Converted to solar and switched to Ecotricity
First they put me on their most expensive plan, then when I queried it they just changed the name of the plan on the invoice, and slightly increased one of the rates and kept the same additional charges, so this invoice was slightly more! They gave me a $50 credit to me for solar referral from Harrison’s
The invoice was in credit and they then deducted a late payment fee from the credit balance for not paying on time when no payment was necessary! They don’t answer emails, staff are pleasant on the phone but don’t have a clue what is going on and can’t answer any questions , the app is basic, bordering on prehistoric, and the management of the solar import/ export meter activation was ridiculously slow with no timeline or communication
Do not sign up with this company It has been a total nightmare
I was with them for 35 days and it was horrendous

Essentially a scam company with no redeeming qualities. Poor interface, lying staff, hidden charges, incorrect billing. I honestly think their conduct is bordering on criminal.
Worst experience ever
I've switched and am busy resolving excessive billing with the Utilities disputes now.
We moved to Ecotricity after having solar installed, which included a new export meter. All was up and running, then we made the switch.
It took them weeks to get the import readings working, but months for the export readings.
Then, they backtracked the import charges (fair, that's electricity we used, so should pay for) but not our 3 months worth of export! 1600kWh unaccounted for. So many email shave gone back and forth, with no real progress. I explained it to the utilities disputes and they've been awesome.
Now, for December the house was unoccupied. Another 75 dollar bill arrived, mid summer, exporting almost 40kWh per day! I don't know what they're doing, but I'd say stay well clear of Ecotricity.
Also, they say they have great export rates (not that you'll get it), but they have so many extra charges that it's not even worth it. (battery club member, still don't know what that is.. Customer services didn't know either)
Really Really poor experience
Do yourself a favour and dont use these people. Terrible. incorrect billings, 3 weeks to respond to emails ( if they respond at all ) and we have been paid for about 20% of the power we exported to the grid in September. We were not put on the plan we requested , and the documents we submitted on line to then they claimed never to have received. Ecotricity charges are excessively high compared to others and their billing is nearly impossible to understand. Gave them a shot, cut my losses and and went straight back to Contact. Terrible experience. I would not recommend Ecotricity to anyone
Charged us for our solar export
Charged us for our solar export, contacted Ecotricity to get it resolved. Its still not resolved, two months of billing is now due - But no invoices received. Followed up multiple times including Utility disputes... with no result.
Moving to another power company that has an app, and can resolve billing issues easily.

1) They put me on the wrong plan and charged me more.
2) I requested some services and received an automated email stating I would get a response within 5 days, but I never heard back.
3) There has never been a proper meter reading; they don't have an app to monitor daily usage.

Absolutely terrible service - was promised callbacks and never received anything back. Waiting on the UDL to comeback to me. Eco sent Three bills in one day, and demanding payment 10days later. totally unfair. Just an all-round crap power company

Firstly they put me on the wrong plan and was overcharging me. I asked them to resolve it and for 3 months not heard anything- I have rang them several times about this. They keep sending me huge bills. They now claim to have sorted it but I have no evidence of what they have done nor the refund they claim to have made to me. Biggest power bill that I have ever had just sent to me. Secondly according to their ‘readings’ I use most power at 7am. However i am retired and do not get up until 8 am ….. so how can i use most power at that time? Am very unhappy and do not trust them. Will be changing.

Not normally one to complain but my whole experience with Ecotricity has been to say the least disappointing. The lack of communication has been appalling and every excuse under the sun has been given to me for not being able to help. We joined the company 3 months ago while our house was being renovated - 6 weeks of just tradies there. Our first months bill came to $644..obviously a mistake. Despite me giving the previous owners final reading and a current one from us they have not been able to work out how much we actually owe them. Have now changed companies and can only suggest to anyone reading this to steer clear of Ecotricity...they're great until there is an issue and then they are hopeless!
Actively disorganised
Actively disorganised. No matter what you do to arrange things ahead of time, they will insist on dragging everything out as long as possible. I told them in September that I was installing a solar system early November. And yet, 3 weeks later, they still haven't booked a day to install the 2 way meter so that I can be compensated for my investment.
no meter readings in the bill
They do not show any meter readings on the bill. We currently do not have a cellphone signal here so the meter cannot report remotely, a meter reader comes out and physically checks the meter. They say we are getting a new meter soon, but no date given. Unless it uses wifi to report it will be pointless. Ecotricity told me they are working on potentially showing the meter readings in the bill. They currently buy back our solar at the same rate as they charge us. I have to check the meter every month to make sure their number are (roughly) correct.
Lied to us
Worst thing we could have done. We were led to believe our power bill would stay the same, nope not even!
Over 300 in the month of august and 150 this month of October! We only ever paid 120 per month! So something is terribly wrong with their figures.
Anyone got suggestions on how to get rid of it?
Happy to overcharge you, but drag their heels to fix it.
Joined in July 2023 and the first bill was I was overcharged for my daily rate (62 days for July instead of 31).
After informing them that this was correct, I was told this would be fixed and a correct invoice sent.
Then August came round and no correction, so contacted them seeking the correction. I was told this would be corrected within a week.
September came round and nothing was corrected, once again contact was made and was told it would be corrected.
October came round and nothing was corrected, once again contact was made and was told it would be corrected.
November came round and nothing was corrected, but was also charged a late payment fee and disconnection was threatened because I hadn’t paid the incorrect invoice.
Utilities Disputes got involved and I was promised that the late fee would be removed and I would get a correction for the July invoice in the next bill.
December came round and there was no correction to the July invoice as agreed with Utilities Disputes.
After all this, I see in the NZ Herald another customer was overcharged and could get his bill corrected in less than 24 hours! I can see how that ended up in the paper, because based on my experience they don’t fix problems and this must’ve been the first person they actually corrected an invoice for.
My recommendation to anyone looking to use this company for their power supply is to stay away! Even if Ecotricity are the cheapest available, pay more to get better service for any other power company! Just stay away!
Terrible just terrible
Terrible just terrible. I never signed off for solar panels, I only enquired about it. Without my consent my electricity provider was switched over to Ecotricity 12 months ago and only last week they contacted me to say I have a 12 months outstanding power bill to pay. They had my email misspelled and never bothered to call until now. The proof that I never consented them is that I don't have solar panels installed on my house!!
Avoid these Clowns
Absolutely hopeless customer service. Tried to get solar installed in December 2022 and might as well tried to get a monkey to write a book. Seems to be no organization in their office, nobody knows what anyone else is doing, and when they made promises to do things they wouldn't eventuate.
The billing is a mess making it harder than it needs to be to understand, and the online portal is a waste of time.
People on the phone do seem friendly, but as dumb as a bag of hammers.

Ecotricity is a very unscrupulous operation. These guys instead of meeting to discuss a disputed bill convinced TSB to restart an cancelled direct debit and just took what money they felt was correct without even a final receipt. Absolute scum!!!
