Dissapointed
We have been to the resort 8 times will not rush to go back very disappointing. Staff as good as always. But the changes have let them down, New restaurant really noisy food not as good as it has been one day of the stay it was awful ! However breakfast choice is good. Hydro needs to be monitored properly, now you have to pay no lockers available and over crowding. People staying longer than their hour. Needs a coloured wrist band idea same as with most swimming pools. Snooker cues now plastic carbon fibre and inferior tips. You are not told about the booking and work changes going on until after payment.

Having frequently used this hotel throughout the year, we called in on Boxing day around 7.30pm..
I was told I couldn't come in because I wasn't a resident!!
So from now on I will be not be using this hotel, if they wish to pick and choose when they want my money, I will be spending my money elsewhere in the future.
Completely disappointed
Completely disappointed. We ended up changing 3 rooms. The first one was completely dirty and one of the devices for ordering stuff was not working. The second one had an electrical fault which kept blowing the fuse. We ended up in a third equally dirty with the first one which was completely different from what they advertise online. It did remind me actually of a premier in room. Completely waste of money. It was a treat for my birthday but they ended up ruining the day. The Thornbury Castle offers a much better experience and is spotless with excellent customer service.
Shockint ..Dirty mattress
.Dirty mattress, beds riddled with bed bugs and saw cockroaches in the room.!! Absolutely shocking !! Avoid
Not the best Sunday lunch
4 of us ordered Sunday lunch
1 ordered large 1 regular
1 small
1 nut roast
Nut roast not good has rice in to pack it out but not a nice nut roast
Lunches.
Plenty of meat , cabbage 1/2 long carrot mash carrot giant Yorkshire pudding few small roast potatoes
The smallest tablespoon of mash potato the cheapest thing on the plate🤷♀️ was shocking on all servings we got. We heard a table complain to manager he didn’t do anything just said that’s the portion so we didn’t say anything
To top it off all means was tepid Luke warm
We mentioned to waitress but she just said sorry about that
We had my sons wedding in the old manor…
We had my sons wedding in the old manor in Leven fife on the 12th of October this year and have never experienced such awful food and attitude from manager on shift the place was freezing cold and when asked if we could get some heating on he replied it is in and as for the wedding meal well the choice was sirloin steak chicken or sea bass 10 of the guest couldn’t eat the steak one it was not sirloin it was full of fat at raw and cold potatoes were full of lumps of hard potato chicken was that dry we couldn’t cut it the fish wasn’t sea bass it was more like cod under cooked a few people who did manage to eat what they got became unwell by 10pm same night when asked the manager on shift what he was going to do about all this food no one could eat he said there was nothing wrong with it and offered to heat it up I think for £85 a head we should at least get some kind of refund
The bride and groom were so busy with there guests they didn’t eat there meal but they knew they would get something from the buffet later they did announce the buffet was going out by the time most of us got through to it they had taken it all away saying food safety it could only stay out for 90 minutes so bride and groom had nothing all day when we asked if they could get something to eat they were told no chef is away it that price again I am looking for at least 10 meals to be refunded absolutely ridiculous the way we have been treated the whole day cost £15.000 I would not recommend this place to anyone
Great Holiday for all ages
Had a fabulous time celebrating a 60th birthday - a great family occasion - food was lovely- we were busy with activities all day - a party of 10 from aged 1 to 65 all had a fantastic time
A special mention to Amy in the craft shop who mended my glasses for me!
Must remember to take a spare pair in future as I can’t see without them!
This hotel just keeps improving in my opinion and I can’t wait for another opportunity to return !
Fabulous Experience at Manor House Hotel in West Auckland
Manor House Hotel in West Auckland, Durham. Started with delicious lunch then went into spa. All the staff were excellent throughout the day in restaurant & spa. Quite honestly the best treatments I’ve ever had from a therapist called Grace. Just a lovely experience from start to finish I would recommend going here for a spa day or break. We’ll definitely be back soon.
Customer service at the front end was…
Customer service at the front end was impeccable, Yasmin and Chloe were friendly and accommodating. I would've gave 4.5 stars if allowed due to the waitress as she was abrupt and seemed to genuinely not care about her clients. However the saving grace was Yasmin, who at the bar generated real and provocative conversation redeeming the initial downfall of this hotel. I feel sorry for any customer who is not graced by Yasmin's genuine persona and pretty face. Well done Yas you saved the day.
Bad attitude spoils a good product
I attended a three day Pickleball course at the Manor that was excellent. The quality of accommodation and food has been well covered in other reviews - cheap, cheerful, clean, basic and in need of a refurb - but you get what you pay for and the value is good.
What lets it down is the bad attitude of the reception staff and management - offhand, "too much trouble", discourteous, surly and unwelcoming and unhelpful. As an example we arrived at 2.45pm on day 1, were told the room was avaialble to us at 3pm, were given the key but then told if we went into the room before 3pm we would be "fined".
THe course lasted till Thusday lunchtime but the accommodation package that goes with the course is for 4 nights (includes Thursday night). Most participants abandoned the fourth night but had to pay for it. It leaves a very bad taste of being ripped off, and not being valued as clients; on complaint the Manor have now extended the course for the afternoon by adding some use of the Pickleball court and spa till 5pm - but most people will go home after that . The 4th night is pointless except as a revenue earner (or rip off to use another expression). Ive taken this up with the management but deaf ears!

It's a bit tired and dated but the prices reflect this. However, the service is great, the food was excellent despite being really busy, and as a coeliac I had loads of choices as I'd advised them in advance and on arrival they had the chef meet up with me
So many activities on offer, yes you pay for the things you make, it's not that expensive, loads of sporting choices and a fantastic spa - but make sure you book early for that (preferably before you arrive).
Our group had an enjoyable time. If you're looking for a five star establishment it's not for you, it's exactly what it says it is and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
This place is just perfect
This place is just perfect! Not posh but very clean and comfortable and friendly, great food and masses of it, lovely surroundings, and now you can even come by train!
As for the sport and leisure facilities - they have everything. And the spa is lush.
Great for young and old alike. I hope it never changes.

Myself and my sister visited the Manor House spa today for a treatment. I can't find words to describe the whole experience from we came in it we experienced a warm and inviting welcome from the young man on the desk. I had the most brilliant massage from Mayo she is a talented young lady with magic hands. Thank you for a fantastic day.
Not long till my next break!
Am always looking forward to the next break there. The hospitality, can not be faulted, they all go out of their way to make your stay one that you'll embrace, and want more of.
If it wasn't for the tennis, would I go? Doubt it. The Manor House Hotel have an excellent on site tennis coach, Roger. Have not come across one so knowlegable, and enthusiastic before. A delight.
Food is plentiful, and delightful, never go hungry, and there's always more, should you want it.
The accomodation? Must admit for the first day or two, it is like a maze trying to find your way back to the sanctury of your room.
The hotel graciously meet you at the local station Okehampton, and drop you off at the end of your stay. Ensure that you book in advance, through the hotel reception.
“As a gesture of goodwill” I'm hopefully helping someone not make the same mistake we did
If I could give it 0 stars I would but unfortunately Trust pilot doesn’t allow zero stars !!
Where do I start ? I booked this 5 night trip away in January to go in March as they were offering a 20% discount on their stays if booked early. I was really looking forward to a well needed break and the fact that they offered crafting activities made it all the more appealing.
Almost a hundred mile one way drive we get there to a somewhat tired looking bedroom decor wise but thought ok it’s only a room , (the bathroom was even more interesting with its plastic panelling on the walls)
We went to have a look around after unpacking , please DO NOT believe the brochure pictures !! This place looks like it may have been modern circa the early 1980’s !! EVERYTHING is tired, worn and tatty looking, the stage area has so many chips in the woodwork it’s a wonder that the Artistes Dont refuse to perform . The dining room can only be described as a school canteen, where it’s just a scrum to help one’s self …not that it was worth helping yourself to unless you happen to like reheated food that is served cold with greasy roast potatoes ( again cold) and what was I believe meant to be mashed carrot that was so watery it was nearly liquid …the only other vegetable on offer was very discoloured cauliflower again all cold and this was only half way through their dinner serving times. I asked for some gluten free bread, the lady was kind enough to bring me some, unfortunately I didn’t want to risk the dental bill by trying to eat it!! The prices for their drinks was unbelievable, the cheapest …and I mean the cheapest, bottle of red wine was £15.95 , which you expect to pay in a half decent restaurant if you have a meal to enjoy with it , but there ?? The vending machines were £3 for a bottle of coke or similar , I don’t know how they expect families with children to afford this.
So we went to look at what the crafts on offer were, all I can say is very expensive !! The cheapest one we found …and you have to look at the posters carefully to find the prices , was £8.50 per person …and obviously that is NOT taught on a one to one, most of the ones on offer were resin based , these were much dearer to partake in ( have you priced a pot of resin and activator to see just how little you use !)
We decided to have a look at the indoor facilities we spotted a pool table, That was broken !!
I couldn’t use the swimming pool as they stated no lone swimming ! , not much good when your partner doesn’t swim ….they don’t have a life guard.
We eventually went back to our room feeling very very disheartened and as I sat on my bed I moved my pillows to discover that the sheets were stained so that just finished us off.
We packed our belongings back up and within 4 hours were checking back out !! I went to reception with my key and said “ I’m sorry it’s not for us “ to be met with “ well madam it is a 3 star hotel” I must admit the attitude of the receptionist summed it totally up!! They couldn’t care less!! When I phoned the customer relations manager the next day as obviously she wasn’t going to phone me she was so argumentative and dismissive she actually slammed the phone down on me!! It wasn’t until I emailed her the photograph of said stained sheets and quoted my legal rights as a consumer did I finally get a reply saying that “as a gesture of goodwill they will refund 4 nights of my 5 night stay” but up until then I wasn’t even going to get anything back!!
All I can say is if you want to explore beautiful Devon, stay in a travelodge or somewhere because that would be far more welcoming, cleaner, and more respectful that this dump!!
We had a great time
We had a great time, the craft activities were fantastic. I highly recommend the enamelling and glass fusion. Go twice if you can! Rooms were clean, food was tasty - and plenty of it!
You get what they advertise
You get what they advertise. There are some older parts of the place but all in all- it’s good.
Had to cancel my holiday due to an emergency accident
Had to cancel my holiday due to an emergency accident, so could not cancel the holiday within the 48 hour notice as per their policy. Rang customer services today the 13th of March 2020 to see if I could recoup any of my booking costs as a gesture of good will and was told no they couldn't do anything. I had not used any rooms, had any of their food or used any of their facilities, but they still took my £300.
I think as a caring propieter, as their was no fault on my part due to the accident that the company could have helped in some way as being a Pensioner this was a lot of money to me.
WONT BOOK TO GO HERE AGAIN 'NOT' good customer service.
Outstanding hotel
Outstanding hotel.
Accommodation and food wonderful and, above all, fabulous staff who could not do enough to make our special event go so smoothly.
Made for a truly memorable big birthday celebration.
Thank you all, I shall treasure the memories as do all my guests.
