I paid $99 last year for what was marketed as a "Lifetime Reader Membership." Now, Leanpub has unilaterally "grandfathered" that into a "Legacy" product that excludes almost all actual value.

While I was promised lifetime access to the platform's library, they have since moved the goalposts by introducing a credit-based system. High-quality "Premium" content now requires monthly subscription credits, leaving "Legacy" members with a stagnant pool of mostly incomplete or abandoned "Free with Membership" drafts.

It is a classic bait-and-switch: they took the $99 upfront for "lifetime" access, then siloed all the content worth reading behind a new recurring paywall. Very disappointing behavior from a platform that used to be reader-friendly.

I've just started with leanpub, but so far, its been great. Easy to use, staff respond quickly. And free! What's not to like?

I published my book, JAVA - Methods of Teaching, on Leanpub last month and it started to sell in a few days. I like the platform in terms of being easy to use and with all the features in place to provide for a quality publishing experience. I had already designed my own cover and sent the book as a PDF file. Books can be published in progress with updates to follow. Once users purchase a book all future revisions are included.

As a self-published author on a LIMITED budget, when I discovered that I could publish my ebooks for FREE through Leanpub, I breathed a sigh of relief! Further investigation showed that Leanpub publishes in MULTIPLE EBOOK FORMATS which allowed me to reach beyond just Kindle readers!
