I'm a hindustani classically trained…
I'm a hindustani classically trained singer-songwriter with very limited experience of western music and yet I really loved this course. For me, it was the process and structured approach of music creation that the coaches taught, made this course truly worth it. Would definitely recommend anyone who's looking to change or improve their music creation process.
Coaches fully support your process
I am a classical pianist by training, never had any formal training in composition. Nevertheless, after 6 weeks of course, I was able to finish two orchestral pieces! In this course, the students come from all different backgrounds, but the coaches meet you were you are, support you and encourage you in your very own creative process. I totally recommend it!
Amazing new kind of online course and community
I've joined the 6 week composing training course without a hesitation immediately after completing the 5 day composing challenge that was sort of a teaser put together by Inside the Score team. In my honest opinion, I think that this kind of course is a rare thing, not some ordinary online course. It's very well organized and thought through, and their team is diligently working every single day on making it even richer and more diverse experience. On top of that, the community of composers that joined the course is incredible, full of friendly and supportive musicians and composers from all around the world.
I really think that this was more than worth the price, and it has a great potential to become even more immersive and impactful experience, not just as a course, but as a fresh and fun approach to community building, broadening your perspective and developing new skills.
Highly rewarding program!
I initially attended his free introductory seminar for the Inside the Score program from an online ad. I was so impressed by Oscar’s professionalism that I had no hesitation whatsoever to sign up for the complete course. “Can I hear more?” is often the benchmark of a compelling speaker – and musician. Oscar was no exception.
As for what led me here, I joined Oscar’s program after several close personal losses. I have a background in piano, synthesizers, violin, theater, visual design, and photography. However for the last 30 years I’ve worked mainly in the corporate world, and wanted to refresh my foundational knowledge of music theory and analysis, modern tools, workflow, and sound design. Wow, was this the perfect solution!
The classes have all been so enlightening and rewarding! I tell everyone I can about them! From a practical standpoint, Oscar and his team make taking classes easy and convenient, with an online portal as well as live sessions with live team chats, and of course ongoing email updates and reminders.
The class participants are very supportive of one another and add an extra level of interaction. You can tell that Oscar and his team are eager to build a strong network and community of music professionals, over and above the educational aspects of the program.
Sessions are accessible to a variety of experience levels. Class participants come from diverse backgrounds and global locations, with musical tastes that are just as varied. Oscar explains both the conceptual and the practical aspects of music composition and production. He offers theory, practical knowledge, handy tips and techniques, as well as entertaining background stories.
The pieces he reviews for us are strategically selected to demonstrate the concepts he explains, such a technique, theory, mood or transition. He shows us how to organize workflows, stay motivated, correct common production errors, and stick with the process until completion.
Oscar is an outstanding presenter! He speaks clearly and at an efficient pace. He’s responsive to class questions and frequently asks for feedback on how each section was received. He allows time for interaction via questions to chats answered on video. He also is very responsive to emails if any questions come up along the way. Overall, Oscar and his team have gone well above and beyond expectations.
Five stars and highly recommend! You won’t be disappointed!
Excellent program!
An excellent program with concrete and clearly focused tasks. I think this approach can help anyone who wants to improve their compositional skills and improve their way of thinking, and perhaps thus adopt new methods that can be very useful in the compositional process.
The path to creativity
A course that clearly shows the paths to the creative process. I had never finished any idea I had, and I am about to finish a full piece. The material is presented in an extremely well-organized way, with the added bonus of biweekly masterclasses addressing and delving into certain topics. In addition to the material in the classes being excellent, and having the masterclasses, there is also enormous support from all the teachers and feedback on what we are creating. It is a course with a true purpose, and it is reflected in the results of the entire class.
A great way to kickstart your composing…
A great way to kickstart your composing journey
This course was an intensive learning process in 6 weeks that condenses the fundamentals and provides you with clear goal posts every week, while giving you extra resources to get a deep dive into specific topics you’re curious about.
Feedback comes quite quickly and is usually in a video format, and it was great at building a composing system for you to use long term. It’s great for people who wants to get a clear roadmap for composing instead of being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of materials and music theory you’d “have to learn”.
The community is also actively being maintained and feedback from us is always welcomed. Coaches are very friendly and I’d highly recommend it for people who has a bit of a music background and would love to get started on their composing journey.
Bust me out of a rut
I've been an amateur musician for 25 years, but I never managed to feel proficient as a composer. I had read loads of books on theory, composition, and orchestration, so I had all the knowledge, but it was in my head, not in my fingers. As a result I felt stuck and composing was something I wanted to do, but never got around to doing. I felt overwhelmed; there were a million things I could do, but I had no idea where to start.
This course provided me exactly what I needed: deadlines and objectives. Yes, the boring stuff. What I needed was somebody watching over my shoulder and prodding me to just do the work.
With the Internet, the problem is not access to information, it is the lack of curation. By presenting me with a method to follow with weekly objectives, I finally had a direction to focus my efforts, and six weeks later, after years of procrastination, I have a finished composition!
very good
this has been immensy helpful, i've written more music these 6 week than i ever would've imagined,
-the courses are simple and effective.
-the video feedback are an excellente way to improve and learn.
-the teachers are very knowledgeable, and give an excellent insight into the world of professional composing.
there are also resources that really dive deep into a specific subject if you ever need inspiration and many other things,
it is worth noting that there are some rough edges, sometimes, the tempo can be very exausting, and it is also pretty time-consuming, but i am sure these isssue will be fixed in no time by the team,
i highly recommend this course for anyone who need direction and motivation for their musical journey,
From songwriter to orchestrator…
Though I have been a songwriter for many years, I needed a boost in how to write orchestral music. The techniques and approach taught in this course have given me a methodology for structuring my workflow in a DAW and notation software. I’m eager to apply these methods in my songwriting, as well.
A Transformative Experience in Musical Writing
Th 6 Week ' Inside The Score' musical program was more than just an educational journey—it was a transformative experience that reshaped my understanding of musical writing on a profound level. Going in, I expected to learn some new techniques and perhaps refine my skills, but I left with something far more valuable: a new perspective.
The coaches played an instrumental role in this transformation. Each one brought a unique voice, not just in terms of musical style, but in how they approached the creative process. What stood out most was how they emphasized emotional authenticity and storytelling as the heart of music. For years, I had focused on structure, rhyme schemes, and technical prowess. But the coaches encouraged us to dig deeper—to write from a place of truth, vulnerability, and boldness.
Their feedback was both challenging and affirming. They didn’t just correct notes or rhythms—they asked questions that pushed me to think about why I was writing a piece, what I wanted to communicate, and who I was as an artist. This introspective approach helped me break through creative blocks I didn’t even realize I had.
One of the most impactful moments for me was a session where we deconstructed a simple melody and rebuilt it using different emotional lenses. It was there that I truly understood how intention and nuance can transform a song from something pleasant to something unforgettable.
I walked away from this program not only as a better musician but as a more conscious writer. The coaches didn’t just change how I write music—they changed how I think about music.
I’m incredibly grateful for this experience and would highly recommend it to anyone serious about evolving their voice in musical writing. It’s not just about learning notes and lyrics—it’s about learning yourself.
Thanks to - Oscar, Isaac, Jonathan and Eva.
Well constructed program and awesome coaches
Amazing 6 weeks of full on musical experience from how to build a template to how to studying scores and model them in your compositions. The weekly feedback given was constructive and transparent. All the lessons were clear and succinct.
The coaches are very knowledgeable and very passionate about music and teaching. I recommend this experience to those who want to improve their musical, technical and composing skills.
Enjoyed the program
Really enjoyed the course. I would recommend it for people who are already somewhat comfortable composing, but who want to (1) refine their workflow and (2) get feedback from professional composers. I feel like I was exposed to a lot of valuable info, not just from the course itself but in response to questions from participants.
I love this course!!!
I took the Composer Training System course and can not recommend it enough! The course was intelligently designed and very well organized. The curated team of coaches was amazing and brought so much value to the teachings, community forum, and personalized feedback. This experience has motivated me to create pieces and expand my musical wheelhouse. Some courses give you the bare minimum, and I can confidently say this one over-delivered—in the best way possible! If you want to up your composer game, this is the course to take.
A very good course, no doubt about it!
The content of the course is awesome. All questions find answers. The commitment and Oscar's - founder of the course - contagious energy! The enthusiasm and the dedication of the team.
Boost Your Skills and Confidence as a Composer!
Oscar and his team of music educators have crafted an amazing learning experience for aspiring composers. I did not have much experience with composition going into the course, but I have come out of it with so many ideas, resources and tools for creating my own original music. Over the length of the course, I was able to take my musical ideas, sketch them, develop and orchestrate them and finally mix and produce a track I'm proud of. Music composition and production is really a craft that needs to be practiced, much like learning an instrument. After studying with The Composer Training System by Inside the Score, I can now use what I've learned to further develop my music making skills.
Through lecture videos, zoom classes, and personal coaching, the 6 week course teaches you to study and model works from your favorite composers, like John Williams and many others. You will learn how to generate musical ideas, by starting a Creative Journal. Later, you will take those small fragments and learn to develop them into a piece with structure. After you finish your sketch, you will begin to orchestrate your piece and start to see your work take shape. Once you finish your orchestration you can learn to make it sound even better through useful mixing techniques. If you have the chance to join a course from Inside the Score I highly recommended it. You will learn so much and leave feeling inspired to continue making music that you love.
I highly recommend this program
I highly recommend this program for any composer who wants to learn a systematic approach to composing, all the while respecting one’s own creative voice. All the teachers are outstanding, and they provide excellent feedback on the compositions submitted at various stages. The lessons are extremely clear and full of valuable information, and the coaches are available to answer questions. I was not composing much anymore, and this program has allowed me to start writing again and given me tools to be able to move forward with my compositions without getting stuck. Overall, the program has delivered what was promised, and even more!
Starting with the Music you love and want to make
I love music. I have a voracious appetite for any music I can get my ears around. I also want to know how it all works.
So, I’ve, taken a few courses, watched some videos, done some singing. It felt like the composing thing was a secret society. I’ve always wanted to write a tune or two.
When I discovered a high energy, passionate musician named Oscar with his video blogs and this course I had a deep sense that this was what I wanted. His authenticity was palpable so I knew I wouldn’t be underwhelmed.
During the first session, he’s talked about musical ideas, listening to the music you love, finding out why you love it, and how you could produce some of it too. He was so confident of this, I found myself believing it too. But then I thought, “He can’t keep this high energy level and focus all the time.”
I was wrong.
It’s a small community. Oscar and staff are at your side giving feedback on your work. There is a foregone conclusion that in the end you’ll have a piece of music of your own that came from inside you.
They listen to, and mark up every submission with comments and suggestions. Always encouraging through examples and bonus sessions “under the hood” as they say, the course evolves through the community interaction. While spread broadly, the community feels personal and welcoming.
Your eventual piece of music starts and ends with what you love about music. I’ve never had that kind if in depth attention on what I’m trying to do. How can you not try this?
It will probably be scary at first. You are submitting your work apologetically (in my case) to successful professional musicians. And yet, they treat your music as if it will become a symphony or film score. You’re somehow a colleague with them.
They really want this for you. Who are you to deny them an audience?
The most important part for me is to have permission to try, to light your musical fires, to sing.
Go, do this. Jump into Oscar’s world. Your song needs to be sung and heard. It is unimaginably life-changing.
Highly Recommended!
Oscar and the team are not only knowledgeable, they have huge enthusiam for the subject matter and a real desire to pass this on to their students. The materials and support they provide are all top notch. Highly recommended!
A serious and methodical approach
Passion, knowledge and dedication! A serious guide for aspiring composers, shaped with care and patience. Professional material and constructive feedback, high quality oriented. It was an amazing journey of musical enrichment and I highly recommend it!
