Having held a Britline account for over 25 years, I have been extremely happy with the personal service and support of their team. David M, and more recently Pascale, have helped me through opening and closing accounts, dealing with house purchase and sale, insurance and dealing with life’s ups and downs. I highly recommend them. It was a leap in the dark to join a “remote” branch in 2000 when moving to France but my family always felt confident with Crédit Agricole Normandie and Britline.

Incredibly slow, archaic and frustrating to use compared to modern standards exhibited almost on every other platform. The positive reviews must come from people that never do anything for themselves! I will be leaving ASAP

AVOID! This CA branch has just tried to force us to migrate onto a "service package" at twice the cost of their standard tariff, which they say does not apply to the Britline branch, despite the tariff having the Britline logo all over it. So, I have taken my business elsewhere and have already opened accounts and got a debit card at virtually no cost at all. AVOID!

I have banked with BRITLINE in NORMANDIE for more than 20 Years
The service has been faultless throughout. Whether language, technical or banking support, BRITLINE and all the staff are excellent.
Sadly, they leave the British banks that we use with much to do to catch

tried to close the account in 2023. Every letter was ignored by the bank! I gave all details necessary to close the account. Then I was send the paperwork to close the account, which I promptly filled out and returned, but nothing happened! They are still sending bank statements to the email account, which I cannot open, because I no longer have a French phone number and so they arrive in the spam folder!
MY ADVISE : LEAVE ONLY THE MONEY IN THE ACCOUNT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOOSE, they will ignore every request to close your account and are just wasting your time!

I have always had a certain distrust of financial institutions in general, so choosing a bank when leaving the UK to live abroad was not something I took lightly. However, my experience with Britline over the last six years has been consistently positive.
Before moving to France, I transferred my life savings to Britline, and throughout my time there they supported me through both the purchase and eventual sale of my French property. I have since moved to Spain and still intend to maintain my accounts with them for savings purposes.
Over the years, and through some very significant financial transactions, I have always received personal attention from English-speaking consultants via phone and email. Communication has consistently felt natural, friendly, and genuinely human — never robotic or overly officious.
My current dealings are with Sophie Dumbleton, who is naturally pleasant and clearly takes pride in helping customers, even in more complicated situations. That personal approach really makes a difference.
I genuinely struggle to think of any time when I have had cause for complaint, which says a great deal about how well-run the organisation is overall. Even the app being partially in English is a helpful touch.
I did initially question the monthly banking fees, as UK residents are often unused to paying them. However, I now appreciate that the fees reflect the level of support, security, and English-language assistance provided. In my opinion, the modest cost is absolutely worthwhile for the reassurance and service received.

Dave Metcalfe at Britline handled our mortgage here in France with such professionalism, above and beyond what you would expect from any bank. He is a terrific advisor in every way and also a genuinely nice person! He listened, responded with kindness, was totally transparent and kept us up to the minute with the whole process. I could not recommend Britline, and especially Dave, more highly. They also sorted our life insurance, home insurance and we also used their money exchange service BIPS to wire our deposit. All fantastic services, best prices and easy to complete. If you are from the UK, US, Ireland or anywhere that Britline serves and you are coming to live, work, buy property in France, Britline should be your first and only choice for all of your banking needs.

Ma responsable de service, Bea, fait vraiment honneur à l'équipe : elle comprend les besoins de ses clients, elle est à l'écoute et prête à aider. J'ai le sentiment que mes intérêts sont pris en compte et que je suis un client apprécié. À l'heure actuelle, où les centres d'appels et les interlocuteurs anonymes sont légion, c'est agréable de savoir qu'on peut appeler son responsable ou parler directement à un membre de l'équipe, et qu'ils savent tous vous mettre à l'aise.

When moving to France from Mallorca, where I had lived for a bit more than twenty years, one of the decisions I had to make was finding a bank. I had been lucky in Mallorca to have a very competent bank to work with and I was concerned that in France, it might be difficult to find one that equals the service and banking experiences I had been having. And then I opened an account with Britline. That was two years ago, and over these past two years, I have had nothing but exceedingly good experiences with Britline. Your people are more than accommodating and helpful. I thank you for being so customer-focused.
