Friendly Environment
The gym in itself is very clean and not messy in terms of weights just being left everywhere . As a woman I feel comfortable as there aren’t weirdos who are constantly staring & everyone is friendly including staff . It isn’t always busy which I like because you aren’t just constantly standing around waiting to use any equipment or machines . Price is very reasonable also & id deffo recommend , 10/10

Great equipment
Great equipment, not having to wait about to use equipment, friendly staff great changing room and showers plus being open 24 hours helps can go to gym around my shifts

Appalling
No instruction given at recent Zumba class in Barnsley, as a newbie you are just expected to know what to do and the moves that are coming next, no warm up, no nothing, worst class I’ve ever been to in the 30 years of attending exercise classes.

The long opening hours are great
The long opening hours are great. There’s always machines / equipment available, I attend at 1045am everyday, so maybe it’s quieter then. Some of the padding on the machines is worn / old and it’s painful to lift the weights, particularly on the leg extension. Some of the machines are also squeaky and there are ‘pins’ missing on some machines so I have to take a pin with me to adjust the weights on other machines.
The other problem I have faced is there are no lockers to use unless I take my own padlock. There should be lockers available without having to take a padlock.

Been to gym this morning Friday 15th March 2024 at 2.30am. Having finished my gym session, I went into the men's changing room and it was an absolute mess. The floor was dirty, towel and rubbish on the floor & water bottles all over the floor also. There's no excuse for this. This is what happens when Rob isn't on duty. He's got the week off till the 19th of March, so let's hope it's not a mess again untill then

We are sorry to hear that you haven't been able to get through on the phone. It maybe worth noting that the busier periods are first thing in the morning and again at lunchtime. If you try to avoid those times, you should have no problem with getting through to the team.

A gym too small even in the morning is overcrowded. The parking lot next to the gym has damaged pavement.

For the price and equipment it is a good gym. Most of the times not too busy. Plenty of room as well.

Good and hazards
I love the space that there is but the car park is unsafe with all the pot holes and that it is not well light. Especially for those that go later on an evening. The machines are amazing. And the staff are friendly

Left a 3 star review here couple of months ago. Sadly now feel the need after yesterday’s visit to leave 2 star.
Main concern last time was dangerous state of the car park. This continues with an increasingly dangerous pot hole ridden car park. Added danger yesterday was all Car park and external building lights not working. Nevertheless got changed and went into men’s toilet area. Both urinals with signs asking not to use, the other toilet area resembled pub toilets on a late Saturday night on Wellington Street. Went to wash my hands to find only one of the three taps working, and this was cold water.
Look, as in my last review the gym and the staff are ok, it’s just (in my opinion) falling below the standards of safety and expectations that I would expect from a modern 2024 gym. I do use other jd gyms throughout Yorkshire that are way and above that standard of my home town Barnsley gym.
Come on jd gyms, your Barnsley members deserve better.
