When I first got mine installed I had to change the handset constantly.
Finally I ended up with one which worked flawlessly…. For months, but then it suddenly started malfunctioning.
After I went to change out that handset, even while at the dealership and before leaving the parking lot, the second handset was deemed faulty. I couldn’t get a passed test even to leave the parking lot. The mechanic tried, and it was the same thing.
So I received another handset. Thats #3 in one day.
This one seemed to work fine. So off I went … when suddenly the retest came and it would not allow me to provide a sample. It kept powering off, ignoring my blowing, etc…
This went on for 2 days, so I went back for a fourth decide.
This morning I went out to get a coffee and got stuck in the parking lot at McDonald for 2 1/2 hours.
Finally had to tow my car to the garage where they service these pieces of garbage and they’re closed for the weekend.
So now, because of 4 faulty devices in less than a week, I’m stranded at home without a vehicle….

Safety concerns and repeated failures associated with the ALCOLOCK ignition interlock device (COMPANY: ALCOLOCK, CANADA, ONTARIO) The device presents an unreasonable risk to drivers and the public and fails to operate as advertised or required for safe use.
The ALCOLOCK device requires drivers to provide breath samples while operating a moving vehicle. This design forces the driver to divert visual, cognitive, and physical attention away from the road in order to comply. The device also mandates “rolling retests” while driving, which significantly increase distraction and materially raise the risk of motor vehicle collisions.
Distracted driving is a leading cause of serious injury and death on Ontario roads and is a punishable offence under provincial law. Despite this, the interlock device requires handheld operation, visual monitoring, and controlled breathing while the vehicle is in motion. Functionally, this is equivalent to operating a handheld electronic device while driving, which is otherwise prohibited due to safety risks.
I have experienced a device malfunction on numerous occasions but in particular while driving on a busy highway during severe winter conditions with reduced visibility. The device prompted a rolling retest and repeatedly failed to accept valid breath samples, displaying the error code “INVALID SAMPLE 05.” Despite multiple attempts to comply while maintaining lane position and monitoring traffic, the device continued to malfunction.
The device then activated loud alarms inside and outside the vehicle, creating a severe distraction for both myself and surrounding drivers. I was forced to pull over immediately on the highway shoulder in hazardous conditions while vehicles passed at high speed. To silence the alarms, I shut off the vehicle and attempted to restart after powering down the device, replacing the mouthpiece, and waiting the required time. The device continued to fail.
As a result, I was stranded on the side of the highway in extreme cold temperatures (approximately −30°C), unable to restart my vehicle or access heat. I incurred towing and roadside assistance expenses and was placed in a situation that posed a serious risk to my safety.
This was not an isolated incident. If I recall correctly, I am currently on my fourth or fifth interlock device within a six-month period due to repeated failures. The device has proven unreliable, inconsistent, and unfit for continued use. The installation technician even acknowledged that the device does not function properly in cold temperatures, raising serious concerns about its suitability for Canadian climates.
The interlock device was installed under legal compulsion following a refusal charge. I have incurred hundreds of dollars in mandatory installation, maintenance, and replacement costs. Despite these expenses, the product does not perform as advertised and repeatedly fails under foreseeable and common environmental conditions.
In addition to safety risks, the device’s unreliability has caused measurable financial harm. I pay exactly $74.14 per month for a 12 month period, adding up to a grand total of $889.68 (And this doesn't even include installation) Why am I paying for a device that doesn't work? I have missed essential healthcare appointments due to device failures, resulting in approximately $250 in missed appointment fees. I routinely allow an additional 30–40 minutes to start my vehicle, anticipating the code "INVALID SAMPLE 05" multiple times and delays and failures continue to occur.
The design and operation of this device create foreseeable and preventable dangers. If serious injury or loss of life occurs as a result of these defects, the manufacturer should reasonably anticipate liability. I formally request that this complaint be investigated and that corrective action be taken immediately. Should injury occur to myself or others as a result of this product, I reserve all legal rights and remedies available to me.
This device requires immediate review, redesign, or removal from service. A product mandated for use in the interest of public safety must not itself create an unreasonable risk to drivers or the public.

Device has mind of its own
The device is installed on a brand new vehicle. After installation i have to open my door shut my door push the start button x2 then open shut my door test pass test and have to retest every 7 to 10 minutes. Don't call the hot line absolutely useless

I will be making the state aware of the situation especially sincespecially since i've already informed my hearing officer after getting my driving privileges restored entirely. My 1 year. Of having the device in my vehicle unfortunately turned into 3 Being no fault of my own. And able to provide.
Sobriety reports within a minute of there.Suppose major violation blow. If you're doubting anything I'm telling you feel free.The message me and ask me any questions why you will be taken for a ride with this company.

Very poor service. Don't call after 5:00pm or on weekends/holidays and expect a tech to actually call back. I'm not convinced that they have anyone working in their after hours emergency tech department. This is the 3rd major problem i've had since New Year's Eve. On each occasion I was locked out and they did not call back with a code to resolve the problem, until the next business day. On this occasion, the alarm went off around 9:00 PM on a Friday night, spontaneously. I had had the hand held devise in my home, powered down. I let my dog out and heard the alarm and also the radio! I've no idea why. I had to disconnect the vehicle's battery. This has happened before and the truck has also tried to start itself on one other recent occasion. When ever I have the opportunity to talk to a tech and explain what has happened I get absolutely no explanation why this is happening. I've also had to replace the battery, twice in less than 2 years. I am very frustrated with alcolock. I've now been waiting 4 hours to hear from a tech and have called their laughingly named Emergency Service Number twice. The people at this call centre are great but they can only refer your call to alcolock, who don't give a damn. The people who work their must be trained to be rude and incompetent and they must be told to wait hours to call back. I've also had difficulty getting a code so I can have repairs or service done on my truck. The garage has called during office hours only to not hear back until the next day or too late in the day to complete the work. Alcolock is the worst company I've ever had to deal with and they seem to know that they can do anything, with impunity.

This is the worst company I or anyone I know has used. The emergency hotline is useless if they even answer. They advise I can get their interlock calibrated anywhere in the USA, which is a lie. They don't have places to calibrate in the US, very few, so you're out of luck and locked out. Service recalls are often, an inconvenience. They charge $85.00 to extend the calibration date, but it's not your fault if there is no location to calibrate their junk. emergency helpline is useless and rude customer service.

Locked out for an hour at mechanic shop. Called to see if there was anything they could do, there wasn’t apparently. The woman on the phone started talking over me and told me it was doing what it was designed to do so I asked if I could file a complaint/talk to someone else and she said I could call back or send an email. So I called back to talk to someone else who seemed to already be aware of why I was calling because he hung up on me. Both customer service members seemed to agitate easily instead of trying to stay calm and helpful. I myself was already stressed before the call due to being locked out and instead of trying to give me hints to help my situation they just said there was nothing they could do.

Been to the office in Elizabeth City with my Son for last 9 months. Never have I seen the compassionate and caring customer service provided by Mr. Chris Edwards Every single time we visit it’s a positive experience and even uplifting! He is a true inspiration for those in this difficult situation. Beside’s his expertise of the product and installation- he always is polite and friendly and provides a promising word to his customers.
You just don’t see this kind of service anymore and I’m fortunate ( and others as well!) to have Chris giving it- every single visit.

At least their devises work
At least their devises work. The customer service is not the best but it’s better than other interlock companies such as LifeSafer. I’m going back to Alcolock. All of these devises have their quirks but I never had issues with Alcolock’s devise accepting a breath. Using the Lifesafer devise has been a nightmare. I live in a rural state and thank Alcolock for never leaving me stranded. I can’t say the same for Lifesafer.

TERRIBLE COMPANY
First problem: This is the worst company I have EVER dealt with. This whole thing is a scam! They know you have no choice when court ordered to have an interlock system so they don't see any reason to be the least bit nice! No matter who answers the calls they are rude and awful people! I think the company must train them to be as rude as they can! Second Problem: the interlock system is garbage! It NEVER works! We can't even use our car to drive because it literally never works. They just want to collect money every time it needs a code to reset it! We've had mulitiple people blow in it and it still won't work. We had the handset changed out, STILL doesn't work. Now another connections error and we have to disconnect it ourselves and take it in for replacement AGAIN then go back and get callibration all in one day! The government should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of people this way to just make money! This system isn't designed to help people! It's more unsafe than driving drunk because it makes you blow in it after starting within 5 mins while you're trying to drive! SO UNSAFE! We've opted to Uber until this nightmare is over! SUCH A SCAM! Don't use this company! However I'm sure they are all like this just to make a profit! Go to hell ALCOLOCK! YOU SUCK!

Horrible service. they have been saying they will send report to secretary of state and nothing. Customer service is incompetent and rude. Both Spanish and English customer service.

For the love of God use any other service but alcolock. I understand Ive made a mistake, but it truly feels like this company is making its sole duty to make you feel like an absolute criminal and that it is their personal responsoblity to punish you further. I pay a lot of money for a device that is very faulty (I am on my 3rd device in as many months) and if there is any issues its simply "well thats just the way it is" when you're;re unable to use your vehicle because of the device/company. Regardless of what appointments may have had to be missed or canceled. I called a week ago for an issue. I left 4 messages, each day. I called and stayed on hold for 1 hour each day (they only let you stay on hold for 30 minutes before it automatically hangs up, so I would call twice). I cant get a hold of anyone. The website is very faulty and I cant add money to my account. I can't get the service techs to reset my device if there is no way to add money to my account. This is not the first time Ive had a major issue. Run From This Company. It's like paying hundreds of dollars to be stressed out and then...perhaps being able to drive?
I will say however, when you actually DO speak with someone, the 1-2 staff members that they have on hand are all very friendly and helpful. The wonderful and kind people that work for alcolock are the only good part about this service.
So to summarize:
0 Stars for the device and everything that entails.
5 stars all around to anyone I had spoken to. Your staff is very gracious and courteous, because I suspect they know how horrendous the service provided is and they genuinely feel bad for you.

If I can give this company a rating it would be a 0. Right from the beginning of installation, I probably should have stayed away because my experience with this company was so awful. They advertise that installation takes about 2-4 hours....nope the technician could not figure out how to even install it to my vehicle which took about another day for install to be completed (I had to miss a day of work because I did not have any means of transportation). AND once they were "done" they left my car in the parking lot not giving me any sort of tutorial when I arrived to pick it up. I had to call the company and a technician on the phone had to explain it to me which took a while for me to even get the hang of due to my asthma. I wasn't having issues until after my first calibration when the device was not accepting my blow and missed retests when it wasn't even my fault. The amount of times I had to call Alcolock and speak with someone who would not even listen nor help me with this device was ridiculous. They basically kept saying it was my fault and that I was too stressed and I needed to "calm down". Worse customer service I ever received and I can go on and on about my experiences especially towards the end when I decided to switch vendors for my own sake. They charged me $300 for removal and other fees that they never told me if I "break" contract but apparently I "signed" it when I signed with this company. My advice: stay away and choose other vendors.
