me comfort knowing my money is safe with NECU.

My experience with calling NECU was extremely important to me because of 3 Fraudulent charges that you flagged on my account. Thank you so much.
Although I didn't know that my card was shut off until it was declined from Dunkin Donuts. Thank you for your continuous efforts to flag and decline scam/fraud charges.
