HEDDphone D1
Break-in almost done. I was expecting a great improvement over my beloved Philips Phidelio XR2. Actually the HEDD D1 sounds well balanced, tight and neutral, always 'in control', just a bit on the 'dry' side though. Soundstage is wide and instruments are very well focused with an excellent layering. Bass could be deeper, but is still good. In this regard the Philips feels more extended and airy, altohugh voices are somehow thinner and the overall presentation is less detailed vs the HEDD. Not a gigantic step ahead, but an upgrade for sure. Still to be tested on balanced output (just bought an aftermarket 4.4mm cable which is on the way). DAC used : IFI ZEN 3, SMSL DL200. Source: DSD and FLAC locally streamed via ALSA and JACK bit perfect servers (Linux OS).
