Florida Blue Policy Misrepresentation

On 12/5/23, a Florida Blue sales representative was explaining individual policies to us and she said for the plan we wanted to purchase, "Tier 5 drugs" would only require a copay and would not apply to a deductible. Their were two specific Tier 5 drugs we discussed, one of which is life sustaining.
On 3/18/24, with the plan activated on 2/1/24, we find out we owe a copay of $1558.79 for a 90 day supply of a tier 5, life sustaining medication.
On 3/19/24, we speak with Florida Blue representative for guidance about the policy discrepancy and she finds literature stating that Tier 1-5 should be copay only and says she'll call the third party Prime therapeutics that handles the medication portion of the Florida Blue plans. She speaks to their representative, with us on the line, and he says Tier 5 medications must meet a $3,000 deductible before the copay applies. Florida Blue then admits to misrepresenting the policy and indicates they will escalate the matter to see why there is a discrepancy.
On 3/20/24, Florida Blue customer service does not acknowledge misrepresenting the policy, and tells us we need to pay the direct cost of the medication and buy another plan.
We then call back to escalate and file for a misrepresentation of policy, speak to a manager who says they will review the initial sales call back by end of day.
On 3/22, after receiving no response and with one day left of medication, we are now told that the initial sales call "cannot be found", again redirected to their pharmacy vendor, and again tells us we need to pay the direct cost of the medication and buy another plan.
My family now has to either take on a substantial and unanticipated financial hardship or not be able to obtain a life sustaining drug because of Florida Blue's misrepresentation of policy and customer service negligence.

We're very disappointed in Florida Blue's lack of ethics.

Rather than admit their mistakes, provide coverage for this prescription, and assist with changing our plan so we have the coverage originally promised, they've decided to deflect responsibility and put my family at risk.

FLORIDA BCBS IS GETTING WORSE

After FIVE years Florida Blue decided to automatically CHANGE MY PRIMARY DOCTOR and PHARMACY with 2024 insurance. I'm informed right in the middle of taking care of tests, referrals for a surgery and a doctor's appt. the next morning, I had to then change the primary back to my original. Then, after a doctor's office sending in prescriptions I find out my PHARMACY has also been changed after five years. They're saying it's mandatory I move to Walgreens. I was told there's no appealing it and it couldn't be changed. My current pharmacy is across the street. The new one is way down the highway through a nightmare of construction. I cannot fathom why they did this or wouldn't care about the situations of their customers.
Florida Blue continues to get worse and worse.

After several years at my Chiropractor, he had to stop taking my policy in 2023 because a third party (I was told) who handles payment decisions didn't want to pay as much so he had been losing money for a couple years.

Absolutely horrific customer service

Absolutely horrific customer service. While routine claims are handles fairly well, get on your knees and pray that you never have to contact them for anything. I personally submitted a claim 4 times and they acknowledged it at the time, and later could not find anything. They bounce claims between different divisions within the organization because apparently no one has a clue. If I could change before open enrollment I would.

Avoid if at all possible

Not enough room on this website to describe every awful experience I've had with FL Blue, and sadly they're the highest rated ins co in the state. Just got my annual letter about renewing plan and I need time to calculate whether to keep my current plan or choose a different one. I called the number on the letter and was told by a pleasant-sounding agent that she doesn't know. I said "You don't know?" She said, "well, I DO know, but I'm not allowed to tell you so I have to transfer you to someone who's allowed to say." What??? Last fun experience before that: they kept denying prior authorization requests for a med that my epileptic son needs. 6 times over a period of 4-5 months. Even though doc included explanation why this particular med is needed. Took hours on the phone with various departments to find out there's a special "secret" form the doc needs to submit and fax to them. Why should a thing like this be so hard to find out? Why all the secrets???

Unfortunately I had this company for to long. I strongly suggest that no one should use their pay on line system. I used this twice and both times very unsuccessful in completing my transaction. First time using their system they posted my payment all directly to my dental plan which gave me a $1566.65 positive balance which should have been posted to health care. Not knowing this I received a cancelation on the healthcare. They would not reinstate my healthcare unless I sent a payment in full amount. They would not take the positive balance from the Dental Plan they said it had to be approved by their supervisor. After 12 days of dealing with this mistake I cancel my dental with so they would not mix up the payments again. After this mess I decided I would only send a check to them directly. This did work out. After a year of sending them checks for payments I needed to use the online system again. My big mistake . I posted the date which I wanted to make the payment. When I went to balance my checkbook I notice they took the payment out twice. I called their 800 number and they said that THEY WOULD POST ONE AMOUNT FOR THE NOVEMBER AND OTHER AMOUNT FOR DECEMBER. THEY WERE ONLY TO TAKE OUT ONE PAYMENT ONLY! I CANCELED MY INSURANCE PRIOR TO THE NOVEMBER'S PAYMENT WHICH IT SHOWED IN THEIR SYSTEM THAT NOVEMEBR 30 2023 I HAD CANCELED. I AM WAITING TO GET REIMBURSED FOR DECEMBERS PAYMENT.
In all fairness to Florida Blue They always paid my medical bills. I do not faith in
their billing system nor their customer service.

Florida blue is one of the worst…

Florida blue is one of the worst Insurance I have ever had. I have had Florida Blue health insurance for several years, and I have been very disappointed with the service. My premiums are high, and my coverage is limited. I have had to pay out-of-pocket for many medical services that should have been covered by my insurance. When I have filed claims, they have often been denied, even for medically necessary services. Customer service is slow and unresponsive. In addition, they are charging over even though Market place has set up my fixed premium. I will file a complain to Florida Insurance Regulation Board shortly. I would not recommend Florida Blue health insurance to anyone.

Absolutely awful

Absolutely awful. I pay $1300 per month for individual private insurance (just me) and they have denied two medications I need and meet criteria for. They also denied an MRI of my brain that a neurologist said I needed! In addition I am starting physical therapy and they have only 2 physical therapists in-network close to me - neither is good. None of the good ones are in their network. Their customer service reps know nothing, so don’t count on them when you need help. One even lied and pretended they don’t have reference numbers for calls. Their find-a-doctor site is disorganized and not up to date. I’m so unhappy with them and will be making a change to another plan as soon as possible. Should have done do sooner. They seem to get worse every year.

Florida Blue is the worst turning down…

Florida Blue is the worst turning down delaying health procedures for people.. Some paper pusher outsourced and paid and bonused for saving Florida Blue money. My doctor doesn't seem to have any say in my health care because the Gods at Flrioda Blue will decide weather my healthcare will move forward or if its not my lucky day and I will be punished. Florida Blue is concerned only with profits and are is something the will be determined by the outsourced Gods Florida Blue has hired to protect their profits

Worst Health Provider

Called a rep in early November to setup a health plan. we spent an hour setting everything up and she said she'd call me back to finalize everything. She never called me back, even after I called her several times. So in early December I call again and went through the same process with another rep for at least an hour. She said I would be receiving an email in a day or two to setup my account and make payment - that email never came. Third time I called, get transferred to 6 different departments and no one can find information on me, even after giving them my SSN.

A 10-year old can setup better customer service than this. I will be looking into Cigna or other health options because Florida Blue is obviously run by clowns. Can't imagine being a current Florida Blue customer and having an emergency and getting the run around from customer support. Guess it's a blessing in disguise I didn't sign up with them.

This is absolutely the worst insurance to be a provider with. Currently I am 30 minutes on hold to address an issue that I have been trying to resolve since November 12. Since then I have not been paid a dime for my services and FB is clawing back for 1k

Better Than Expected

I enrolled in a Florida Blue plan this year, Bronze myblue and it was better than I had expected. The coverage is not stellar but the customer service and support make up for it. I would encourage anyone looking for a myfloridablue plan to check out the Bronze plan.

Florida Blue Select is Not Good

From what I understand regular Florida Blue is OK. But I got the "Select" plan which you get at the insurance "marketplace", the government website where you are supposed to be able to get more affordable insurance. Well let me tell you what happens: They bill the government full insurance prices but charge you a smaller fee. And the "select" term basically means "ghetto" because Doctors don't want to accept it. How do I know? My gf works at an office with many different types of practitioners and they make wise cracks about "another person called with Select, told them it would be better to self-pay". Its a joke and scam on the American people.
