STAY AWAY

55y.o. man here who has worked out in gyms all over the country and all over the world. The fact that I’m taking time to write this is an indication of how horrible Crunch on East Colonial Downtown is. I joined about 6 weeks ago and cancelled today. It does not matter what time you go to the gym, the bathroom and locker room will be closed off for cleaning with a line of people standing outside waiting to get in. Crunch does not respect any customers time, to them you are not a customer. The bathrooms are closed 45 min to an hour at a time at least twice a day. It does not matter if your personal belongings are in the bathroom/locker room, they will block you from going in and they don’t care if you have to get to work or school. Their people literally yell, and when I say yell, I mean YELL at you to get out of the locker room if it’s time for cleaning. They respect no one one’s time. And let’s talk about cleanliness and the lack thereof. Soap dispensers always empty and often missing altogether, ripped off the wall, feces in the toilet, doors ripped off of lockers. Filthy wet floors with wet toilet paper everywhere. And then the equipment: much of it is jerky and in disrepair. But the worst part is they think it is perfectly ok for moms who managed to carve an hour out of their day to go do something nice for themselves and workout, and then they can’t use the locker room and change clothes. They think this is normal and ok. This has never happened in any other gym in the country or the world that I have worked out in. And their people have the balls to scream at you like you’re a child if you run into the locker room to get your stuff out so you can get to work. Membership cancelled. You get what you pay for. My advice, pay a little extra and drive 5 minutes longer and go somewhere that you will be treated like the paying customer you are, Crunch has no concept of this. And if anyone from Crunch is reading this, don’t bother reaching out or responding, you guys need to be shut down and start over.

After joining Crunch Fitness I started working with a personal trainer and continued for several months. The trainer I worked with was promoted and was going to move to OKC to open a new Crunch Fitness. I had already prepaid for the training, and he advised that we could get them completed before he left. A month after he moved to OKC, my wife noticed that we were still being billed for personal training. I spoke with the Manager, Kimberly Gardner, and she told me that she couldn't do anything about it because I "didn't sign anything official". I left and spoke to my trainer again, and he said that this was "not true, I was on a Flex Plan, and he would take care of it". Long story short...Kimberly refused to refund me. I asked to speak with her supervisor, and she claimed she was at the top. I informed her that that would be my last month and she acted as if she could care less. It's Manager's like Kimberly that give gyms a bad reputation.

Report Their License:
Call the MS Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division at 800-281-4418. The AG is the state authority that helps them keep their license and can actually shut them down if they're committing fraud.

Read this first if you are having trouble canceling:

I was told by HR that this location is being investigated for my case, and looking at the pattern in these reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if others were going through the exact same thing. I escalated this, and accountability is finally coming.

Don't bother arguing with local management. In my experience, it was a waste of time because they boldly claimed they had absolutely no record of me ever contacting them. You need to email their superiors to force a paper trail.

MY EXPERIENCE:

I went through this for 6 months and lost hundreds of dollars. I am permanently disabled and called within my first two weeks to cancel. They demanded a certified letter. A corporate policy does NOT override state and federal law. If they have a problem with their own policy, that is their problem. The franchise has the power to change it; it's not our problem. Certainly not one that should cost us financially.

They took hundreds of dollars from me over 6 months while I called and emailed countless times, only for them to boldly deny it ever happened.

Instead of helping, management hid their employee contact info, refused to give me their employee IDs so I could officially complain, and made a poor clerk at the front desk call to handle it.

They offered an ultimatum: they would cancel my membership as a "courtesy," but they were going to keep my money. It was that or nothing at all.

I told them I'm not the one to play with. I had to do all the research on my own, but I finally bypassed the local gym entirely, emailed corporate, got the policy canceled, and got my money back. Those hundreds of dollars may mean nothing to someone who owns a local franchise, but it's a lot to everyday folks living check to check and supporting themselves and families.

ADA Title III (Americans with Disabilities Act):

Refusing a reasonable modification (like an electronic or phone cancellation) for a permanently disabled person is direct, actionable discrimination. Corporate policies do not supersede federal civil rights laws.

FTC Negative Option Rule:

Even if you are not disabled, if you signed up online, federal law dictates you should be able to easily cancel online without coming into the facility.

Mississippi Code § 75-83-3:

Health spas are required to hold a $25,000 surety bond with the state to protect consumers against dishonesty and failure to provide services.

In my personal opinion, I am not surprised by how they acted, given the other reviews for this location. Another reviewer recently wrote:

"0/10 do not recommend. If i could give negative stars I would. They finally canceled my policy after months of telling me they couldn’t cancel because of my balance. It took months of me sending them letters explaining that i was unable to use the membership anymore because of medical reasons... Crunch is not run by honest individuals. For the life of me I will never understand how moral bankruptcy someone has to be to lie to people repeatedly. Scary world we live in."

I completely agree. I can't help but wonder how many other people have gone through something similar. If this review helps someone else, it's worth it.

Email corporate, quote the statutes, and get your money back!

And for the record: it is not slander if it is the truth.

P.S. I already told their superiors they are NOT to contact me again, so don't bother replying to this review. Your actions speak for themselves.

I canceled my personal training on…

I canceled my personal training on January 27 and paid the final $116 on February 20. However, I was later charged the same amount again on March 8, March 20, and April 3.
I’ve sent several emails and called multiple times to try to resolve this, but it’s been very difficult to get in touch, I’ve had to call repeatedly throughout the day just to reach someone. I was able to speak with a coordinator once, who mentioned I would be reimbursed, but I haven’t received any update since.
Just sharing my experience so others are aware and can keep an eye on their billing.

Bait and Switch

I signed up for the free month try out. Ended up never going, decided to stick with Planet Fitness. When my free month was up I tried canceling. They wanted 100$ to cancel. The calls and texts and emails are egregious. Will never suggest to anyone even though I never stepped foot in one.

How can this company have no corporate…

How can this company have no corporate customer service? After putting my daughter’s membership on hold for medical reasons, I called her local gym to extend again and was told ok. Later that month I received a bill and when I called I was told corporate denied this request and I now had to pay an additional month when I cancelled. The local gym has no authority to assist and there is no corporate email or phone number. I guess we know where we won’t be joining again.

Crunch in Ocee has over charged my…

Crunch in Ocee has over charged my account keep giving me the run around in regards to my money for a freeze the trainer was supposed to put which he never did and they went ahead and cancelled without my permission and also added new charges on to my account then offered a refund they sent it then said again they are wrong but still want to keep my money because there is never a manager that can handle this issue how aggravating everything has been as a new member at this gym if a district manager can finally look at my account and call me my number is on the file

I no longer feel safe working out here

I no longer feel safe working out at a gym where staff protect members who lie, insult and harass others because they know each other outside of the gym.
I was a member at Crunch for 5+ years without incident until this happened. I briefly stepped away from equipment (with my belongings still on it) to use the bathroom. When I returned, a woman was using the same equipment. I politely told her I was using it, my stuff was there, and I had no problem working in with her. I even offered to clean the equipment between sets for her. She immediately became hostile and eventually told me to “f*** off.” Her husband came over with the same entitled attitude, saying the manager was his “client” and I “wouldn’t win this argument.” When he brought the manager over, the husband lied and claimed I told his wife to f*** off, the complete opposite of what happened!
Another member witnessed everything. He confronted the woman afterward, and she admitted to him “Yeah maybe I was being too aggressive. I told him to f*** off.” He then came to me and confirmed I did nothing wrong and offered to speak to the manager on my behalf.
Despite having a witness who could verify my account, the manager discouraged reviewing security footage with multiple excuses. He claimed I was gone “4+ minutes” when I was gone for about one minute. I had my membership cancelled while the couple who harassed me and lied to staff faced zero consequences.
I filed a formal complaint with the regional manager over 2 months ago. Multiple follow-ups. Zero response. The manager at Lake Mary protects his friends over doing what’s right and safe for other members. Other members I’ve spoken with at different Crunch locations have also expressed concerns about the management at Lake Mary. A quick look at the ratings compared to other Central Florida locations tells you everything you need to know.
If you’re considering Crunch in Lake Mary, keep this in mind: If this is how management treats a 5-year member with witnesses backing them up, imagine how they’ll treat you when something goes wrong - especially if the conflict is with one of their buddies.

Front Desk Customer Staff (Ms. Bria)

With all public facing enterprise, Crunch Fitness (Waldorf MD. Branch). Provides 100 % customer satisfaction experience for me. As a retired senior citizen with mobility issues: Ms. Bria always provides excellent customer service: gym information- orientation, class /check in, equipment knowledge. She is a 5-star employee! A rare find.

Worst gym !

Worst gym !! I created an account by accident they won't let my cancel , even though I messages repeatedly that I dont use the gym and they refuse to cancel it !!

I joined online biggest mistake ever

I joined online and then got a leg injury right after that it was never able to come in.
So the second month I told them that I want to cancel the membership because I've never used it and that they already got a free month. They told me I got to pay them to cancel this membership. Now why would I have to go to all of these changes to cancel it when it was just simple push a button and join. Now I got to jump through hoops and pay you to cancel the membership that you've already got more benefit out of than I have. They are so shady my son was overseas for a year and he advised them he was overseas and that he couldn't use the membership he was in Kuwait fighting for our country and they wouldn't cancel his membership. They are so shady. I would not recommend that anybody join a membership with them I would rather go to the y and pay double for my membership than to go there which is what I plan to do.

Misleading Advertising and Rude Staff

I was mislead to believe that the 9.99 plan was monthly with no annual commitment on their Instagram page. I purchased this plan, however the workers were mean and the machines were too packed so i went to cancel, and they smacked a charge of 211 dollars to cancel. I went in to ask if anything could be done because I was misled, however the worker did not even try to listen to me and told me to just pay the money and its not too much. I physically am unable to pay this fee so they keep stacking late fees onto my head.

Bad bad people

So, I go in for a membership and Hailey in Eugene, OR, signs me up for a wrong one. After 2 months they still won't fix it or cancel my membership. They are harassing me w endless phone calls, texts, & emails. I've sent out a cease and desist order for both the home gym and corporate. I'm ready to press charges. I've notified the FTC, DOJ, & Medicare. They are shady & make it impossible to cancel. They're rude from the bottom up. Corporate has called me 3 times asking for money that I don't owe. They will not fix their mistake even after 2 months. They have gaslit me about it & that's a form of abuse. So they're discrimating abusive stalkers. I would beware. It's not worth the hassle.

I am writing to share my wonderful experience

I am writing to share my wonderful experience at your gym since it opened on March 18, 2026 (Conroe, TX). I initially came in for the early enrollment offer of $1.00 with no contract obligation and was greeted by a lovely young lady named Riley. She was incredibly knowledgeable and answered all of my questions, which truly sold me on the facility.

As I haven't been in a gym for over 20 years, I mentioned that I was interested in a personal trainer. Riley directed me to the front desk where I met Alvaro Garcia. He was very welcoming and informed me that he was a trainer himself, so I signed up for eight sessions.

A few weeks later, I saw on social media that Alvaro won second place in a competition. I felt so excited and blessed to have him as my trainer. I have only completed four sessions so far, but I can already see a huge difference.

I highly recommend this gym. The classes are great, the facility is very clean, and I appreciate that staff members are constantly sanitizing the equipment. Thank you, Crunch, and especially thank you to Alvaro Garcia for the excellent support.

Going to rate it higher than most

With any gym that is decent and has good equipment when it's busy, it's not necessarily the best time to go. This particular one is in a college town which means before 8:00 a.m. And after 9:00 a.m. on weekdays it's busy. Sundays it's dead and whenever college is out and the kids are partying it's dead when it's not. It could be busy. I go at 8:00 a.m. It's not bad at all. Love this gym. I've done a complete transformation from wearing size 40 to wearing size 29s and 30s. Took my visceral fat from 22 down to three. Took my overall body fat from 36 plus percent down to 10.5... obviously diet does most of the weight loss but maintaining muscle and looking better you get at the gym

Fraud and deception

Just like all the others I signed up for a promotional trial, cancelled 10 days later (for health reasons) and was nailed for a $59.00 annual fee. This appears to be their MO; suck people in with false advertising or bogus promotions and then suck a bunch of fees out when people try to cancel. I have no clue how they've stayed in business with the amount of fraud and theft they perpetrate.

Hidden fees

Classes didn't happen for months. Then with no notification a Annual membership fee of $65 hits. When I asked after 2 months why I'd be charged this they reference me to the small print that WAS NOT mentioned when I signed up.

Do not buy membership to join Crunch

Do not buy membership to join Crunch. My wife cancelled her membership in October 2025. In the meantime a Crunch rep contacted her by phone on at least 3 occasions to see if see would be willing to resume her membership and the Crunch rep was willing to waive her balance and she respectfully declined. In the meantime, Crunch admin and billing did not cancel her membership and continued to bill her and eventually sent her account to a collection agency. She could never reach anyone at Crunch to resolve the issue. Her account was on autopay and she was always completely paid up. It appears that Crunch deliberately refused close her account and kept her account open to scam more money for a membership that no longer exist. A shameful and total scam which will eventually catch up to Crunch when a class action lawsuit is filed. Be advised, STAY AWAY FROM CRUNCH. THEIR BILLING PROCESS IS A TOTAL SCAM!
