DO NOT EXPECT A FAIR TREATMENT
After a long search for a reliable broker and having read reviews, I decided to give Finecobank a go. What a mistake. It took ages to open the account and the interface is far from clear and transparent.
Opened a CFD short position on Friday at 132 and used the stop loss feature at 141 to protect the loss. The next working day the share opened higher at 151.5 so was naturally expecting my short position to close with some loss.
However, Fineco instead opened 2 (!) long positions on the stock instead (the 2nd being unauthorised), leaving me with an unauthorised long position which I had to close at a loss on top of the one already incurred.
The subsequent attempts to resolve it through the helpline had little traction and I managed to receive an email response from the support desk that made no sense whatsoever.
In the meantime, I am preparing a complaint to FCA as a retail client to ensure that other clients do not have the same experience I did.

Don't say later that no one warned you
i moved my isa to them. After move realized that: (a) product choices way too limited and (b) fund transactions are so opaque and delayed as compared to other platforms like HL, II or any other providers.
anyway this is not the story - my nightmare started when i want to move my cash and positions to other providers - i bet you just can't do it. i am trying for more than 3 months. my new provider is helpful and genuinely trying to make this transfer happen (however i have lost hope). seems i have to involve banking regulators but still it will be another many months of issue i think.
i tried to sell my fund position and convert it into cash so that it is easier to transfer - Fineco even refused my sell order.
Their license should be immediately revoked. There is no 'care' no 'dilligence' and no 'practice in place to let the dissatisfied customer change the provider'.
They should not be let operate in any civilized country

Non-stop spamming
So much spam. I tried opening an account, decided not to go through with it. That's when the barrage of harrasment started. Daily phone calls, sms, and emails. Worst part is you can't even "unsubscribe". Can't trust a company that handles my personal data like this. I've also reported them for GDPR miscompliance to ICO.
How to best convert and transfer currency
I needed to understand how to best use Fineco to convert and send money. I got my answer!
It would be nice if Fineco could offer a Non-Resident, domestic-Italian bank account - without having to cancel the dual GBP+EURO facility I currently have.
It would also be great if they could offer mortgages in the Italian market for foriegn buyers, as I would move to purchase. But, I do not think they do..?
The worst banking decisions of my life
The worst banking decisions of my life. Have used over 70 financial institutions, for even more accounts to count, and this sits as the worst ever.
Ludicrous number of pins and passwords with even pins sent after entering pins and passwords. The irony is the main account password is limited in form to make it very weak too.
Very difficult to contact e.g. if you're used to first direct response don't use Fineco. It takes them literally ages to answer the phone for you to try to communicate with an Italian with a very thick accent that really isn't very helpful.
Writing is limited to a messaging system where normal punctuation isn't accepted so it looks like a 5 yr old has written it. The reply is often in Italian too so you'll need to translate it. IF YOU WANT TO OPERATE IN THE UK, YOU NEED TO HAVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS AND WRITERS.
I have closed my accounts with this bank now and have failed to have any useful responses to queries since closing them. The last response was literally utter gibberish, didn't in anyway answer my query and actually spurred me to write this review.

Started to open a trading account with fineco. Had to jump through so many hoops to do so, taking photos of myself transfering money to what I assume is a temporary account. Did all this eventually, then week later the account was still not open. Rang them up and it took ages to get through. Then a guy answered the phone. He was wasnt very friendly and quite lethargic. I'm sure I must have just woken him up. Alarm bells started ringing and instead of enquiring about why my account hadnt been opened I just asked him to cancel the request and close the application. I think I saved myself alot of future headaches with this company. If they are like this with new customers what will they be like when they have their hands on my money?
Poor Trading Options
Definately cheap. But you will find equities are limited. If all you want is to trade company stocks you should be fine.
If you want ETFs or investment trusts the selection is limited. Turns out that as they are an Italian bank they don't have access to a segment of the LSE that some trusts and etfs are traded.
They say you can however trade them offline by a phone call or email at no extra cost.
