Very Disappointed and Won’t Return
I attended few days ago the Aston Barclay car auction in Chelmsford and left extremely dissatisfied. A lot of the cars there are selling for significantly more than the market prices on sites like Auto Trader and other platforms, which makes it hard to see any real value for money, especially when you can’t test drive or properly inspect the vehicles before bidding.
Most buyers around me seemed to be traders rather than retail customers, and I struggle to believe even they are making decent deals at these prices. With the way prices are being bid up, there’s very little margin left, and it feels like people are just paying over the odds because of the auction format itself.
I wonder if there is a government to…
I wonder if there is a government to see all these comments and stop this dodge company ( Aston barclay) from looting people with their dodge cars?
Beware
Beware on full AA..Assured report have got rid of engine noise smoke or other issues and have corrected with engine running only basically if engine is banging rattling smoking will not be covered.
We all know it's running if it wasn't would be a none runner.
Have to specify if it has above issues in other observations preferable.
As a Motor dealer recently had an issue which is in process of legal proceedings .
Had put a claim for engine vibration loud clunking noise on engine running not correctly & other observations on assured report was told not covered because engine is running and don't cover for engine noise.
Depends if you bought 80 cars a year would look at it differently but if you bought 20 cars a year would not be covered discrimination.
Keep away from this Auction waste of time,No stock,
AA Assured is the biggest CON should not be allowed.
Wait till it changes to BCA if it's allowed ????
Absolute fraudsters
People be warned!! This company are nothing but fraudsters, I brought a car on an online auction, drove 3.5 hours to collect the vehicle to find out the car does not drive. Their AA inspections are absolutely useless, probably didn’t take place, their descriptions of the sale vehicles mean nothing as the cars are NOT inspected, I’ve been told my claim is rejected this has taken 2 weeks and that I shall not get a refund. I’m in the process of a small claims procedure, you cannot trust anything these people say, they are deceitful and very very unhelpful. I’d advise everyone to stay well away. There are plenty of other platforms to buy cars where companies are honest. Aston Barclay is not one of them.
Used to be good but now complete frauds.
Used to be good but now complete fraudsters. Bought a car after writing mine off, from them. Bought cars from them in the past but never had a problem. Then they changed their procedures and practices after covid. Claimed the car was AA checked but it broke down on me a few days later. That’s when AA visited and told me that not only was the control unit cloned, but it also had been in a flood. All their electronics are messed up. Towed it to a garage who said it was beyond economical repair as it’s going to cost £4000+. Tried to speak to the Auction about it who said I have no claim. Despite it being falsely advertised. Out of pocket, no car for work, and hospital appointments. Disabled and out of money and transport. AA confirmed the car was never checked by them although they did have a call from the company the morning of my purchase but no service were offered after the call.
BE WARNED SCAMMERS.
BE WARNED SCAMMERS.
I have had a trade account a good few yrs. Purchased from various locations. Until now. Purchased a vehicle with a AA inspection and warranty. No faults all ticked green. Collected car. Timing chain rattling it's head off, drove out the gates. Lit up like a Christmas tree. 4wd faults. Turbo under boost. Clutch faulty can't change gear without foot on floor then can hardly select 1sr 2nd and reverse. Phoned the branch told to claim on a form.csr in limp AA came out working for them said no faults. Even though lights on dashboard. ABSOLUTE CON ARTISTS. Would not refund. Took it to the bank got a charge back. Someone collected it for Aston barlcay who said the car knackered as he tried to put it on a trailer. They put it back in a different auction then closed my account. Why you ask. Because I returned a car. Laughable. They will scam you unless you take them to court like I did. They wouldn't just take it back and leave it at that. Be warned they clear faults before the auction.
Great company to deal with…
Great company to deal with big thank you to Jo for always being so helpful and all the girls in the office kind regards Ian Ware Octagon southern Ltd
worst car auction ever
worst car auction ever, with hidden fees. I bought a Vauxhall for £600 hammer price, then the fees come up to £435 which is around 70% of car price. absolutely outrageous, when asked the customer service what is the logice for these fees so when I am bidding I know how much would be the fees, she said every car has different fees and we can't tell how much is the fees until you win the bid. don't rely on fees advertised on website because it isn't true. I bid on another car BMW for £6700 then after fees it came to £8600 luckily I didn't buy it, as the car is worth £8000 at private dealer with guarantee. who knows their car has engine fault then another few grand on repair.
Worst company ever the AA inspections…
Worst company ever the AA inspections are nothing more than to earn money from you and not worth the paper they’re written on the cars are old scrap that cannot be sold anywhere else nothing more than scrap dealers play hide faults and turn off engine management lights
a neutral honest review
This company does have some good stock, and you can get good stock nice clean cars at a good price. I wanted to come write these guys a review because their staff are really friendly nice people, they have always been super polite with me. I can understand people’s frustrations on these reviews, the auction is fast pace, and making mistakes on our own behalf is quite easy even for an experienced buyer. They are easy going and will let you pop the hood and take a look when the cars are in que to get into the lane, which can be a huge help. The fast pace is what can catch a lot of people out, it is easy to miss a marker on a report, also the AA checks can miss certain things that maybe you can pick up with the limited time you can see the car running. Logistically you can’t expect these guys to go give every vehicle a comprehensive check they don’t have time for that, they are turning over a lot of vehicles on a weekly basis. At the same time I can understand customers frustration, what I will say is that cars that are part exchanged with major issues will a lot of the time have telltale signs on certain history checks along with physical checks. To be fair to them if you know what you are doing as I said they are quite relaxed with you checking the vehicle over at the right opportunity. If you were specifically interested in a slightly more valuable car they would most probably let you come a day before & take a look, I’m sure if they know your face and you call to request it. They are really friendly nice people, I can only imagine the type of situations they deal with from upset customers on a regular basis and despite that, they treat you with respect. They also let the public come and buy which helps a lot when your self employed. My advice is, if you are not experienced in the motor trade or mechanics this is not the place for you, you can’t expect to go obtain a vehicle at a large discount to what it would be on a dealers forecourt, and obtain all the safety nets a dealers forecourt offers, that’s just not how the motor trade works. We are taking huge risks ourselves, a lot of these cars on forecourts have had work done on them to make them right, and ultimately these factors are what makes in most cases the prices lower than it’s resale or retail price. If you make a mistake learn from it. This company is a good tool for those who know how to use them, it is a minefield for those whom are inexperienced. That’s a really neutral ground review I can give! Hope to see you guys soon if I can get these cars flipped quick!
THE MOST AWFUL AUCTION COMPANY I HAVE WORKED WITH IN 50 YEARS
This auction company deliberately hid a serious problem with a car we purchased, £2,500 worth of problem, the Assured scheme is just worthless. We have bought in the last 6 months 6 cars and 5 have serious faults, two needing engines, now the latest needing a gearbox. Please avoid at all costs, they are charlatans, which is a very polite description of them and their business practices.
UPDATE Following their appeals process, THEY DO NOT CHECK IF A GEARBOX IS WORKING THEY ONLY CHECK IT WHEN STATIONARY, HERE IS A TRANSCRIPT OF THEIR REFUSAL OF OUR APPEAL. 3.4 In the respect of the Scheme regarding the operation of a vehicle’s gearbox will differ depending upon the type of gearbox fitted to the vehicle. Claims will only be considered when there is a fault, as described below, that is apparent when the vehicle is stationary, and the engine is running: 3.4.2 Where an automatic gearbox is fitted, one or more of the gears that is indicated on the gate as being available for manual selection cannot be engaged with the engine running.
Absolute shambles of a company
Absolute shambles of a company. Issued with the car not declared on the report. Unhappy to help, literally impossible to speak any sense into them. Plenty of other great auctions to use id stay well clear of this one
Assured is a joke
Assured scheme run by opteven uk is a complete rubbish. you have no choice in having to pay, and they do not ever honour there assurance. 2 items that was assured on my purchase, no warning lights, fluid levels.
the assurance is for 250 miles, yet i had trouble within 10 mile and they still refused my claim. no explanation no communication and no pay out. disgraceful way to treat customers.
December collection at 4.45pm in the dark
Man came to collect my car on December 2 2024.
I was ready at 8 am. Man came at 4.45 pm. It was cold and very dark.
He spent 1 3/4 hours taking pictures in the dark of my car. Price agreed beforehand but he knocked £200 off for a slight scuff on front bumper which I never saw.
Not impressed . Would avoid useing these people again.
Very poor and dodgy company bought it…
Very poor and dodgy company bought it car they mentioned engine noisy when we received car engine is not working at all a d there is not a single drop of engine oil in the car even car was assured when we claim they refused 2nd time bad experience with this dodgy company need to avoid in future
assured by opteven uk
assured by opteven uk who hide behind aston barclay
who charge you for an assurance worth nothing.
never pay out is the only assurance they should be giving.
AA Assured Cowboys report is totally useless.
Terrible service. AA Assured report was all good. No faults. All green ticks. As soon as I left the auction gates engine light came on and coil lights and car had very little power. AA came out to check the car and 2 days later claim was rejected.
Here’s why..”EML not illuminated at the time of initial inspection- The Assured report is an accurate reflection of the vehicle at the time of inspection.
In line with our terms and conditions, the identified components are not covered under the buyer guarantee scheme
The condition of the vehicle has not been preserved 03 miles have been covered between claim and validation”….!
0.3 miles has been covered. What a joke. If the AA report at the auction had shown an engine light or fault I can understand not being able to make a claim because it was visible on the auction day but the pure fact it was all clear then 3 faults occurred would make me believe I had a valid claim. If you can’t claim against faults that occur then why have the report in the first place. There’s no need to claim if the cars all good.. Absolute joke.
Aston Barclay truly impressed me with…
Aston Barclay truly impressed me with their electric vehicle expertise. Their product knowledge was top-notch, making the whole process smooth and informative. I also appreciated the on-site chargers—there was no stress about finding a charger before leaving. Aston Barclay is the real deal when it comes to EVs!
I can’t believe I can’t give no stars
I can’t believe I can’t give no stars! AA assurance an absolute waste of time, car only got less than a mile before it went bang!
Couldn’t see for smoke!
AA Assurance said not covered as the car was not checked under load!
Absolute thieves!
Bought car with assured report and been…
Bought car with assured report and been all tick green.when we went to pick the car engine was blown and had big knocking noise and management light was on. So we decided not pick up the car and leave it in auction ,try to claim through AA after 1 months been rejected and said we are not looking to check or listen to knocking noise but only engine check light . If you want to buy car my advice not to relay on AA assured report as they not checking vehicle at all.).avoid at all cost.
