Preexisting condition = coverage denial

I'm not sure how it is legal, but this company denied me coverage because/c I have an autoimmune thyroid disease. I pay about $5 out of pocket for my generic levothyroxine each month and have an ultrasound once a year. Not sure how this even really qualifies as a significant expense for the insurance, but mostly it is illegal to deny on preexisting conditions.

Solo is a form of business insurance. When a business applies to join, it establishes its own self-funded health plan. That means any expected claims must be supportable within the total projected cost for that business. Underwriting decisions aren’t personal, they’re based on whether the business can sustainably fund its plan over time.

That said, underwriting isn’t always black and white. HBG (which operates Solo) can appeal decisions directly to Vault (the carrier) Underwriting, and exceptions are sometimes made based on additional review.

Great alternative to expensive marketplace insurance in NYC.

I was skeptical at first. But when I got a quote from HBG Solo, it was literally HALF of what I'd been paying for the cheapest plan available on the New York State Health Exchange. So I decided to give it a shot, and about 8 months later, I'm so glad that I did!

I had a couple issues with the claims for my annual physical at OneMedical and associated lab work, and Allison personally made sure that my claims got updated and re-processed. By far the best service I've ever gotten from an insurance company.

Can't recommend solo enough

Can't recommend solo enough! Its a real PPO at reasonable rates. My area had zero, literally zero, Doctors in network with my previous plan, best we could get was a nurse practioner seeing patients. But solo got me access to the doctors I know and trusted when I had major corporate health insurance. I basically wasted my money with the other insurance and now I'm getting tremendous value. They had an extremely ambitious launch and while there were hiccups the team all the way to the CTO himself were extremely responsive. The best part is when you zoom out, the tiny glitches on the website don't matter cause now I can rest assured knowing my family is covered just as well as if I still worked for a top tier corporation. That's what matters.

a much-needed lifeline for freelancers

As a freshly minted solopreneur, there is a slew of uncharted administrative duties to work through. Healthcare was the last one looming and I had been scrolling with dread through state and private websites trying to find something that didn't consistently cost an arm and a leg. When a friend suggested I look at Freelancer's Union for resources, I was so relieved to find something more affordable. I felt it might be too good to be true, since I couldn't find many online reviews. I booked a consultation call with Kylie and she allayed my fears, explaining that the company is quite new while outlining all their qualifications and answering all my questions. It is so refreshing to have simplified options paired with responsive customer service to demystify such an otherwise confusing marketplace. The policies are a perfect fit me, being healthy and on a budget, but still wanting regular checkups and enough of a safety net for emergencies. Enrollment was easy and painless - looking forward to seeing how well the plan works!

Easy to do business with.

Brian was awesome. I reached out via email regarding a billing issue and he helped me right away. I was wondering how responsive they would be by email, and I received a response early the next business day! I am happy with my relationship with Solo Health.

I've been a member of Solo for a coming…

I've been a member of Solo for a coming on for two years now! It has been a great experience generally, it has reduced out monthly costs a lot and given us a wider network of providers to see. I also love how it is HSA eligible. It basically works like any other high deductible plan but it costs a lot less.

HBG Solo - The best around!

Solo Health is the best! As an entrepreneur, I have always had trouble finding the right health care team. Until I found HBG. Strong Support Team and Assistance Navigating Healthcare

Health insurance always felt so confusing to me! As a freelancer/small business owner finding adequate coverage has always been difficult. Solo Health Collective made everything easy to understand, and what really stood out was how far their team went to help. I cannot say enough good things about the team, especially Kylie. They even called my doctor directly to confirm coverage. Using Solo Health Collective was nothing less than a superb and smooth experience! An extremely diligent level of care and attention

I am a solo business owner and had to find new insurance for myself this year. My previous premium had shot up and it was too much for me to easily afford. I did some research and found out about Solo Health via a Reddit thread. However there was not a lot of information about it available.
I took a shot and book an intro call and made a list of questions about care/premiums and all of the gnarly things involved in picking new insurance.

I tried to book an appointment with my PCP but because of the way that the medical/carrier system operates Solo Health and the carrier were not showing up in the system. A representative from Solo Health immediately*** jumped on the case and has been working diligently to get the issue solved for me - as well as providing me daily updates on the issue.

From the beginning the level of communication has been very personal, attentive and extremely responsive -- I am super thankful for the help!
