If I was able to rate less than one…

If I was able to rate less than one star, I would.

I purchased a (Generac) Coleman Powermate 5000 years ago. I didn’t need to use it until Hurricane Ian. I ran the generator for two weeks after. When I did maintenance on the generator I found that there was NO air filter and the housing unit was full of black gunk.

Since October of 2022 I have called six times. I have NEVER received an apology. I was promised a “maintenance package valued at over $100” which I still have not received.

I have spoken to Carly, Sandi, Don, Rob, Lisa, and Supervisor Dominique who was the most rude of anyone I dealt with. Her solution is to spend $200 to have the generator inspected and I might “possibly” be reimbursed.

Wish I would have read all the one star ratings before I purchased.

I will do my best to post on as many social media sites as possible so that others don’t make the same mistake.

Horrid equipment with even worse warranty service…

Horrid equipment with even worse warranty service. Our battery storage for PV system has malfunctioned for a year now. The technician worked with Generac to remove the equipment they thought was faulty and send it in for warranty repair. It took them months to repair it and then they argued about how to ship it back to us for reinstallation. They should have just sent us a new piece.
After all that, the replaced equipment still doesn't work and technician can't come out for many days if not weeks.
Absurd service

As a former generac dealer for 22 years…

As a former generac dealer for 22 years it's not the company I signed up for. I seen it go from wantto help build good product and take care of there customers and dealers not now started down hill in 2008 they all about there self the evil money quality has also gone down hill well its never been quality generac. as a repair dealer only ones getting rich is grnerac and installers and repair . the generator are poor quality. my rant to generac I hope you wake up it's not about you and money. I am a Bragg and Stratton dealer now.

Ordered a Generac Generator (Whole…

Ordered a Generac Generator (Whole house 24kW Guardian) after installing my first issue was the battery was bad, (leaking) replaced that and tried generator again. Worked great for 10 minutes until it threw a code "underspeed" #1600 and called Generac. They were fairly quick to answer. We went over the code and they said to call a local authorized repair person. Only, turns out despite having a warranty on a brand new generator the consumer has to pay the "authorized" repair/dealer. Which I had known that before hand. Brand new generator and have to pay over $400 to have someone come look it and possibly fix it. Great. Stay away from these folks. Not a good experience.

18KW catastrophic engine failure after 15 minutes of runtime

I bought a 18KW standby generator through a licensed Generac dealer who is by no means at fault in anything that happened to me. They did an excellent job installing the unit for me. The unit ran fine for 5 minutes after install to make sure there were no issues and after that ran through 2 excersize cycles within the next 2 weeks. After the second cycle i had 2 alerts on my phone in red (never good) I called my dealer and they sent out a tech who comfirmed that the engine was shot, no up and down movement on either cylinder, so basically the rods or pistons were disconnected from the crank and ruined the motor. Two weeks later they installed a new engine that they received from Generac, it was sad looking at my $11000 (total cost) generator all tore apart on my lawn in a bunch of parts, it doesn't even feel like a new unit to me anymore. The issue is that Generac does not care about their customers because upon contacting them about the issue and requesting that i wanted them to replace the entire unit it was nothing but a brushoff directing me to people who dont care. The right thing to do was replace the unit and not repair it because it was put on the truck at their Wisconsin factory because an employee there didn't care about his work. This is 100% human error and this unit is proof of it. Generac does not care about it's customers when needed. I found that out talking to them and giving me the same story which was that the unit is now running so there you go. If this happened a year down the road i would be ok with it. Im sure there are many people out here that have good luck with their generators but if you are one of the one's that isn't good luck dealing with their customer service because they could care less on what you have to say. If i could go back in time i would look for a different brand 100%. Shame on you Generac.

Absolutely horrible company. ZERO customer support.

The Generac whole house generator saga will seemingly never end for us.
- Bought original Generac Synergy whole house generator in 2016. Total cost of all materials and labor $12K, which included a 500 gallon propane tank, and 120+ foot gas line.
- The unit began throwing an error code 1062 whenever we lost power, and that code could not be cleared so the generator could be run again until the grid power came back on. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a generator, wouldn't you say? It turns out that this is a fatal design flaw with the Synergy model, but Generac refuses to recognize that.
- Generac told our service dealer of the time which parts to try replacing, but told him that he would have to pay for the replacement parts out of pocket if it didn't fix the issue. Needless to say, no parts got replaced, and we were forced to continue with the error and loss of use of our generator over the course of 5 years.
- Then our service guy had health issues and had to retire, and then covid hit. We were left with no service support.
- When I called Generac to finally get this straightened out, they told us we would have to pay to have a new Generac service company come out and run a "diagnosis" on it. When I clarified why that wasn't going to happen, I got passed along to no less than four different customer support reps before getting one who wanted to handle the case.
- Generac paid more money to swap out various parts in the Synergy than it would have cost to simply replace it. So of course they wasted yet more money.
- They finally agreed to replace our Synergy with a "new" Guardian model.
- Unit was installed and immediately failed with low oil pressure.
- Instead of sending us another replacement, they insisted on making us wait for them to order and have installed a brand new engine. So now we were with NO generator instead of the previous one that we could sometimes piecemeal during an outage.
- The process of swapping in the new motor was NOT trivial. After seeing the complexity of it, I would have preferred yet another whole new generator.
- Fast forward to Christmas Eve day. We had lost power the day before, and the generator kicked in, and we felt like we could finally enjoy some piece of mind from our big investment. I want out to check on it and came to find ALL of the motor oil drained out into the cabinet of the unit. The dipstick read ZERO oil in the block. The oil pressure gauge did NOT shut off the engine, so it ran for who knows how long with little to no oil in it.
- Now the rep from Generac who was on our case, has bailed on us and kicked the can down to the next rep. Why? Because she knows that she will be listed as the primary contact for my lawyers to reach out to her with a lawsuit.
This company is a TOTAL POS. I can't stress how sorry I am for falling for their BS and buying their garbage. They don't stand behind their products or their customers. Generac SUCKS!!
Six plus years of trying to deal with these a*******, just to GET what I f****** paid for!!!

My installer is top notch, BUT!

My installer is top notch. But when I called the warranty department it went downhill FAST.
The woman would not listen to what I had to say. When I would start talking, she would talk over the top of me and not stop talking. She was 100% rude. This went on for several minutes. I then asked to talk to her supervisor. She said I didn't need to talk to anyone else. Now she is almost screaming at me. I repeated the request several times. I finally had enough. Told her I would contact Generac corporate. I said have a bad day and I hung up.
At this moment I am on hold with Generic.

dont trust Generac or their contractors

the company Generac had us use for installation sent a crew that had no clue about what they were doing even to the point of charging us for copper line and giving us poly. the generator has never operated as promised and it will cost us over $1,200 to have a licensed Generac repair company come out to figure out what is wrong even though the generator is brand new installed april of 2022 during the freeze in December we constantly had to restart the unit and decide what to power up even though we have a 24k Guardian the smart modules are probably installed incorrectly but until we come up with over $1,000 we wont know

3 years for Solar. Still not 100%

We purchased a solar power cell system. It took a year and a half for the install. They registered the unit which put it "into warranty status."

It still doesn't work after 3years? They are off-loading warranty work when it's never worked 100% in the first place. They told me it was like a car dealership. You get your warranty work there..I told em you don't buy broken new cars.

I also reminded them of the Magnuson Warranty Act and the Consumer protection laws.

They would not accept responsibility to find an accredited repair company so I pulled in the installer. Officially on year 3... waiting for a part with a $500 electric bill for the last two months.

Doesn’t work in a blizzard
We had a big blizzard this week.,,very windy and snowy. Air filter got filled with ice and the generator went out. Service company never responded to my call for service or advice on what to do to correct the situation. Many neighbours had same problem. Not impressed. Now I can’t rely on my generator to keep house safe if I am away. They need to issue a recall and find a solution to this problem.

Installer Matters / Customer Service Poor

The customer service is really bad. You have to get to a person in charge if you want help. The people who answer calls will give you the same info on website. I was able to get our generator problem resolved after a lot of efforts on my part. It should not be this hard. They have installers who are not experts in their products. If you invest in a large whole home generator I suggest finding an installer with ALOT of experience with that specific one. Ours made a huge mistake and that’s the reason ours failed when the power went out. An experienced company finally came out and found the problem immediately. But installation errors aren’t covered under the warranty. Lesson learned. Don’t let your home builder choose who installs your generator. Find the best installer yourself.

Generac not for cold weather

Generator is less than 2 years old and is tested once a week and has had the annual service provided. But when we needed it due to power outage in the middle of a country wide cold spell it could not start. It tried 3 or 4 times and that was it. T he service provider service department was closed as it is 12/23/22. Called Generc and gave up after an extended perioed time. My advice is DO NOT BUY GENERAC GENERATOR! It only works in milder temperatures.

I purchased a very expensive generator…

I purchased a very expensive generator because my wife is on a oxygen machine I purchased this ahead of a blizzard storm coming it will not even start tried everything i am 60 years old and have a lot of experience with small gas engines the will not help I spent 3 hours on the phone and trying to start this Pos the customer service is terrible now I am stuck with a 900.00 dollar junk and no power for my wifes oxygen machine they do not care will never buy another generac anything and will let everyone know what kind of company they really are they do not care if a old woman has oxygen machine that will work when the power goes out!!! this was purchased from menards they will not take it back

Buyer beware

After have my system down over a faulty part. Effectively eliminated my most productive months. Now the system isn’t allowing me to see production at all. On the phone with customer service for over an hour and still no help.

Garbage Solar equipment

I purchased a power cell battery back up system rom Powerhome solar(don’t get me started on them). This system sucks, it doesn’t produce what it was sold as. The system is too expensive for what so little it does! Don’t buy this system your just wasting your money!

Take heed...Generac "Solar Syatem" is junk along with their customer service wait times ALWAYS 60 TO 75MIN. THIS HOW THEY GET OVER ON YOU...1. GENERAC SELLS THE UNIT TO YOU WITH FRAUDULENT CLAIMS OF SAVINGS. 2. GENERAC DOESN'T SERVICE THEIR OWN SYSTEMS AND THE 3RD PARTY COMPANIES SUCK. CAME OUT 3 TIMES EACH TIME WAS OVER A MONTH A PART. THEN THE SERVICE COMPANY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. NO CALL FROM GENERAC TO NOTIFY CUSTOMERS OF 3RD PARTY COMPANY CLOSING. 3. FINANCED BY ANOTHER COMPANY FREEING THEM OF ANY RESPONSIBILITY AND THEY'VE BEEN PAID "NO INCENTIVE TO CARE OR REALLY HELP".

A Generac 7 year warranty means one year

I purchased the Generac Guardian generator in Nov of 2019 from Costco. Recently a Generac module has to be replaced at a cost to me. The failed module has knock out one of two AC units when the average temperature in Houston is currently 94 degrees. Grasten Power Technologies installed it. They just informed me that the module have only a one year warranty. If I knew that, I would not have purchased it. The give away was that Generac has misspelled my last name since 2019.
Today, they came back a brought my Generac system to full operating status.

Thanks for the service today.

Do not buy a Generac standby home generator

Giving 1 star because I can’t give “0” stars. We purchased a Generac Standby home generator to cover 2 houses in October of 2021 and it stopped working after a month. It is now September 2022 and still not working. They keep replacing the same parts over and over and have even replaced the wiring harness. We now have a $22000 piece of yard art. I have an elderly parent who has durable medical equipment that needs electricity and when the power goes out, he can’t use his equipment. All we want is for Generac to stand by their products and since this is obviously a bad unit (lemon) we want them to replace it with a new one.

Poor installation, warranty avoidance, and 7+ calls just to get off a mailing list!

Generac installed a system on my mother's house. When we discovered that the gas line to the generator was leaking gas and rusting and that one of the latches was defective, we called to have these fixed (and we were actually told that the rusting gas line was "normal"). We then received a bill -- they wanted *us* to pay to fix their installation errors and defective hardware (and yes, the system was under warranty)! I had to get rather pushy on the phone before they would rescind the bill. ---- Then Generac started sending me advertisements at my address without asking my permission to add me to their mailing list. When I called the number on the mailing, I was told that they couldn't take me off the list and I'd have to call another number; annoyed, I did so, and told the operator what I wanted, but she just dumped me into a queue with a very long wait time. I called the first number and asked the woman who answered to just take down my information and pass it along, but she was adamant that she couldn't do that (even though every reputable company I've ever asked to stop mailing me junk obliges with no issue) and refused to conect me to a supervisor. I let her know that this waste of my time would be documented online, hence this review. I then called the second number a *second* time and demanded that the operator handle the issue without forcing me to wait on hold for the privilege of getting them to stop harassing me with mailings, and this time she agreed to do so. Absolutely pathetic customer service from a company that had already proven itself completely untrustworthy by botching an install and then trying not to honor its own warranty!! --- Further update: I received a call back (call #5) from the second number I'd called, informing me that *I* would have to call a *third* phone number before the mailings would stop. I called the number (call #6) and there was yet another long queue and I requested a call-back. When the call-back came, the connection quality was horrific and the call quickly dropped. I called back (call #7) and got another terrible connection, and was asked for code numbers that don't appear anywhere on the mailing (and was asked for my name and address no fewer than three separate times by the same person); and was told that the issue would have to be "escalated" and someone would call me back (which will be call #8 if it comes)... she actually thought the situation was funny and was laughing about it, which is deeply insulting. --- Update as of 9/14/22: no one ever called me back about my "escalated" case (what a surprise!), so I called again (call #8) and spoke with someone who said she'd escalate the issue to her supervisor and that either she or the supervisor would definitely call back.
