We have been buying meat from Grid Iron…
We have been buying meat from Grid Iron since lock down, when one of the restaurants listed them as a supplier to support. The quality of the meat always blows our mind, so much better than anything you can get at a buchers in London. When we want a treat or to cook a great meal we make sure to do an order with Grid Iron. The deliveries though have gone a bit downhill ever since they switched to DPD as DPD just leave the meat at the door without even ringing the doorbell. This has happened to us twice now.

They followed my request to don't send me pork organs fat what i really really appreciate and 100% i will become a loyal client because other companies doesn't have the option to let a demand or note on their order. It wasn't as tender as the first one we bought. The cross section wasn't round (barrel shaped) as a centre cut usually is, it was more triangular. It didn't seem to cook evenly. (Don't know whether that gives you a clue)??? Your thoughts would be very much appreciated. We still intend to return for a Christmas fillet.

You're absolutely right to notice a difference, and your comments are really useful. Unlike supermarket meat, our native breed beef isn’t always as uniform in shape or texture – especially with cuts like the centre-cut fillet. These animals are slower grown and naturally varied, so you’ll sometimes see differences like the triangular shape you mentioned. It’s not unusual, and doesn’t affect the quality, but it can mean the cooking needs a bit of adjustment.
That said, we totally get how that can catch you off guard, so thanks again for flagging it. If you're planning ahead for Christmas, let us know – we’re more than happy to talk through options or help you get the perfect fillet for your plans.

The mutton rack was absolutely lovely
The mutton rack was absolutely lovely. If I were cooking it again however, I wouldn’t use the instructions given on the website.
I would score the fat and render it on the hob, then roast in the oven.

Without exception, the meat was well butchered and very tasteful. The pork back fat I purchased rendered down perfectly to produce a most wonderful pure lard.

Two recent orders of trad sirloin and rib eye both full of flavour and tender as! As an experiment, I purchased another sirloin from a recognised premium local butcher today and compared. Perhaps with the delivery charge GIM works out a little more expensive, but I'm more than happy to pay...there was no comparison.
As a repeat purchaser, I also recommend the Old Fashioned Smoked streaky bacon, thick cut and rind on, it really is old fashioned. Would prefer a heavier smoke if I had to be critical.
