Avoid this product, bought a log cabin and like other spend over £600 on paint, thinking this was the best protection and would last. Did 4 layers, with extra care to cover the cracks and inlets in the corners. After 1 year the first sign of weather started to appear, so did another layer on top, but didn't help. Soon after the paint started flaking, so had to resand and repaint with a better product within 2 years. So avoid, this is money down the drain, especially at the twice the price of premium other paints.

After purchasing my cabin in 2018 I, wanting to ensure I gave it the best timber treatment recommended purchased at great expense Carefree Timber Protection (Clear). I gave the cabin 4 coats with special attention to corners log ends and joints. A further 2 coats were applied 2 years later in 2020, another two in 2022. The product works only where there is no exposure to direct rain where its resilience falls away quite quickly, leaving the timber exposed to damage and rot. It doesn't penetrate the wood but simply lies on the surface. Hence the need to keep having to apply additional coats. Despite my best efforts I have rot affecting the first 2 logs (outside only) on the rear corner. I'm seeking advice to see what can be done to stop further damage. I've been advised to apply more Carefree. I'm not convinced that's the answer.

We built a new log cabin last spring and bought carefree clear as it was highly recommended by the cabin seller. After 3 coats,(my husband is a joiner and used to doing such work)and a very wet winter and spring, our beautiful cabin now has grey blue window sills and ledges and even along some of the logs. I am now trying to find a good product to cover it up. Its so hard to get consistent advice. I really regret spending £600 on this product. I thought it was the best. I was wrong.

So I built a log cabin costing £8500. I wanted to treat it with the best possible protection so I ordered this product. I applied 3 coats to the cabin and around 4-5 coats on all the corners. Unfortunately even after thhis amount of treatment nearly all of the corners are letting in water, I don’t have any gaps at all, it’s just soaking into the wood, so now I’m faced with a building I cannot use for the purpose I want because the humidity is at 90% and none of my electrical equipment will work at that level. I’m quite disappointed as I’ve spent over £700 on paint and I’m left with a building I cannot use
UPDATE - after more coats it is clear to me that this product does not penetrate the wood really at all.. it just flakes off… so after 4 coats I have a lot of flaked paint and bare wood.. AVOID if you want your log cabin to last longer than a few years

Great product & helpful service. Bought from Netherlands to be shipped to UK. They are UK VAT registered & even paid the import duty when UPS held delivery. Unfortunately so did I to get the shipment so not Craefree's fault - in fact they went above & beyond to help me. Would give them 6 stars if I could.

De verf met de beste kwaliteit. Geweldige service en toch betaalbaar. De eerste keer dat ik dit product gebruikte was ik positief verrast door de uitmuntende constante kwaliteit. Het was een nieuwe ervaring want hiervoor had ik nog nooit zo’n goed werkende verf gebruikt. Op blank hout dekte het in 1 keer. Steen kleurt en is direct beschermd met dit product. Ik heb zwart gebruikt en kan me alleen maar voorstellen hoe goed ook de andere kleuren zullen werken. Met roller of kwast, het kan beide. Ik beveel dit product aan en wanneer jij het zelf heb gebruikt zul je mijn ervaring delen.

Had some early delivery issues due to courier being unable to ship to the UK (Brexit related perhaps). Customer services dealt with the issue promptly and kept me informed of progress at all times. Product itself is brilliant. Cabin looks great and confident it will protect it when the weather turns.

First class product and first class service

I ordered this product following recommendations by a UK log cabin company I'd bought from. They raved about it and I thought I'd splash out and buy it to protect my new cabin.
I've ordered the transparent and it hasn't spoiled the natural colour of the wood - if anything it's given the original wood (which was a stark blonde colour) a slight warm honey colour.
The transparent protectant is a little difficult to see where you've actually done so I had to keep remembering where I'd got to in order to avoid going over the same pieces loads of times. Strangely, once the first coat was on, it was actually easier to see subsequent coats going on.
It has rained (heavily) since I've coated my cabin and the water really does just roll off it without soaking into the wood - very impressed.
The one thing I'm hoping will change over time is the stickiness. Even 2 weeks after applying and leaving items indoors to dry, they still feel a bit tacky but maybe because I've put 3 coats on it takes that bit longer to 'cure'?
I don't think I got as much out of it (per square metre) as they reckon you get and therefore I had to order 2 more tins than anticipated which was a bit surprising, but when you're paying a lot of money for a structure that you want to last I guess there's no point in skimping.
Ordered directly from Holland on a Saturday afternoon and it was with me (via DPD) on the Tuesday morning - brilliant customer service and it was actually cheaper to order directly from Holland and pay the higher shipping fees, than order though the UK log cabin company's website where I originally found this product!
Great product, great service, however lost 1 star for the stickiness and lower yield per square metre than anticipated (which made it very expensive).
