I went to my regular doctor who was assigned to me because my other one retired. This doctor is not comfortable recommending me for my routine colonoscopy at 58 years old without going through his gastrointestinal team first.
It seems like a lot of useless steps to make extra money. Every other doctor I've ever had has just recommended me for stuff when I'm due
Horrible customer service
Last week I received a bill for my son and called customer service because they hadn't run the bill through his insurance - likely because the bill was for service provided the day after he was born and he hadn't yet been added. I was told their system was down but they'd take my information and call be back by the end of the day. I received no call back; that was a week ago. I've tried calling multiple times in the past week and have been unable to get ahold of anyone and instead have been put incessantly on hold. Today I finally get through and am told again their system is down but that I can call back in 30 minutes. Very good. When I called back, and I explained the issue, I was told that they ran the bill through insurance back in December and were waiting to hear back from insurance but it can take up to 45 days. I questioned why they would have sent me a bill with a statement date in January if they had been waiting since December to hear from insurance. The representative rudely barked 'well bills are automatically generated!' and then hung up. Clearly an absolute scam in hopes that people will just pay the bill and not question it.

We took our son in to get tested for ASD. They had the OT and Speech Therapist in the same room, at the same time, firing off questions to my husband and I, while trying to get our son to perform tasks to get an assessment. The room was stark of toys or things to keep our son's attention or interest, so he just wanted to leave the entire time. We were then taken to a sterile, doctor's room where we were then told by an observer/ doctor to play with our child the way we do at home. Again, there were no toys or anything for my son to play with or interact with. We were then given his "diagnosis" and were told to "Take it with a grain of salt." All in all, we were first told the observation would take 3 hours, and we were only in the office with the OT, Speech Therapist, and actual doctor for a grand total of 80 minutes. You cannot get a proper assessment of ASD in 80 minutes. It's just not done, and we were left with more questions than answers. Not thorough at all and definitely not impressed. If you have a child, you think is on the spectrum, do NOT go to AMITA health; go to an ASD clinic for a REAL assessment of your child.
I ran out of my migraine medication
I ran out of my migraine medication. Didn't know I was due for annual appointment until I called the pharmacy after 3 denials of my refill. Due to moving hour away I made virtual appointment they had over a 2 month wait. Asked if I could get 1 mon refill to hold me over said they call it in. This never happened. I started getting daily headaches with unknown case. Finally had virtual visit, provider sent email with information but it would not go directly to the zoom. I had to use multiple devices to get it to work. Otherwise I would of had to reschedule and I didn't want that to happen because I needed medication. Once I got on call the provider who in the past was great, seemed not to be concerned with my symptoms. Didn't feel I needed additional testing to find if something is going on to cause these almost daily headaches. Said follow up with my PCP. I will do that but because of the way he seemed not to care about my issue I think ill look for a new provider. I'm unhappy that I have to since I normally have had great experience in the past. I'm just really disappointed that he just didn't seem to care.

Watch out for Amita imaging places in PCP offices
I went to see my In network PCP who is great, he asked I get xrays. The imaging dept there is ran by Amita. They took xrays of my ankle and they were in network also. 3 xrays and they want $1100 after discounts! I had to get these to my orthopedic so I asked for a disc, They gave me a disc and there was nothing on it! So my orthopedic took xrays (in network also) and the charge was $54. They are price gouging like crazy. I work in the health insurance industry (and sell medical insurance for a major carrier) and have never seen anything like this. Not to mention I had an MRI done (in network) and it was $420. No way xrays should be 2.5 times the cost of an MRI!

Went to Amita office in Barrington, Illinois for gynecologist visit (abnormal bleeding and annual visit). Receptionist took my insurance and ID and told me I would be seen. I was seen by a nurse, I was asked the screening questions, told to change into a gown, then told the provider would see me shortly.
Provider came into the room and told me my bleeding issue would not be addressed unless I paid a 65 dollar co-pay up front. Huh? Is this provider's job to give compassionate care or is her job to rudely hit people up for co-pays WHILE THEY'RE UNDRESSED? Why not have addressed the billing before or after the visit? She acknowledged that the bleeding was abnormal and I would need an ultrasound scheduled but refused "problem visit" care until I paid the co-pay.
Yes, I did have the co-pay, but I'll take my 65 dollars to another gynecologist. I can't believe the callousness of this "provider".

Horrible Billing Dept Overshadows Good Care
I felt my provider was excellent and appreciated the care I recieved. The Billing department is the worst I have ever seen. I was billed prior to the insurance reimbursement so when I immediately paid the bill, I ended up with a credit balance. Two week after my payment was recieved, Amita sent me a statement that did not include my payment and I nearly paid the balace listed which would have created a bigger credit. Now I'm six weeks from discovering this and still awaiting my refund. Absolutely horrible service in the billing department negates the decent work being done in the office!
ER doc refusal to diagnose a pt properly had a terrible outcome.
we went to the er on 02/10/23 because my daughter experienced pain and weakness in her legs.She could not stand up anymore. The doctor and nurse could not care less.3 hours and all she got was a pain pill prescription. Turned out today she has emergency spine surgery in a real hospital. She has a tumor in her spine. So much suffering could have been avoided if we had not gone see these incompetent people. STAY AWAY. All you will get is careless so called medical professionals and substandard care.

My wife has been in discomfort for over 5 years. The provider with in AMITA health has done nothing to help her with abdominal pain. They collect our money and do nothing to get to the cause of her pain. They use fraudulent billing practices. She was billed for seeing a specialist when she saw a nurse practitioner (not even a doctor). Now after being told that AMITA will fix the billing errors we received a notice from their collection agency. My wife has moved on to a new health organization of which has pinpointed the root cause of her pain an has her on the road to recovery within 2 weeks. AMITA health should be ashamed of themselves. They are not their to help us but rather just take our money.

If there was a way not to put any stars that would be my choice. Not because of the Doctor but because of Dr. Mercado's receptionist/front staff. I only went to see Dr. Mercado a couple of times and the couple of times. I couldn't understand how if you as a receptionist it is your job to make us the patients understand any questions with registration, appts, referrals. I shouldn't feel like I'm bothering you and leave the office confused. I tried calling plenty of times and no answer. While waiting, i overheard I was the not the only one with that issue. While waiting to be seen i overheard how the receptionist answer the patient regarding the phone issue. No need to answer the way she did. I can write her name here but I'm sure it won't be hard to realize who is these 2 employees I'm writing about.
I can go on and on about this but it will take up half of day to continue. and there is no need for me to have to write complaints about 2 employees when it is their job to help me. Please amita lets do better on training I'm sure there are half of us patients who walked into that office have a lot to say but only because some of us cant use a computer we do not speak up.
Horrible Billing Issues
I have been dealing with the billing dept for months on a claim that has been paid. They lie and say they called but rarely return calls. I finally got ahold of someone and she claimed they never received my emails, yet I received confirmation that they were received. She asked that I forward the confirmation and I did. She then asked what email address I sent them to when it was clearly in the chain of emails that I sent to her. I don't think these employees are very bright and they're certainly unmotivated. I never had these problems with Lutheran General Hospital. Pitiful.

I will never use any AMITA health/ Ascension providers ever again. I went on Dec 2021 for an annual exam the dr does her usual stuff and orders labs tests. Then amita send me a bill for $600 for lab fees! What the hell! Who wants to pay that during preventative services!!!!? 12 months later we’re still dealing with the billing department and they sent our bill to collections even though it was still under dispute!

They charged me for services they did not performed on me and they sent me the bill by mail but not the results, still waiting for the results to come maybe next year.

I went to the ER with an ear infection
I went to the ER with an ear infection. I was there for a total of 20 minutes, out of which 15 was spent waiting for someone to see me. The resident doctor there looked in my ear and said it was an ear infection, then called in a doctor, which looked at my ear and said it was an ear infection. They gave me a shot for the pain and one antibiotic pill, and sent me home. Then I get a bill for $2,300 in the mail. I called and asked for an itemized statement and they sent me one in the mail that said "emergency room visit... $2,000" and then the cost of the pill and the shot. They say it is a level 4 emergency visit.... for an ear infection???? And nobody can explain why an ear infection is a level 4. I am so disgusted with this company. Never again will I step into any of their clinics or hospitals. And my doctor works for them. I am changing doctors now.

Recent received a bill from nearly 2 years ago. Just now. Never received it before. I got the runaround trying to inquire. Insanity.
I was also informed that two more claims were sent to collections recently. I never received bills for those claims. I always stay on top of my claims. So this is unacceptable.
Amita office in Lake Zurich is good - it’s the Billing Department that is inefficient, ineffective and unorganized.
