I've been a member for around 7 years
I've been a member for around 7 years, I let my membership lapse and erstwhile apparently there were some issues with some of the leadership but I have to say I've not had any issues personally. This is one of the best UK based sharp edge forums which is invaluable if you are a collector, maker, tinkerer, seller (or a combination like me). I don't get involved in any politics, I'm just there to enjoy discussion and there is still a lively base for this.
Hopefully the forum will continue to grow over the coming months and years.
Avoid EM at all costs
A dreadful experience from start to finish,They make the rules up to suit themselves,MinImum membership is £5 for 1yr subscription which gives you access to buy and sell 5 items per month...However if they don’t like what you are selling then your ad gets deleted this also applies to items wanted ...and the £5 membership gives you “privileged” access to discount codes which if you share gets you reprimanded or BANNED ...Save yourself a fiver and join any other forum except this one.....I was banned 2 months after paying my membership but I have put in a claim through PayPal
The 2 items I was selling were “grey area” NOT ILLEGAL....others are allowed to trade in “grey area” items but that is ok....one rule for them and another rule for everyone else...It is no loss to me not being a member and others can benefit from my experience on there to Avoid joining at all cost!!
OK UPDATE 11/02/20 in reply or response from EM Admin.
First don't be Pedantic about everything you think you know everything when in fact you know nothing!
You seem to have omitted a few details from the copy/paste reply that is both here and on my PayPal claim! the most obvious thing that stands out is a mention of a M.E MADE knife that you "accused me" of buying and purposely flipping? what is meant buy this exactly? first I purchased a J.E MADE knife NOT M.E MADE knife and are you saying I have intentionally made it into a flipper knife of flipped it for a profit? well "A" the first case is that it is a slip joint so cannot be altered and the second point "B" that I flipped it (for those that are not familiar with the term "FLIPPED" it means to buy something and then sell it for a higher price) are you saying that people cannot buy anything from your forum and sell for a profit? And with regards to both point A and B I still have in my possession the J.E MADE knife which has neither had its function altered or been sold
My next point of embarrassment for you that I will address is the comment about asking for someone personal details:
So lets paint the picture, you have a forum member who is DESPERATE FOR CASH THAT DAY...so he offers an item up for sale which I agree to buy and send him the funds IMMEDIATELY to get him out of trouble and in return he agrees to send my the item the next day via SPECIAL DELIVERY...a few days pass and I have no goods or any explanation as to why I have not received them SO YOU ARE GOD DAMD RIGHT I AM GOING TO ASK IN CAPITAL LETTERS OTHER FORUM MEMBERS IF THEY HAVE ANY CONTACT DETAILS FOR HIM!!!!!!!!!!! I did eventually get the goods at the end of it with a message from the seller telling me THAT HE HAD MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES .
So,Check my FEEDBACK TRANSACTIONS.......see any negative comments on there? No I thought not
YOU are the one who has a problem not ME....do you think you are a King and everyone needs to bow down before you? all hail CHUI all hail CHUI .....personally I think you are a little short fella who suffers from little man syndrome ....I may amend this and add more to it at a later date all my findings and comments will be based on personal dealing and experience with EM Admin / Mainly CHUI

The home of sharp objects in the UK
If you are into sharp pointy things then it is the best community in the UK. Community of collectors, users and makers. EdgeMatters attempts to support UK makers and is very receptive to ideas and suggestions on this front, something nobody else out there is doing.
There was some drama in the recent past, hence the string of 1 star reviews that you see here. However the parties that caused the issues are gone leaving only a small hardworking team that do not deserve to be saddled with the sins of the father.
I really would not base your view on the negative reviews, just try using it for free and see if it clicks for you. If it does great, if not then you are stuck with social media or USA forums.
Logged in and wish I hadn’t.
Through utter disgust, I haven’t visited the site for several months, but curiosity got the better of me so I looked in. Much of the discussion is now unreadable or deleted, and many important figures in the knife world banned or left by their own accord so as to distance themselves from the fiasco. I know that EdgeMatters will not be allowed to attend the only UK knife show this year, an event that brings custom makers, large production companies, and enthusiast together for a weekend of chat, sales, ideas and making friends and connections. I know also that EdgeMatters will not be invited to members workshops where the art of forging metal from scratch into an axe, hammer, sword, kitchen knife etc can be learned in good company. What the EdgeMatters lack of explanation, sitting on their laurels, and putting their fingers in their ears has accomplished is much more far reaching than the demise of a forum run by a narcissist, it has affected the whole industry negatively. He doesn’t see it of course but he has put more than a few nails in the industry coffin with his pomp and passive aggression.
There is still no proper explanation of what occurred with the promised accounts, excuses are still being made. The site owner, Chui, appears so up himself he expects the remaining suckers to kneel before him, organising knife raffles and distraction techniques to pour oil on troubled waters. I truly believe this person to be utterly deluded. Public raffles can be a bit of a minefield, so let’s hope ALL the funds went to the right place this time, helping the UK knife industry or those in genuine need. Not that forum money couldn’t have been donated without screwing it out of the remaining members, it’s just that someone had already been at the money jar by buying a Rockstead knife costing over £1000 while drunk and not really remembering doing it. And I know there was still plenty of money left for such causes rather than trying the “Hey, let’s do a fun and useful community thing” bull.
It’s most unfortunate for the knife industry that a shyster has pulled the wool over so many peoples eyes to the extent they still fall at the feet of a lazy charlatan who constantly uses the ill health of his fellow owner, or problems with accountants as his excuse. I’m shocked people put up decent reviews of EdgeMatters here, it’s a disgrace. I suppose much of the both constructive and destructive argument has been deleted and a favourable front left in place.
Bit of a long rant, hats off to anyone who got this far, but please avoid EdgeMatters. I’ve logged out for the final time and won’t revisit something that annoys me so much I feel I have to write here.
Edgematters : An excellent forum for knifemakers and collectors alike
The site was being spoiled by a small clique of very nasty spiteful people, so glad the Edge Matters admin has got rid of them. It is back to the friendly forum it used to be.
Edgematters has filled a void left…
Edgematters has filled a void left behind by British Blades, a previous knife enthusiast website that is no longer available.
Many of the enthusiasts migrated across to Edgematters to share knowledge, experience, tips and good old friendly banter.
I have been a member for several years and have found all areas of the forum to be entertaining, informative and fun.
The marketplace is fantastic. I have bought and sold many knives and other items via Edgematters and have never had a problem.
The forum is extremely well run and fairly moderated.
The use of a PM system is great to communicate privately with other forum enthusiasts.
If you have an interest in knives be they pocket knives, full tang, hidden tang, friction folder, flashlights, camping, shooting, etc, etc, then this is a good forum to use.
Edgematters. A truly helpful and friendly forum.
A truly helpful and friendly forum.
A lot of the members offer excellent advice and guidance to new makers, the atmosphere and conversations are fantastic, there are some truly knowledgeable members on the site.
I would recommend membership of this forum to anyone interested in this hobby/pastime/career.

After waiting 3 months to find out…
After waiting 3 months to find out about this stolen money by a alcoholic hypochondriac, the explanation finally contrived is all hidden and its not to be seen by potential new members, or by members who were waiting to see if renewal of their membership was worthwhile.
Whatever trust remaining on this site has finally been trashed by the numskulls running this site what they hope to gain by this is beyond belief.
The trust of this site has gone altogether, my advice , stay away, its not worth joining or being a part of this community,
Disgusting Behaviour.
Disgusting Behaviour by the people running this site.
They have allowed members who have claimed they have died to continue using the site under a different name.
Quite upsetting and quite frankly I’m surprised they are allowed to continue to operate.
I would strongly advise not to use or participate as obviously the people running the shambles cannot be trusted.
Beware
Stay well away from this site, it's rotten to the core.
House Of Horrors
Well this has turned out to be right old den of inequity. Someone has taken all the money provided as donations and subs and spent it on high end knives for themselves. Management dont want to admit anything, or even worse, do anything about it. Maybe they are also complicit?
If you ask question about the money, they delete your posts and press the issue with them and you will receive a ban. Wonderful! Question them about the money YOU sent THEM, and they ban you!
There is a "show and tell" of illegal weapons (flick knives & push daggers) and a thriving behind the scenes trade in these things. This really is not a good way to represent legitimate collectors and the hard working makers who comply with the law here.
I am glad to be out of there. I will get my money back from Paypal and register a complaint for non delivery of services.
EDIT:
Following Edgematters response.
"Someone has taken all the money provided as donations and subs and spent it on high end knives for themselves." -- this is utterly untrue. NO money has been spent by ANY staff member on ANYTHING for themselves, let alone ALL of it. You should be ashamed of yourself!"
So are you categorically denying that a staff member appropriated forum funds to buy themselves a Rockstead knife? And why after 2 months of this, has no one yet managed to provide a true & accurate account of forum funds?

The forum was set up under the guise…
The forum was set up under the guise that the revenue it generates will help nurture up and coming UK knife makers and support the community. It transpires that less than 1% of the revenue generated has been used in this way. Meanwhile the priciple owner/moderator has been siphoning off thousands of pounds paying the monies into his own accounts and buying himself expensive toys.
The whistle blowers (including one original co-owner) have been banned and/or had their posts deleted. Despite claims from the remaining moderators that the issue would be dealt with robustly no action has been taken. The remaining moderators have been threatening to ban and in some cases banning any of the membership who dare raise the issue. Meanwhile they continue to take monies from new members under the same false pretence. Its a scam, pure and simple.

A delight to use
I have been on various forums over the years, with topics including custom knife making, car enthusiasts and outdoor activities but after a while I get bored of the tedious moderation and lack of friendliness.
Edgematters.uk is different, it is a forum dedicated to knifes, whether custom made, amateur made or shop bought that has a real good feel about it. No heavy handed moderation, friendly helpful members that seem to go out of their way to help.
Long live EdgeMatters.uk.
