Lots of very usefull tips and techniques.

In the three hour watercolour beginner’s workshop I learned so much from Sharon about how to work using this medium. I left feeling more confident and looking forward to getting paint on to paper again. Sharon explained everything so clearly and gave really constructive feedback on my work. I would certainly recommend this workshop to anyone looking for a starting point to take up working with watercolour.

Wonderful weekend of painting with Sharon. The setting of the studio is inspirational, it is so beautiful. Sharon is a very talented teacher and explains everything she is doing step by step. She helps you to correct mistakes and I have learnt so much from her, my techniques are slowly improving. Highly recommended

I really enjoyed the two day watercolour retreat. I am a relative beginner, having been attending weekly classes at a local college for just two terms. The format was perfect for me - covering materials and techniques in a formal but friendly way helped land some of the things I'd been missing. I also loved the range of techniques Sharon incorporated in the two floral pieces we worked on. I felt like I had the time and the support to develop my knowledge and produce two paintings I really like. There was plenty of time for chatting about every subject under the sun, in a beautiful setting in the deepest Herefordshire countryside.

Had a wonderful 2 days painting animals that I didn’t think I could. Learnt great techniques to draw and paint.

The art courses run by Sharon at Backbury House Retreats are excellent. Sharon leads our small group through all the techniques required for watercolour painting. She goes into great detail and helps if we are unsure.

Sharon is an excellent teacher... although I found the basic drawing workshop challenging, thanks to her guidance and help, I did leave feeling I'd achieved something I didn't think I could.

I received prompt & helpful information from Backbury House Retreats when I booked a half day watercolour painting workshop for early July. When I have completed the workshop I will be able to comment more fully.

It doesn’t matter what level you feel you are at you always receive excellent teaching and guidance throughout each lesson. A wonderful way to relax and be creative.

The autumn nature journalling course....a perfect weekend retreat!

A warm and friendly welcome was followed by a mindful walk through the fields and woodland with a stop for sketching and lunch. The remainder of the course focused on developing the watercolour sketch and learning other creative techniques using our photos as a starting point.

Sharon has a passion for art and creativity which is energising. Her skills and experience are evident in how she teaches participants and helps to improve their confidence.

Backbury House is set in an idyllic location which was perfect for the course. I returned home feeling like I had recharged my batteries and full of creative ideas to continue my nature journel. I will definitely be returning for another creative course!

It was a friendly workshop in which we learned lots of information about painting with watercolours. We then put it to good use and I painted my first Robin, which I am very proudly of. Thank you Sharon, you explained the different painting methods very well.

Beginners watercolour class - very good instruction for beginners, I have some experience but I learnt techniques along with the other students.
Very nice venue, welcoming tutor, I have signed up for a 10 week course.

The course has given me so much joy. I have learnt a great deal about watercolour and Sharon has been a fabulous teacher. Such a lovely environment also to do it in. Would highly recommend. Lucy

Excellent tuition and friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Photography taster session. Due to other participants having to reschedule I received one to one tutoring. It was a most enjoyable afternoon, the information given was easy to understand and delivered by someone who understands teaching.
