When I signed up, it gave me a 7 day trial and the website indicated $143.94 billed annual. However, the amount in the invoice was $172.73. I don't feel the company is honest.

I don't understand why artists would…
I don't understand why artists would get involved with such a scam company. Complete garbage.
It's also a common practice of scammy companies to actively seek out reviewers and offer lame replies that do nothing to solve the problem.
Enjoy that $105 you stole from me.
Stay VERY far away from ArtistWorks.

Anyone wanting to learn look at all these negative reviews. Unless you are an accomplished pianist you will be nothing but frustrated with these lessons.
I wish I had read these reviews before…
I wish I had read these reviews before I signed up. The auto renew policy is a scam. I'm pretty sure I turned off the auto renew because I usually check that first when I sign up for anything and after my three month subscription period ended I tried to login and got an access denied message so I assumed it was because my membership had ended. I was sent an email to renew and didn't because I felt it was not worth the money. A MONTH later I was hit with an auto renew fee! It seems that from reading these reviews Artistworks refuses to address this issue with others who have had the same problem.

This is a bit of a mixed feelings review
This is a bit of a mixed feelings review. I've signed up for a year of lessons with George Whitty Jazz Piano. As i was a member of his previous website, which i really liked, i signed up for this without hesitation. The first impression on Artistworks was great. Concise, clear and easy to follow lessons for any level, backing tracks, notation and direct interaction with the artist. I just really wished i had time to actually delve into it, which due to my girlfriend being seriously ill for most of 2019, i hardly could.
So in summary, from what little material i could study, i'd recommend this website, and George Whitty at least, to anyone with serious Jazz Keyboard/piano aspirations.

So far I've been just checking the AW website for complementing or expanding jazz piano studies for my son. It occurred to me that I should look up some reviews, and I am left wondering how musicians of the caliber as John Patitucci and other world class musicians can lend their names to what apparently seems to be a shady business administration. I guess they get things straight or they will loose this world class artist from their faculty. For the time being I am going to pass on AW.

The site becomes very difficult to navigate once cancellation and refund policies issues are raised. It feels very deliberate and obvious that once payment is made then there is no customer support.
And just to add to the poor service I have had the generic reply from Artistworks that they seem to send everyone about the auto renew system (which is not what I reviewed about). They seem to do this in order to try and draw the person reading these reviews away from the actual subject.. Very poor and it is reflected in all these 1 and 2 star ratings they are getting

Why the subscription renewal at all on a 3-month course? It's confusing. ArtistWorks should delete that and offer a renewal after the 3-month period.
I had signed up for a 3-month course in ukulele playing but found that I was getting what I needed. At the end of 3-months an email popped up from Artistworks asking me to extend my membership and to click the button below to do so. Well, that clearly sounds to me that if you don't want it extended, then you shouldn't click that button. I think Artistworks does not do a very good job at wording their contract. They will say, "Well, you clicked the automatic renewal part" without explaining that this would mean you would continue to pay and pay until you turned that off. It's obvious that others have had this same problem. It's clearly an issue that Artistworks needs to address if they want to receive decent reviews.

My wife purchased a gift certificate online as a Christmas Gift for me. Second day of my trying to get this to work. Promo code is invalid. No help from their online request service. Poor customer service
I feel deceived by them …
I feel exactly the same way as previous reviewers about the auto-renewal. Without realizing that this was going to happen, and with no warning whatsoever, $179.00 was charged to my credit card. And of course, the "refund policy" is no refunds. Although there may have been mention of this when I signed up 6 months ago, who's going to remember when there are no reminders? The way this was handled, I feel I've been taken advantage of. Its too bad, because the drum lessons and materials are pretty good. The management style feels slippery and deceitful. Once they've deceived you, basically, taken advantage of your trust, there is no recourse. SCAMARTISTWORKS feels more appropriate at this point.

Auto-Renew is a SCAM
I used this program once several years ago and had a fairly good experience. I decided I would try it again this November for one three-month period. When I used this program before, you would need to actively purchase each new three-month session. Little did I know (as it is very purposefully not advertised this way) that I would be charged on an auto-renew policy.
This is profoundly upsetting. I feel cheated and lied to. What a deceitful company.
They will claim that they are "an internet content provider" akin to "netflix and hulu", yet these companies are charging a fraction of what Artistworks charges and are much more upfront about their renewal process.
I hope I will be able to be refunded for this absurd treatment.

Oh my gosh..
Oh my gosh... I wish I had read these reviews before signing up for this. HORRIBLE experience trying to get the auto-renew cancelled.
When I go in to reset my password and access my account to cancel the auto-renew, they tell me again and again that my password reset key is 'invalid'. It is MADDENING working with this company. Total scam.
I am in the process of disputing this with my credit card company... they went through the trouble of sending info back to my company claiming that they had been in contact with me, but wouldn't go to the trouble of returning my phone calls.
Do not be suckered in to this company. Still waiting for my $279 back and for them to let me cancel the auto-renew. Wish I'd never been a part of this company

Artistworks is a unique learning…
Artistworks is a unique learning experience that allows schedule flexibility and a no travel learning environment, but it’s not without some drawbacks and shortcomings.
The website is the complex communication tool that makes the whole thing work. It contains lessons in video and pdf form, all your uploaded video lessons and yes, everybody else’s too. Running forums, special interview and events videos, and extra content like play along videos and comments on nearly every aspect of media that’s there, pretty complicated and for the most part it runs well. Strictly website speaking, sometimes the videos are a little slow to load and some content seems hidden in out of the way places but it’s there and there is a ton of great content and its updated pretty regularly.
Everyone seems to love the instructors. Patient, helpful, and knowledgeable are what comes to mind.
Policy and customer service seem to be the weak point at Artistworks. You can read their own reply to a student here complaining about the auto renew CC charge policy and to sum up their own words; that’s the way we do it, you should have read the small print. Maybe AW thinks it’s going to provide a good experience with a policy like this instead of an email a month before asking for input and a renewal. In AW defense, students can go into their account section and turn off auto renew. My own single CS experience was disappointing too. I had a technical question about the website, not able to access part of it, that I posted in a CS forum. The question was not answered for over a week and I eventually emailed AW and they replied apologizing for overlooking the forum question and that I was currently blocked from certain areas because my current subscription (a more expensive 3 month vs a 12 month) didn’t come with that access to that content. It was a gift from a relative to boot. I believe AW ignored my forum question so they didn’t have to come out and state it in public. To reinforce this belief, I looked through previous questions and found another instance of a student asking the same question and the AW answer was never posted.
The actual process is this, instructor assigns a lesson video with tablature or sheet music. You practice until you think you can perform it good enough, make a video and submit it. Instructor watches video and makes a new video with comments for improvement etc. and a new lesson, repeat. There’s really 2 huge advantages to the system, 1 is schedule, whenever you’re ready, you can make a video, 24/7 and the instructor as well and 2, you get access to some real talent that would otherwise be out of reach. Of course you don’t have to leave your home either. The bit of downside to the system is making the videos and the waiting time for a response. Most figure out the video thing and live with the response time. Sometimes it’s a couple of days, usually 4-5 and a couple times I’ve waited a week or more but.... but the instructors are professional musicians and have always posted there schedule so you know it may take a while.
I think I’ve painted an honest picture here. If schedule flexibility and access to talent is important to you, then AW might be for you.
ArtistWorks auto-renew is a BAD policy
ArtistWorks auto-renew is a BAD policy. Leaves the customer feeling robbed if they forget. Plus it's just pure corporate greed driving it.

Automatic Renewal
The lessons are great and good for people like me, who have no one around to teach them their instrument of choice. However, the "fine print" of automatic renewal of lessons every three months is a joke and feels like a rip off. I wish I would have read these reviews beforehand, as I am not the only one who has had this happen. On top of that ArtistWorks has not called me back nor written me back via email. I feel completely ignored and would just like my refund. Lessons are great, Artistworks scam policy is horrific and no way to run a business.

Very happy with this service
Very happy with this service. Changed my playing entirely. George Whitty is an amazing teacher. He has really figured it out. Very clearly presented and the feedback on videos was great too. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to hit the ground running as a Jazz musician. the only downside is that technically it's a little hard to upload videos from an iphone. but perhaps they have come up with a technical solution.
Best Piano lessons to learn thoroughly
I've had and continue to have, exceptional piano lessons from the Classical and Popular Piano Schools at Artistworks, having joined at the end of 2011. I could hardly play anything when I first began, and now I play at Grade 4 level, have taken a board exam and done a recital (duet) which I never believed I could do before I joined. Bear in mind you need to put in the time and effort to progress, as with anything worthwhile doing. I also believe the visual nature of the lessons via video and the Video Exchange program has got a lot to do with my progress as well.
Above everything else though, the teachers through their passion and expertise, have instilled in me, a permanent joy of playing the piano and have connected me to family, friends and other people in the most positive of ways!
As far as billing was concerned in the past, when I wanted a break or dabbled in a few other schools but didn't proceed, I forgot to cancel and was still billed, but I feel that's my problem, not Artistworks, as I'm responsible for my own finances and knew the terms and conditions when I joined up.
I always choose PayPal too, as it works well for me because you can initiate any cancellation yourself through the PayPal site and no further charges occur - in this way, the financial side and the artistic side of being an Artistworks member works seamlessly together!
No Customer Service
The artists featured on this website are very knowledgeable, lessons are valuable, but the customer service experience makes this a BAD product to put your name to. I have reached out to customer service a few times, always receiving some sort of "sorry for the inconvenience, nothing we can do" message and having my case marked as resolved.
The first time was for a lesson issue. The videos had been edited together incorrectly and contained information about the wrong subject. I noticed this was first brought to AW's attention 3 years ago. They have done nothing. Offered me no help for how confusing it was, and how much it hindered my progress.
Another time, I had received a Gift Card for the Chuck Loeb school. Well, now the school is only available as a one-month recurring subscription. The Gift Cards can only be used for 3, 6. and 12 month courses, so now it's useless. Customer service once again let me know there's nothing they can do, but also hey! there's a no refund policy! yay.
Zero personal touch at this company, zero concern for the customer. I would recommend doing further research and finding another resource to use.

Couldn’t get artistsworks to stop auto payments on our debt card. We had canceled our subscriptions but that did not seem to matter. Artistworks still collected almost $800. Had to cancel our card to get them to stop billing us. We eventually were refunded.

Content is great, but...
I did subscribe several times, and the course itself was AWESOME, thanks so much for offering those courses. However, I had some problems with my subscriptions. A) PayPal was offered as a method of payment, but whenever I tried, I got an error message from PayPal, saying something like payments to this service couldnt be done. It's not a problem with my PayPal account, I use it all the time for payments and never have issues.
The support team wasnt able to help me, so I had to use a credit card. Thats ok, but if you do offer PayPal (which I prefer over handing over my CC information to every service I sub to), make sure it works for everyone!
Also, they changed their payment plans. It used to be possible to subscribe for only a month, with was great due to my schedule, and also might be nicer for people with less budget for things like that.
Now, the plans start with a 3 month one for 105$, and I really wish they'd still offer a 1 month plan, as a 3 month sub simply doesnt make sense for me.
Therefore, I won't subscribe again, even though the course itself is truly amazing and there is a plethora of great info.
Oh, one more thing: If your subscription runs out, you can no longer access the video replies of your instructor. I am fine with not being able to watch the courses and other students submissions and replies anymore, but blocking access to the responses I got? I don't think that's particularily consumer-friendly, sorry :/
