Afrori has such an interesting range of beautiful books from Black authors. This is the beauty of independent bookshops - you can see that time and care has gone in to the selection. For me the cookbooks are the star but there's a ton of fiction from well known and less well known names. Highly recommend. Wish I lived nearby so I could browse in person.

Afrori are doing incredible work - literally changing the British publishing landscape (which really needs it when it comes to diversity of voices), brilliant anti-racism workshops, working with schools, universities and businesses, offering book supper clubs, men's groups, singing groups, author events, starting a book festival for Brighton (wild that we didn't have one til they did this!!), and all this while running a beautiful independent bookshop and cafe - no mean feat!!

However despite all their hard work they really need help - book sales have been low for a while, and I'd really urge anyone who sees their value to try and remember to buy from them whenever possible, whether in person or online, and maybe consider subscribing to their monthly book scheme. or buying gift cards from them (which you can find on their website by searching the word 'gift') as lovely presents!

Afrori is a very special place. A place of love, dedication, connectedness and kindness - a rare thing in our communities these days. As a bookshop it provides a much needed space to amplify and celebrate Global Majority literary talent with a fabulous selection. However, it is so much more than a bookshop. Afrori also provides a space for writer’s talks, hair workshops, family events, Karaoke nights and even its own choir! You have to come down to experience it! We see you and appreciate you, Afrori 💥
