Nonsense and ridiculous

My son got homework, so we needed access to the voice materials referred to from his English workbook. We registered on the website and entered the access code, which was successfully accepted. However, the course was not made available for us. Reached out to OUP support and they said it takes 7-10 business days to enable the access to the voice materials. This is nonsense and ridiculous. We purchased the book and access to the course materials, my son has homework now and not two weeks later. No words, terrible company. I will discourage everyone to buy any books from them.

Terrible company

Terrible company. I ordered a textbook on the 7th of October and was told it would be roughly 3-5 working days for delivery. On the 11th I had heard nothing about it even being dispatched so I sent an email enquiry which received an automatic response that they aim to reply within 36. Over a week later I had heard nothing more so called their customer service number and was told it had been dispatched and a delivery had been attempted on the 9th. I was home all day that day so that was a lie as no one had attempted a delivery and usually deliveries will be left in the lobby of the building I live in anyway. I had also received no communication of the dispatch. I was then told it was waiting in their post office for me to collect after I paid £5.50 delivery which they refused to refund when they clearly have not attempted to deliver it to me.

Illegal Money Extortion

So we purchased four English File Teacher's Guides with Teacher's Resource Centre, for various different levels.

The rear covers clearly stated that for teachers the Classroom Presentation Tool is included. However, it was not clear how to get this to work, so we contacted OUP support. We were eventually told that to get an access code, to allow us to gain access, we were required to purchase 10 copies of the student book! I consider to be, not only dishonest but also in breach of consumer law, extorting an extra £400-500.

Under protest we did this but once we sent the Amazon invoices we were then told that Amazon was not on their (invisible) list of approved vendors, so they would only give us 3 months access!

How they can impose such a condition, especially after you have purchased and stay within anti-competition laws is quite frankly a mystery to me.

What a bunch of nasty, money grabbing extortionists!!! An absolute disgraceful company.

We are raising this with Trading Standards!

Absolutely the worst customer service I've seen in years

UPDATE: It's been three months and I still haven't received the book or my money back!

Absolutely the worst customer service I've seen in years. It's been six weeks since I've been waiting for a delivery. All the responses I receive seem to be AI-generated, with varying reasons and versions of what has happened. It always takes ages to receive any answer, and it's always from another person (or 'person', I assume that's just a chatbot), who claims another thing happened. I'm wondering what body I could lodge the complaint with to have this resolved...

Awful experience start to finish.

Returned some items but their service was down so they’ve provided me with a return label to print off myself. I have printed it and sent it. There is proof of delivery and a picture showing it’s been delivered but they are saying they haven’t had it…

No customer service. They don’t reply all week and then give useless responses on a Friday afternoon and then you have to wait all week for another one…

ISSUES DO NOT ARRIVE IN USA

07 June 2024 I paid over $1,000 for a 1 year subscription to a professional journal from OUP. I have had endless misery getting the issues sent to me from the UK to the USA. The issues either never arrive or arrive 90 days after publication. Sometimes OUP will bundle up missing issues and send them by DHL shipping and I get them in less than 1 week. Otherwise when shipped in their usual manner, it is misery. I have had 40 emails with them in less than 6 months. This is has not solved the problem. I recommend you not order print issues from them. I do not know about electronic issues.

Superb customer service …

Superb customer service going way beyond what I would have expected. I had a problem with a purchase I had done through Amazon and OUP addressed the issue.

Pessimo servizio clienti per gli acquisti on line

Ho ordinato una decina di spartiti. Mi hanno annullato l'ordine senza comunicarlo neanche attraverso una mail. Lo sono venuta a a sapere solo rientrando nell'account. Una volta rientrata nell'account, ho chiesto aiuto alla chat help on line, che mi ha dato come motivazione una non ben precisata restrizione , un numero di telefono di chi si dovrebbe occupare di vendere quegli spartiti in Italia (numero a cui nessuno mi ha mai risposto) e un link dove non ho trovato ciò che cercavo. Consiglio di aggiornare il sito di modo che una volta che uno non può ordinare da un dato paese, non lo faccia ordinare (e quindi scalare importi dalla carta di credito, altra scocciatura dover aspettare il riaccredito, etc)

worst company - do not use!!

Like all of the other reviews say - this is the worst company ever - no customer service and they dont seem to care. Have sent them repeated emails requesting text and resources and they remain ignorant and refuse to reply.
Am cancelling my textbook orders and am done with this rude incompetant poor excuse for a company.

This website is HORRENDOUS

This website sucks, the people working on it sucks, wasn't able to access my online textbook and the customer service was terrible. Someone needs to be arrested and have the key thrown away for running a scam operation like this.

This is the worst online service I have…

This is the worst online service I have ever encountered and the OUP is completely useless. I have been trying for 1 month to access a digital version of a book purchased and to no avail. The people in the law reader dept just keep sending me the same login link even though I keep telling them it does not work. I instructed them to call me at a set time, they did not, they have not apologised, they have not tried to assist me - they KEEP sending me to the same link ... which does not work. SO much for intelligent academics eh? Wileys direct is so much better... I have now tried to start an official complaints process - I guess that will even take them days to respond to --further the number on the website was out of service.

As an online student

As an online student, I have been required to locate dozens of online peer reviewed academic resources every week over the last four years, and OUP is the first search result, far outside of my personal budget, and not available to my US based university. It would be immensely helpful to either have the ability to filter their publications out of my search results, or if they could use some of the money they spend on Google SEM/SEO toward making their articles available to indebted students that need the content to obtain a degree. I certainly don't trust an organization that seeks profit over advancing the wellbeing of the humanity about which its database's article writes.

Profoundly disappointing

My experience with customer service has been profoundly disappointing. I've been endeavoring to renew my subscription to the Oxford English Dictionary online, but the website's software seems to be malfunctioning. Despite my repeated attempts, I continue to receive an error message indicating that the login has failed.

In order to eliminate potential user error, I reset my password to ensure that my username and password were both correct. However, this step did not rectify the issue - even after successfully resetting my password, I was still unable to log in. I've tried accessing the site through various browsers (Google, Safari, Firefox), and even attempted to use my Android smartphone, all to no avail.

Furthermore, my attempts to reach out to customer service have proven fruitless. Despite numerous calls, each ending with me leaving a message in the hope of a callback, I've received no response. My emails also appear to be falling on deaf ears. This issue has been ongoing for several months now, which is utterly unacceptable.

The subscription I'm endeavoring to renew amounts to GBP 100.00, not a trivial sum by any measure. The lack of attention to my problem and indifference to my potential business lead me to conclude that their profit margins must be substantial to afford such disregard for customer service.

Worst Educational Company I’ve Ever Dealt With

I would never recommend anyone purchase from this publisher directly. Customer support truly is abysmal. I was hoping these other reviews would turn out to be wrong, but I have had more or less the same experience! If you must obtain any of OUP’s well-recognized and high quality content, then I’d urge you to purchase from a second hand source as I am going to do after being put through the ringer. I originally contacted the publisher in order to place a large volume textbook order for multiple series as an educator. I was given the go-ahead initially, but it ended up taking many many emails sent back and forth with me having to remind the company weekly to not forget about the order I wanted to place as I was left in the dark while also being passed around from employee to employee. At one point, I was specifically told to call their phone line for orders in order to place mine and after waiting for over a half an hour, the gentleman I spoke with ended up being extremely condescending and rude towards me from the moment he picked up the phone which left me in a state of shock by the time the call was over. He refused to answer any of my questions for clarification when he was demanding my account number and even though he repeatedly kept asking for it, he made a point to keep ignoring my inquiry on how to locate this information. Other than that single demand, he would only tell me that I should never have been told to call in in the first place and in the end gave me the contact information of yet another person within the company to contact. Eventually, after weeks I finally received email confirmation that they had placed and finalized my order, and I was asked me to pay. I replied back as soon as that email which I had been waiting for for so long arrived in my inbox, and I asked them about how I should proceed and pay as they did not provide me with any online links; there was no trace of any orders when I signed into my Oxford account or any kind of billing address whatsoever provided to me in order to send money to. They also divided my order into two greatly uneven parts which were supposedly placed on different dates without providing me with the full itemized list of what I had ordered (initially I ordered everything all on the same date, mind you) which I also inquired about as it seems likely that another careless mistake was made yet again in regards to putting together my order. To this very day, about two weeks later this final email and inquiry of mine on paying and the contents of my order has gone completely ignored once again. I am not going to remind this company once again that I exist. This is completely irresponsible and totally unacceptable treatment from them when the cost of the items that I am ordering is nearly 3K. I’ve paid pennies and yet have received thousands of times better customer support from practically every other company out there. I’ve only had good experiences with all kinds of educational companies up until now, so the fact that my first negative experience was with OUP and “Oxford” of all well-looked up to ‘brand names’ out there is truly surprising and not something I was anticipating in the slightest. It’s clear that this company does not value me as a customer or an educator from this experience and I fear that if they miraculously were to one day end up remembering that I existed and finally provided me with their method of payment in order for me to pay and finalize my order, then from that point on, if there was any problems with shipping or if they messed up and included the wrong or missing items, they wouldn’t put any effort into helping to resolve it. And most certainly they would probably just ignore my request for a refund too. For this very reason, perhaps at the end of the day, it’s truly a good thing that I was never given the opportunity to actually pay for the order they claim was ready for payment. If you end up dealing with this publisher, best of luck to you and I pray you don’t end up going through any kind of similar experience.

Terrible service

I have to say that 1 star is too much for this company. I have been trying to purchase online manuals as the hardback books are not helpful when dyslexic. I have made contact via online chats many times being placed on hold for up to an hour. When they do get in touch they offer free access while they sort the problem however the access is not set up. When I call the customer services the phone gets cut off or get given another number to ring and leave a message which is not returned with any call back. I would not use this company if it was not for the fact that its the only company who supplies the products. I am still without the products and time is ticking for an exam I have to study for without the materials..........Not good at all

I had a hard time giving them one star

I had a hard time giving them one star. Ordered Oxford Picture Dictionary for use in our ESL classes and have tried for a month to get the teacher's manual. Was told it was not printed but we could purchase online access to the teacher resources. After being transferred multiple times, sending numerous emails, being promised 5 min responses, etc, etc, etc I have given up the chase. Still no teacher's manual. I have had it - we will not order from them again.

Oxford University Press American Headway second edition Teachers book and RESOURCE CENTER

Over the years I bought 4 complete sets of American Headway second edition, plus books for my students. Just the sets cost around 600. The teacher's book, student book and workbook. The teacher's book came with a code at the back of the book to use the TRC (TeacherResourceCenter) with a website at oxfordtrc, used for interactive teaching. I have used it for years. However, in 2019, I had issues. I was not able to open the site, because it was parked on GoDaddy. I contacted the Digital Resource Person and after much delay, OUP got it up again and stated that "others" had problems too. Then April of 2021, I tried to use it again to no avail. After literally 50 emails, I was told that the site was decommissioned and during these emails with all my screenshots, they started to take out the link of the teacher resource center and replace it with a Teacher's Site. I was offered the 3rd edition, thinking it was the same, but it was not. It had few resources and needed a lot of registration for my students and myself and offered only 1 video and listening, none of the other resources from the second edition were available, which OUP is STILL promoting. They story goes, why fix something that is not broken? It troubles me that we pay for books, that include a service and then that service is stopped. Secondly, what is worse, is that OUP is still promoting American Headway second edition on their site here- American headway second edition level 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 stating all the resources for the teacher's resource center that do not exist. Additionally, all over the internet you can find this edition for the teacher's book clearly showing the white circle on the book for the teacher's resource center. Amazon and many other book depositories even in the UK are still selling the teacher's book. Some for hundreds to thousands of dollars, if you dig a bit. Totally unethical and just bad business. Don't confuse the Teacher's Resource Center with Teacher's site lower to the right, which was the youtube video showing how to access the site. Here - it clearly shows the teacher's book WITH the white circle stating the resources available. Can’t include links on this review but you can search amazon for american headway teacher's book level 4, which is purple or any of the other levels. Plus american headway 2nd edition on youtube, which is now a private site.
On this site it states this, which is no longer available, but still being promoted by OUP and those that have bought multiple levels are left out in the dark. -Now, American Headway Second Edition adds a new generation of digital support to that classic methodology. If you check out on amazon for the purple level 4 teacher's book the publication is in the year 1657, yes, you read that correctly and is being sold for as much as $569 dollars but with no actual resources! Really?! This is absurd. Bad business OUP. I even called customer service in the states in NC and the representative was not aware that the AHW ditigal resource center was no longer available. When I said I was going to file a complaint, he and the person from the UK, never responded again. Shameful.

Again, here stating on the oup site for this edition states -Top of the list of new resources is the Teacher Resource Center.

It's a password-protected bank of online resources which includes images, animated grammar PowerpointRG slides, video, worksheets, and more.

Find out more at American Headway Second Edition also includes a new emphasis on testing to help students prepare for standardized international exams such as the TOEFLRG iBT. This includes new Spotlight on Testing lessons in the Workbook and access to a complimentary online practice test via the Student Multi-ROM. I am marking the box to let OUP know of my complaint. I have all the screen shots showing that the TRC were removed and more. I am filling this review with hopes that someone will put a stop to this and or file a consumer report. I tried to in the UK as many book stores too are still selling this edition, but the agency said I could not because I did not live in the UK. I know that there was a law about 5 years ago stating that buying a product with digital services included, but if the provider did not continue those services, it is against the law.
