My wife and I had a wonderful birding experience on this 14 day Sulawesi trip led by Sulawesi Jack with excellent local guides as well. Jack is brilliant at finding key birds and planning an itinerary designed to maximize opportunities to see the Sulawesi endemics. He has quite a personality and we really enjoyed traveling with him.

We started at Lore Lindu NP. Accommodations here were very basic, but well worth it as we encountered numerous endemics in the park--many that we did not see anywhere else on the island. I should note that accommodations and food were excellent during the remainder of the trip.

From there we flew South to Makasar. Although this was a one night stand, birding in the Karst habitat here was very rewarding.

We then flew to Manado in Northern Sulawesi where we spent three nights in wonderful Tangkoko NP. We had two full birding days in the park and it was amazing. Many new birds here (not to mention tarsiers, etc.) and because this area has been protected, they are much more forthcoming. So lots of great looks and photo opps with a host of endemics.

We then did a 6-hr long drive to Dumogabone NP. This and the return made for a lot of driving--but gave us the experience of the trip: spending a day watching the spectacular and rare Maleo. Many approached close to the hide we were in and we were able to observe them laying and burying eggs.

We wrapped up our trip in Tomohon birding the Mt Mahawu forest. We birded here two full days, but most of the birds here we had seen in the Lore Lindu habitat. If there is one thing I might change in the itinerary, it would be to spend one more day in Tangkoko and one less in Tomohon.

As a birding enthusiast and amateur photographer I like to get at least 1 day looking at the birds wherever I go and we were in Tokyo. Koh Kawabe was our guide and he was an excellent birder! Not only that, he helped me find the right light and angle for trying to capture the birds I saw with my camera. We did a full day tour from 7am-7pm where we went to 4 different habitats around Tokyo from city parks, to the bay, and to the marsh. I added 60 birds to my life list in our one day exploring. Koh was so nice and patient to make sure we saw the birds we were after. He arrived early, had all of our transportation arrangements made which included taxis and car. Took into account our eating preferences - even visiting a local ice cream place. My favorites were the Falcated and Manderin Ducks. Koh worked hard to help us get a good view of the over 1000 baikal teals that were too far for me to see (even with the scope). We tried different angles from the marsh but the birds kept moving away. We did however get a pair of Green Pheasants in the process. We were even able to get a brown headed thrush hiding in the bushes. I highly recommend a day in Tokyo and Koh as your guide.

We have a wonderful time together with Fernando,who is such a birder that shown us all the beautiful birds and ducks😍🇸🇬💕😘

I booked an 11-night birding tour of Zimbabwe, incorporating Harare, the Angwe river in the north and the Honde valley in the east of the country.
All administration activities prior to the tour were handled professionally and seamlessly by Jenna.
The birding experience itself exceeded all my expectations.
Reece was an outstanding guide and a pleasure to share long days with, in the vehicle, birding in the bush and marshes, and after hours.
He really did go the extra mile, and hence found me 39 lifers, 70% of my wish list for the region.
He was ably assisted in the north by local guide McKenzie, the African Pitta specialist of the area.
In the east local guide Morgan was really excellent in tracking down the lowveld specials more usually found in Mozambique.

The Guides and co-ordination of a small glitch by Birding Pantanal were top notch. Got every bit as many new birds as I had hoped.

Details: I engaged with the BirdingDirect team to cover one day each at Arusha National Park and the dry Maasai Steppe region east of Arusha. Guide (Nasr) and driver (Joel) were super-prompt, vehicle was clean and well-supplied with drinks and lunch, and, most importantly, we were able to rack up big species totals - in excess of 120 species on both days due to Nasr's skill and determination getting us on the birds. In just one highlight, I had professed hope that we see a Hartlaub's Turaco at Arusha, and Nasr worked tirelessly to find this bird until the final moments of our day as the sun began to dip towards the horizon, when we were finally able to connect with one. Thanks again to Birding Direct for making my first two days on the African continent a memorable kick-off to my African experience!

We had a great 2-day tour out of Cape Town, South Africa with Geoff, who is both knowledgeable and personable. We loved the overnight accommodation at Bloomestate, which was very peaceful and offered a delicious breakfast. All the places we visited were very birdy. Geoff was flexible enough to go back to Rooi-els a second time for the Cape Rockjumper, which we missed on our first try. We found all my target birds, and I saw about 38 lifers over the 2 days.

Our trip to Sri Lanka was fantastic! Birdingdirect got us a guide whose 2 week tour was a well oiled machine. We got all the endemics by day 12 plus many, many more species. The accommodations were good and the food tasty. Our guide Chinthaka has a great network of scouts who found all the owl day roosts before we showed up. Then it was a matter of touring the area going from roost to roost. We were in a variety of different ecosystems to maximize our number of species. Plus, he was a pleasant and lovely traveling companion. Also a shout-out to our skilled driver. Truly one of the best tours we've ever taken.

I don't like writing negative reviews but in this case others should be warned.
Having paid this company over €400 per day for an all-inclusive three week holiday, they put us in way-below-standard accommodation, (average price per night €40, dirty sheets on three different occasions, including once with pubic hairs from previous occupants), with way-below-standard food, (average price per day for two pax €15, with food poisoning on two different occasions), and way-below-standard transport - and to top it all off one of their drivers smashed our camera lens causing over €800 damage.
Their response to our complaint? A voucher towards our next trip with them - as if that's ever going to happen!
They boast that they know the locals and connect you with a local company, and that's all true, but it means no more than that. You'll just be paying two companies rather than one. Very sadly it was apparent that they'd never experienced what we had to go through.
It was certainly no holiday. Simply an experience that we hope never to have to undertake again and certainly not worth the money we paid.

I was travelling to Costa Rica on short notice and had a target list of difficult birds and limited time. I was connected with guides in Costa Rica who came up with an itinerary with sites for all of the birds on my list, even mythical birds like Maroon-chested Ground Dove and Gray-headed Piprites, both of which were seen. I could not have been happier with how this turned out.

I booked Diego via Birding Direct for an 8 day tour of Costa Rica targeting their endemic and regional endemics. Diego was an amazing host and guide. I gave him a list of some difficult target birds and we were successful with most (hearing or seeing). Over the 8 days, we saw 302 species of which 169 were life birds for me. Diego did a wonderful job setting up the circuit we took and was great with communications. Diego was had incredibly helpful advice in me capturing a photo of one of my targets (a displaying Sunbittern) and worked tirelessly to get the bird. I would recommend Diego to anyone who is serious about getting to places in CR that other nature tours would overlook.

It was great birding with Geoff in South Africa and it was really easy to find a bird guide. Highly recommended.

We had a superb trip to Guyana organised by Birding Dirtect and with Ron Allicock Birding tours

We had an outstanding trip with a trip list of just under 400 species in total. Highlights were probably too numerous to mention, but some of the birding highlights included Sun Parakeet, Red Siskin, Rio Branco Antbird, Hoary-throated Spinetail, and Harpy Eagle (which we managed to luck into on our last day!).

Night birds were excellent, with 21 species in total and
Crakes also performed well including absolutely stunning views of Ocellated Crake running around at our feet!

Another highlight was birding at an antswarm, with lots of White-plumed Antbirds, woodcreepers etc and a stunning Rufous-winged Ground Cuckoo.

Other wildlife also provided great spectacles - Anaconda, Giant Anteater, Giant Otter just some among them. Birding in a country with such friendly people and large areas of unspoilt wilderness was an absolute dream

Ron Allicock and his team were brilliant - setting up, planning and executing an outstanding trip in a fantastic country with brilliant birds.

We really enjoyed the trip and above all we had plenty of laughs!!

Our guide, Hugo, a local guide was excellent on this 10-day tour. He is knowledgeable about the birds and habitats. Hugo assisted at checkin and with getting us situated and translated as needed at lodges and restaurants. Each lodge offered unique features and was comfortable. Challenging driving conditions were handled expertly by our driver, Leo. I highly recommend this tour of Bolivia. Each participant was welcomed personally by phone from Michel—a nice touch—as well as at departure. Pre-prep communications by email from Michel were timely and comprehensive. Well-done!

Can't recommend this birding direct approach enough. You get the same quality of service as expected from a Rockjumper trip but a more personalized and tailored experience just for you. Our guide (Lev) was exceptional and his local knowledge and contacts got us on our targets.

We enjoyed our birding trip with guide Yeray. He was first class, very knowledgeable and great company for the day. The visit to La Janda area was excellent for bird sightings and went smoothly from collection to drop off at the cruise terminal in Cadiz . Highly satisfied.

Thank you for putting together an amazing trip to Northern Colombia for me! Cristian was fantastic, we had great looks at the majority of the endemic target species. He also introduced me to some great local food and fruit and gave me regular history lessons on Colombia and its people.
