My Davek umbrella broke the first time I used it; it wasn't too windy in. Glasgow but a strut broke nevertheless; total waste of money

Poor poor poor. Lasted 10 months for an umbrella costing £100 !!! Poor customer service also.
Expected to pay £20 in postage (to send and return)
This really is not acceptable for an item that was ment to last.

Husband bought me a Davek - difficult to open up and too small for London rain.

This is a review of the Davek Traveller. I have had two Davek Travellers now. Both have broken in exactly the same way, after reopening. The force of the spring loaded action has now, for the second time, broken one of the struts in the action of pressing the reopen button. I think it's something to do with the way it doesn't close down easily, something gets slightly misplaced and so when the button is fired the next time, it opens in an awkward way and breaks itself, firing off one of the springs, as one of the other reviewers here mentions. I would be interested to know whether the five star reviews here are of the Solo, the Traveller or the Mini -- really, the site should ask people to specify the model. It's appalling that you have to pay £10 to activate the so-called lifetime guarantee. It's easy to see, in hindsight that the company are able to turn a profit because of this fee. The build quality simply isn't there, which makes the lifetime guarantee a fantastic marketing device. In other words, you think, as I did -- 'Hey, if they're offering a lifetime guarantee, they must be extremely confident of their product'. The answer is, nope, they just know that dupes like me will go on paying £10 each time to have the product replaced. The actual postage cost is way below £10 and I suspect that the cost price to Davek of each umbrella is far, far below the retail price. It's a triumph of marketing over physics! I'm very disappointed; I wanted a travel umbrella that would be windproof as I often use umbrellas as parasols when on holiday.

Very disappointing. I got the Davek traveler as a gift and after a few uses the it broke. It was really awkward to close it in the first place and try to fit it back in the case, as it really doesn't fold nicely so the general closure of it meant the end of it very quickly. Really frustrating for such a pricey thing (£85) you expect top quality and something to last at LEAST a year.

There mini stitching went in 3 weeks of average use on the inside and the handle broke. Refunded but that's hassle and not the point for something that's supposed to be the best and last.

Bought a MIni one for my husband as a pressent, thinking it is indeed a good purchase. The quality...is not there. Defeetly doesnt match the price tag and is just totally disapointing the way it arrives to you...wrinkled as it would come from China (no disrispect to chinese products). Not even the colour is of the same intensity as it apears on the website. Honestly looks like a cheep replica of the authentic one. The customer service is non existent. They are american company with a distribution centre in Belfast, but no real help. I just emailed their american office and hope for an answer and a fast return of my money.

I’d had a Davek umbrella on my wish list for a while, as I wanted to avoid another cheap “made in China” model, not built to last, thus ending up in landfill in a short time.

Alas, my husband purchased The Traveller model for a special birthday last November, but if I’ve used a dozen times, it would be a stretch. The Traveller is a great compact size and I love the material and sturdy hand strap. However, I’ve found from the outset that it’s been quite stiff to open and hard to close up again. Even in a moderate wind, one of the small springs in the umbrella spokes came loose and it was extremely difficult to fix back in again, but we persevered and managed it. Lo and behold, that same spring and a couple more came loose when I was out recently and they’d dropped out by the time I got home, rendering 3 spokes floppy and the umbrella virtually unusable in the slightest gust of wind.

I’m unimpressed that with such a hefty price tag, this umbrella has not stood up to the windy elements they claim it should. I’ve had £2 Ikea umbrellas last longer. In fact, they’ve never broken; I’ve just lost them, due to their uncompact size!

Instructing you to pay £10 for the return postage post repair, also adds insult to injury!

Really, really poor. Mini umbrella I ordered has come in the wrong colour, looks and feels really poor quality and certainly doesn’t justify the massive price tag. The return policy is a joke.. I have to pay for all shipping despite being sent the wrong colour plus they will take 30 days to refund me... stay well away.

I have always preferred umbrellas to any other method of rain protection, with the addition of an additional accessory that says something about myself in public. However, I tended to invest in mid-range umbrellas that were either unreliable or too large to manage (as I fly frequently, and couldn't store a longer umbrella), and have never taken much of an interest in compact models.

However, upon finding Davek, I decided to invest in an umbrella that claimed to withstand the test of time, of exceptional quality for a compact, and with lifetime guarantee. Of course, it is an investment, but for someone who uses umbrellas frequently, I decided to try it out for myself. The reviews were excellent, the design made sense, and I could return it if I was not satisfied with my purchase. The umbrella, itself, is a beautiful item of satisfying weight and thoughtful design, with excellent open/close mechanics and a self-righting mechanism for sudden gusts that invert the canopy. It withstands considerable gale winds in my experience, and by opening and closing the canopy quickly, it shakes off excess water by itself. It looks and feels gorgeous, and it arrived in a gift-worthy box with a lifetime guarantee card.

The logistics from purchase to satisfaction weren't utterly seamless, however - my first model arrived slightly damaged with a warped arm in the canopy, but the customer service was excellent, and a replacement item was delivered immediately.

I would recommend this company and its products to anyone looking to invest in a reliable tool and professional fashion item, from a company with excellent customer service and a commitment to long-term business relationships.

I bought this umbrella due to the fact it could stand incredible wind speeds. The first one broke in brisk but not gale winds. They did replace it very quickly without trouble, and I assumed it was just a bad un' in a batch that can happen to anyone, but ... the second one in a lesser wind was about to break so I just had to get wet. I don't honestly think it is any more sturdy than non budget umbrellas..

I bought a Davek Duet as I wanted a compact umbrella that I could fit in my daily commuting backpack... but that had the canopy size and strength of your average golfing umbrella. I’d been searching for years for an umbrella with those capabilities and finally - on paper at least - here it was. It is without a shadow of a doubt, ludicrously expensive... but if it performed as I hoped it would, it would be well worth it.

It arrived quickly, was well packaged and presented and felt like a quality (read: weighs a lot) product. My mind changed a little when I pressed the button and it opened... to reveal indeed a large canopy... but one that appeared to be mounted on the same sort of flimsy frame as any other cheap and cheerful compact... with little bits of excess thread holding it on in places... a couple of the arms not tensioning completely... and the whole thing just felt like it was missing a couple of screws. My fears were realised when I went outdoors with it and the whole thing inverted under seemingly the mildest of breezes. It was even able to invert under a gust of its own making. "Seriously!?" I remember exclaiming out loud...

I just packed it back in its (rather splendid) box with a stiff letter and resentfully paid the tenner to return it. "Replace or refund. Or just refund if this is how Davek’s umbrellas normally operate..."

A few days later, I had a very apologetic letter from Davek saying this was not acceptable and that they would be replacing the umbrella with a brand new one... and that they would also refund my courier costs... which indeed, they did.

The replacement arrived shortly after... and certainly seemed much better put together than the original... it (impressively) ejects and retracts with each button press... the frame tensions nicely, the useful hanging clip, the adjustable strap handle, the excellent storage sheath, all are fantastic quality... but I haven’t had it out in anything other than breeze-free rainfall because I still have my reservations about its general durability and ability to cope with reasonably poor weather, despite Davek’s claims.

To conclude, the Davek Duet Is a good umbrella, yes... but it’s not one hundred and forty pound’s worth of good umbrella. That price just feels a bit daft for what is essentially a compact (albeit large coverage) umbrella. It’s a four star umbrella at a less than one star price. It may well be though, that what you’re paying for is Davek’s customer services, which here in the UK at least, is brilliant and most definitely five stars... but I wouldn’t blame anyone who would take the logical option of just buying ten regular compact umbrellas for the same money from somewhere else instead...

So, my wee brolly traveller (red) arrived within 2 days of ordering. I took it gingerly from the rather splendid packaging (always appreciated when you have laid out money, no?) and found within a scarlet wonder ...

The canopy is strong, quite large, easily extended with one press of the handle. The handle itself fits snuggly into the hand, a wrist loop ensuring that it stays put. The real beauty lies inside the canopy, spokes strong as a Highland tug of war team, and looking as attractive too!

What I particularly like is the clip thingy on the handle, enabling attachment to a bag. What this means for me is that my Scarlet Davec is not destined to join all my other brolly imposters, left all over the UK and the wider world.

Sadly, the weather here in Cheshire has been clement for the last two days. However, she will join me in Prague tomorrow ready and able to confront any rain/snow/hail.

Mary Poppins eat your heart out! For I shall have my red boots on and will fly over Charles Bridge and beautiful Prague, like Herse guided by my Scarlet Davec.

My solo umbrella looked good out of the box but one of the spokes gave up after about 10 openings. It is bent and the umbrella does not work. Now the response of the company was amazing. Not only they sent me a replacement (that works fine now) within a couple of days, but they also apologised for the problem. I am truly impressed by the customer service.

Exceptional! The build quality is impressive, and proves one thing; you get what you pay for.
Smart, robust, solid, fashionable this is the Umbrella of Umbrellas.
I cannot recommend them more highly. Don't hesitate- get one.

I lost my previous trusty Doppler umbrella two weeks ago (first time in my life), and Davek was in my mind for a while, since I saw a video about their project. So I ordered one from UK, and arrived within 5 business days to Hungary.
This Davek Solo umbrella seems to be really rock solid and high quality both in terms of material and assembly. Really a piece of art, or clothes accessory (and I’m not snob), not just a functional item. Looking forward to testing/using it in rain. :)
The solo is actually quite big, absolutely OK for single use. And the offered support and guarantee for 50% in case of lose, is more than attractive. So far so good, and I’m happy! :)
